Looking to buy an LCD Panel...

I'll have about $1200 to spend on a HDTV and I was going to get the Westinghouse 37w3, but after reading the thread on it at AVS forums, I've decided not to. Basically, it has ghosting issues converting 1080i HDTV content to its native 1080p from digital tv providers. Seems a little ridiculous for a monitor being sold as a HDTV to have this problem.

Anyway, can anyone recommend a comparable TV with similiar features and IQ as the Westinghouse, but without the ghosting problem? Maybe they'll update the firmware and fix the issue, but after reading most of that long ass thread at avsforums, I think it's a hardware problem or else they would have fixed it already.

Also, I read that Westinghouse is comming out with some new Panels this year and maybe I should wait for those or new panels from other manufacturers.

Heh, or maybe it's time to upgrade to core 2 duo. Whatever I do my gf won't like me spending all this money on my man toys. She'll probably like the new TV more than a new computer though.

Sceptre makes 37" and 42" models that use the same panels as the westys do, but different with everything else. You could try one of those out, the new Sceptre Naga 42" is super slick, its very thin since it has a separate media box.

Thanks for the suggestions guys and anymore would be helpful. I'll be using the display as a computer monitor and I might bite the bullet and get a Westinghouse 37w3 since it's 1080p resolution. I was thinking I can run my local HDTV broadcast through my pc dvi port and it shouldn't ghost.

My parents just bought the Sharp AQUOS LC32D41U tv and I have to say the picture quality is extremely good. Its not 1080p but it displays 1080i surprisingly good for an LCD screen.

I have the Westinghouse LTV-32W6 and its fairly good but after looking at my parents tv I am very jealous. I think the biggest difference is the Sharp tv has a 6ms refresh rate while mine is 8ms. Its amazing how much of a difference it makes. Keep that in mind when looking around. 8ms is tolerable but try to find a tv that has a faster refresh rate if you can. It will make a huge difference when playing games.

The best LCD I've ever seen is the old hydis 20 ms panels. Good blacks, good colors, 20 ms, they were PC monitors, yes I've got one.

My dad just got the Westy 37W3 this week. I was impressed when I saw it last night. I saw no evidence of ghosting last night. We checked out every HD channel he has, around 14 or so. I wanted to see how the TV handled channels broadcast in 1080i versus 720p. I couldn't see a difference on the Westy. I'm willing to bet that the actual cable provider has more of an impact on ghosting than the set itself in this case.

A quote from that AVS thead about the 37W3:

"Since those who have tried 1080i from HD-DVD and Blu-Ray players report excellent images, it would seem the problem is with the cable signal quality, not the display."

I have also seen ghosting with my Comcast box outputting 1080i but its intermittent. So I just leave it at 720p and its completely gone. I have not seen any ghosting in games, movies, DVDs, or HD/SD videos from my HTPC and Ive had the TV for almost 4 months.

Well, I found this deal on Buy.com. It's a Samsung LN-S4095D for $1,749.99 with free shipping and another $15 off for new customers. I'm thinking I should hold out a few months and see what the future has to offer.

okay I just can't allow this. When I worked at the best buy store in Bend, OR I saw a ton of those Westinghouses come back. A buddy of mine bought one and it took a **** on him on day 28. If you want a good TV/PC monitor get an LG. There's one set up at the Boise BBY and it looks ****ing gorgeous. Better than my Tosh by a longshot since it allows widescreen resolutions. Lemme see if I can get the model for you and post it up tomorrow. I'm pretty sure it's a 32 but it might be a 26.

Hmmm, the more I think about it the more I'm beginning to look at these 32" panels. There are so many to choose from and come with a tuner for under a grand. I'll save money towards my new pc too. Damn, so many options to think about.

                          P.S. thanks for the link^

i have the sceptre 37" model, it supports HDCP aswell.

It doesn't seem to like 1080p though the component, but I use DVI.

My Westy has 0 issues. I've had it since October. BTW, I don't know what you guys are doing to make the floor model Westys IQ look like **** (maybe stop using those piece of **** Sylvania STB's? I dont know) but it doesnt come close to representing the IQ that Westy owners are getting at home. Just read about it on AVS. The IQ I'm getting is ****ing ****ing gorgeous.

White dots in a stair pattern across the screen. It got classified as 'snow' when we returned it.

Plug it into a PC then come talk to me. All floor models look like ass compared to how they do at home. My Tosh looks far better as a TV than it does a monitor I think it's due to the limits of the TV since it won't let me do anything aside 8x6, 10x7 and 12x10. Lemme see...we're gonna use 3:4 on a 16:9 screen. Sigh.
