    Atmos - Windows/PC Gaming

Anyone here using Atmos through a home theater system with their PC for Windows use and gaming?

I think it was working (I didn't have to do anything special) in Far Cry 5, but I've uninstalled it already and can't verify. I may install again to check. For Resident Evil 2, my receiver never shows that Atmos is working.

I downloaded the Atmos app for windows and ran the Home Theater setup option, and from that point on it worked every time I loaded up the game. However, after a couple days my PC would boot with no audio at all. The only way to recover was to run the Atmos app setup again. I eventually got disgusted with it and uninstalled the app. The audio didn't work the first time after rebooting, but some troubleshooting led me to an error where it had the wrong sound function chosen for my device (parahprasing from bad memory). Anyway, it's worked perfectly fine since then.

So, my question. Is anybody using Atmos for PC gaming and what did you do to get it to work properly? The Windows app is apparently garbage, and some searching showed a lot of users with the same problem I had.

      They sound amazing.

There are a decent amount of PC games that support it now, and XBox One X also has support for it.

Resident Evil 2 is exceptionally good. You can hear scrapes, bumps, and shuffles all around you and above you. It's especially nerve racking when you hear Mr X thumping on your ceiling as he wanders the rooms in the floor directly over you.

If you connect an NVIDIA graphics card to a A/V receiver or processor through HDMI, can you get Atmos? I am asking because, if I am not mistaken, NVIDIA graphics cards can output audio as well.

Yeah, the audio is pass-through in the card through the HDMI cable.

However, it's one aspect of it I don't understand. If it's straight pass-through, why is atmos an issue? You still need to select stereo, 5.1, 7.1, and atmos through the sound properties on the PC...so I guess it's still choosing what audio signal to send out to the receiver?

I don't use my PC for movies, ever.

OK, I just wasn't sure what you meant since it's the first time I've heard of that software. I use my TV app for Netflix/Prime and my 4k player for everything else.

Quick question concerning Dolby Atmos for headphones.

Does this work if I'm sending it through an external DAC?

If I enable Dolby Atmos for headphones in Sound Control for the Schiit Modi, does that correctly pass through the Modi?

                        Hope that makes sense.

What would be the point of "Atmos" below 7.1 on headphones 2.0? O_o
“Are you at all concerned, as Trump said, that we cannot let the cure be worse than the problem itself?” Haines asked.

Biden noted in his reply that the COVID-19 cure “will make the problem worse, no matter what.”

It does a virtual multi-channel surround thing, only with more channels I think if available??? So it's like Creative Labs CMSS-3D, Windows Sonic for Headphones or as the feature was originally called by Dolby them selves, Dolby Headphone.

Can be pretty handy when a game doesn't have good 3D positional audio.

My laptop came with Atmos for it's speakers and it actually takes definition away from the sounds in a lot of cases. I had to really fiddle with the manual settings for it to sound decent.
