    MicroLED TVs

Yeah, saw this. Honestly, I've also become a little sceptical of the perks of "perfect" blacks anyway. Calibration counts for far, far more from what I have experienced. i.e. for film, very few things require perfect darkness. Most good TVs can reproduce everything else.

There are obvious weak scenarios like displaying distant stars in space, but that is the exception rather than the rule to me.

I'm watching the TCL 6 series. I don't need "perfect" blacks, but I do need better than what I have, and at an affordable price. The only thing lacking (thanks Riptide for pointing it out) is HDMI 2.1. Other than that it looks to be a solid buy in the MicroLED field.

Contrast ratio is arguably the fundamental basis for good picture quality. OLED is currently the best due to the ability to produce absolute black; this is best appreciated in a dark-ish room. People who watch in rooms with lots of window may be better served by bright LED/LCDs. However, OLEDs also have wide viewing angles, which means there's less need to sit in the "sweet spot" to get a decent picture. I've been waiting for OLED (or its replacement technology) to come down a bit more before I upgrade from my 1080p Panasonic plasma. Those perfect blacks are truly breathtaking when watching dark content like outer space scenes...

Baby steps for me, hence the miniLED TCL I linked. It's affordable and is being compared to much pricier OLEDs as far as IQ/true blacks etc are concerned.

It lacks 2.1, but I don't need it yet anyway.

IF I buy it I'll post impressions. The only thing I'm concerned about is TCL's panel lottery. From what I've read, odds for the consumer aren't quite as high as pricier sets, but that when you do score a good panel, it's pretty amazing.

I was in the same position. Had my 55" Panasonic Plasma for years. Then about a month ago my son threw the remote and destroyed the screen

I got an amazing TCL tv before they were a serious contender. It’s still running solid as our bedroom screen.

we got the Samsung QLED last year or so.
Really like it. No burn in issues like OLED, almost as good of a picture IMHO.

IMO, nothing else affordable and currently available touches OLED. LCD may be better for people who have bright rooms, but for dark/low-light viewing OLED's perfect blacks just make everything pop, and the viewing angles are much wider. Burn-in is a risk, but mostly for people who continuously watch the same channel with a logo, or play a single game with static elements. Vary the content and it becomes a non-issue.

Looks like Hisense launched one in China, but it's probably going to cost quite a bit if it makes it to NA.

I'm still waiting for the vidrian 8K tcl mini-led set that hasn't been released yet. If it is good, then the OLED goes back to the bedroom and I'll be using the TCL for living room HTPC and gaming duty.

It's been a while and TCL has been pretty much quiet about it. No release date, no news, no nothing for months. Not sure what/when to expect anything now.

Mini is happening and will be needed to get that 1000 nits of hdr. But micro nah... just wont be mass produced. Itll be pricey uber high end for a short while at best.

Don't see this being entirely flagship quality? Otherwise wouldn't it conflict with their OLED lineup?
