Beautiful.
Any chance of getting these in say, maybe a 2560x1440 resolution?Originally posted by JohnEJohnIt's at least worth a try man, I initially thought wtf to trying it a few years ago and once it entered my mouth it was honestly one of the best things I had ever tasted.

Thanks guys! Here's the Witch Head nebula (IC 2118) around Rigel in Orion. It's a pretty dim reflection nebula, so bluish like a cloud rather than red like the emission nebula I shot, which are stimulated to emit wavelengths from the hydrogen bands:
Still haven't got the astrograph set up (delayed) so these past three were all taken at 200 mm. I've been enjoying the crisp, clear, no moon nights while I took off the week though!
wabbit, I'll work on the wallpapers, but I've got to leave now so sometime soon. The heart of the wise inclines to the right, but the heart of the fool to the left. - Ecclesiastes 10:2

Just M42, a nice bright nebula, but now I don't like my past pictures with how much sharper this is.

Close to picking up either a tokina 14-20 f2 or tokina 11-20 f2.8 and maybe one of those inexpensive tripod mount skytrackers for some nightscapes. More than likely it will be the 11-20 because 14 just isn't that wide on a crop sensor but f2 and the sharpness reported by the 14-20 is so nice.Justin

Oh now you're in for it! So like a Sky Watcher Star Adventurer or something? If you do the winter I suggest Orion, summer Sagittarius regions. Which that you should be able to go to 200 mm, do some good nebula.
Got another shot last night...the Rosette Nebula.
NGC 2237 with the associated cluster NGC 2244. About 5000 light years away in Monocerus, 50 light years in diameter. Mainly HII region. The heart of the wise inclines to the right, but the heart of the fool to the left. - Ecclesiastes 10:2

Our moon, of course. Although it appears false color, that's actually truly what the coloring is, I just turned up the saturation. Even when I started adjusting the gamma curve down before saturating the colors started appearing. Bluer areas are rich in titanium, reddish-brown iron.
The way I was able to get this is taking the shots through my 6-inch Newtonian, but using the Canon 70D in 5x video mode (needed to zoom in for the full resolution of the sensor) through BackyardEOS into an AVI. I took 3000 frames in a 3x2 mosaic pattern, then used a program called Autostakkert to find the 10% best frames and stack them with 3x drizzle (this samples the space by 3 times and uses the shift of the image pixels to basically oversample.) Then I used Photomerge in Photoshop to merge the 3x2 mosaic, corrected color and shifted the gamma curve. I took that file into a program called Astra Image Plus and performed deconvolution for the atmosphere, wavelet contrast and sharpening. Then I put that into Pixinsight for final processing to pump up the saturation and try to preserve highlights, whatever.
The reason for video is that this depends on lucky imaging through distortions in the atmosphere so you need to get thousands to get the best frames quickly. This guy explains it better, but he doesn't like DSLRs. I just don't have a true astrophotographical camera though. http://bartoszwojczynski.com/article-lunar-faqLast edited by RFtinkerer; Feb 12, 2017, 02:37 PM.The heart of the wise inclines to the right, but the heart of the fool to the left. - Ecclesiastes 10:2

...Acquisition/processing details?
My workflow basically is.......
1.
Take 500 frames of R
Take 500 frames of G
Take 500 frames of B
I don't do a Luminance usually. Well I do usually take some Lum shots, but never seem to use them in the end.
2.
I then run each set through PIPP and let it select the best 200 frames, saving them as a .ser file (originally saved as .avi).
3.
Then, I align and stack each set in Registax 6. Saving each as a .tiff file.
4.
Fire up Registax 6 again, align and stack the R, the G, and the B you just saved in .tiff format together. Saving the final image as a .tiff
5.
Then I use a program called WinJupos to de-rotate the .tiff using the time I took the sets of R, G, B.
Save the output to .tiff again
6.
Fire up Registax 6 AGAIN and use the wavelet feature to bring out the detail, align RGB and auto color adjust. Save again.
7.
Finalize my adjustments (brightness, contrast, saturation, resizing, etc. ) in PS6 and Faststone image viewer.
8.
Takes about 90 seconds to take the pictures and about 30 minutes to do all the processing.
The end.
Oh, my equipment was
Edge 8"
ZWO 178 mono camera
Astronomik RGB filters (Atik filter wheel)
Brandon 1.5 barlow element
