Odd, at least they are working on a fix though. Might have been smart for the studio and Sony or some thing to include an update on the movie disc for players.

However at least an update is in the works. As for how they will get the update, dl link with a file you burn to disc? free disc mailed to you. Who knows.

Well if you do some reading you will notice that these problems exists within both camps. Players will get firmware updated. It sucks to be an early adaptor.

And thats why the blu-ray sucks ass and hd-dvd is 10 times better

HD-DVD has STANDARDS blu-ray has almost none just throw in whatever you like and it maybe will function on 10% of the players, thats blu-ray for you

^^Please go read to AVS forums etc. there are a lot of people reporting sound issues, stuttering picture etc. on HD-DVD side. As I said it sucks to be an early adaptor, but all is fine as long as the issues gets fixed by a firmware update.

Those owners of the units that don't play this film aren't missing much.

This is really a standards issue though. If Sony had layed out specific hardware and software bottom lines these things wouldn't be happening.

This particular type of problem is not seen on the HD-DVD side because Toshiba and partners set minimum specs that EVERYONE had to follow from the beginning. There have been manufacturing issues with some HD-DVD media but that isn't because some players are compatible with iHD and some aren't. Which is the case here.

This movie does something new and beacuse the blu-ray hasnt set a standard to what should be included they dont have anything to follow.

The disc utilizes BD-Java technology for picture-in-picture video commentary, which is not supported by the standalone Blu-ray players.

Um actually BD-J is apart of the set Blu-Ray spec standard. However the blu-ray standard does not REQUIRE a player to implement BD-J(or features of it). Its an optional part of the standard. Kinda like how DX(well till DX10 anyway) has always had optional features that are not needed to be certified DX*insert number*. They are part of the spec but optional. First gen kinks.

I called is part of the standards in the spec. But yes I fully agree that it should have been mandatory. And I don't think its ok, but this is why its generally smart to avoid first gen equipment.

For the UMPTEENTH time that's a DISC issue, NOT a player issue. Problems with The Descent have to do with a number of BD players NOT SUPPORTING THE BD-J FEATURES THAT THE DISC USES which again comes down to lack of enforcement for certain standards.

It's utterly amazing that you are either too thick-headed to see the difference or you do this **** on purpose... selectively picking and choosing little morsels to try and beef your "arguments".

then why does it function on the ps3? did sony forsee that it will have that exact authoring problem?

they saw that it would bring bad pr and instead of saying their players and the blu-ray standards are crap they blame it on the movie...

The players didnt support the feature and thats why it happened.

It was fixed so what is the problem and just how do you know that it wasn't a bug? It doesn't say that the compatibility issues weren't because of bug. How is this any different than the audio-sync problems on HD-DVD players? Someone ****ed up somewhere it got fixed. Seems to be a big deal because it happened to BD I'll laugh when first HD-DVD player has problems with HDi I bet that isn't considered to be problem with the spec...
