*POP!* to black. Goodbye plasma :(

Well this sucks. I was just watching some Netflix and then outta no where a very loud and unexpected Pop!/Bang! and my Plasma instantly went dark . Had zero intention of replacing his guy as the picture is perfectly good on it(no burn in and the brightness creep really hasn't gone up much). Plus although I only use it a couple times a year, the 3D was good. (Spider-Man:Into the Spider-Verse is amazeballs in 3D and Jurassic Park is just a little more fun).

Gonna try to get it repaired. As apparently this is a known Plasma issue. But if I can't get it repaired... I'm guessing the current goat is the C1 eh? With Sony being a close alternative? Or should I just wait it out for QD-OLED? Thoughts?

I do have an old 720p Sony 3-LCD projector I could lean on for now. 3000 lumen (bright enough with our dark curtians closed), plenty of lamp life and low wear as it's never been used much. But that would be a stand-in vs a replacement.

Those QD-OLED panels look amazing. If I didn't just buy a 48" LG C1 for my office gaming space, I'd get one of those newer QD-OLEDs instead. Brighter brights, but also I think that tech is easier on the burn-in concerns. So I think those are legitimately the way to go now.

But some of that might depend on if you can wait the weeks/months for those to make it to the market. I don't think the bigger TVs are out yet though I've seen some monitors starting to show up. If you're not up for a bit of a wait, yes the LG C1 is the current OLED picture quality GOAT.

A80J and C1 are available for the same price right now for a 65"... leaning toward the C1 as it has the better VRR n' Freesync support(A80J can't use VRR and DolbyVision for instance) and faster response times... But... honestly it's not being hooked up to a PC and if I get a current gen console it'll be a PS5. Aaaaahhhh! decisions!

My 2012 Panasonic 65" Plasma still going strong. When it dies I want an 85" to replace it. I'm not picky these days as long as the picture is good enough.

Yeah I was looking at the 80" LED monsters. Amazingly huge displays and relatively affordable. But I like my inky blacks and I watch movies in the dark. So the deeper the display can go, the better.

C1 wins. Going to go get one tomorrow.

Guessing that the power supply blew in the plasma. Sounds like a late production Panasonic. Which model?

OLED is definitely where it's at for black levels/contrast ratio. My 42" UT50 seems to have somewhat raised blacks and it's always annoyed me.

Id wait for QD OLED. Grab a cheap 4k led one in the meantime. Nothing easier than to sell a tv.

OLED has finally come down to a semi-reasonable price and is a proven technology. QD-OLED is likely to cost significantly more and I'm not sure I'd want to be an early adopter... maybe in a year or two. Further, for dark room viewing, the luminosity advantage of QD is minimal.

And brighter... Isn't going to thrill me in anyway. Hell the C1 will likely blow the plasma away.

No need to buy a cheap fill in. Little 720p projector is filling the void for free.

Normally Id say ya its new tech and wait a couple years but both QD and OLED are well established. If price was right Id look at an 75" 8k of that in the next year or so. Merging them to get a bit brighter panel didnt require that much innovation.

Id say wait if you were to get mini led tho. Im not convinced that tech is reliable. All too easy for some leds to fail and its very noticeable when they do. Recently a bud had some leds fail on his higher end (m or p model I forget) vizio tv and he got a refund and went for a Sony.

Had a Panny plasma for 8 years it was great for its time. I had waited for that tech to mature as well as it had issues when it was new.

Yikes, hopefully it's an easy repair. Sounds like just a certain part blew and needs to be replaced.

I'd cry if my plasma died. I have a Panasonic from 2009 and it still works and looks great. I think the black levels dulled a bit over the years but not too bad. It's not my main TV though, have it in the basement room and only gets used maybe couple hours a week so I'm hoping it should last with the minimal use.
