Anyway, my job took me to Santa Barbara on Friday. It was on a private jet (not luxury, experimental), so I was able to roam about taking pictures. I became fascinated especially with the otherworldly landscapes around Arizona, New Mexico from 41000 ft.

I know the cons and pros.

It would be primary a tool to capture moments of my kids. The 4K video and the ability to pull semi-quality stills from that video is interesting.

It's probably the best do-all-in-one camera on the market.

Astrophoto I took a couple nights ago.



This bright and colorful area of the sky is called the "Rho Ophiuchi cloud complex". It's a mix of emission, reflection, and dark nebula. Rho Ophiuchi is basically the 3 stars in the left side blue reflection nebula. Antares, the heart of Scorpio, is the reddish-yellow supergiant in the lower right. M4, a nice globular cluster with hundreds of thousands of stars, is in the upper right. The red areas are emission nebula, where ultraviolet light stimulates mainly hydrogen alpha emissions in the red spectrum. Blue is from the brighter blue stars...yellow reflections off of dust around Antares. The dark areas are dust lanes back lit from the stars and reflection nebula.

To find this, watch for Mars to rise in the southeast a little after midnight. It's really bright and reddish. Look slightly below and to the right and you will see a dimmer but still bright red-yellow star, Antares. I exposed for a cumulative 75 minutes with a 200 mm lens on a Canon 70D.

The reviews are amazing however... Almost D5 low light performance, bettet
dynamic range than D4 and D5, almost D800. 10FPS and AF that focuses on
subjects the shooter actually does not even see...

This is the first time I pre-bought a camera and it seems I will not be disappointed

So D5 AF, almost D800 dynamic range, almost D5 low light, 10 FPS, touch screen, 4K video though I will rarely use it.

Yeah, I wish they'd offer non-video bodies at a reduced cost. Nikon is offering the D5 in two different versions with the memory configs. I see no difference with a video option. I never use the video feature either. I personally just use my cellphone or standalone recorder.

these pics make the terrain look less than it was... especially the first since that was a pretty good downhill slope but i was pointing the camera uphill which made it seem flatter and the grass and angle hide the deep ruts and washout

Thanks. I don't often have time to play with my camera, let alone my macro lens but I made some time a few days ago. Still sorting through the photos but that was one of the first ones I started working with.

Picked up a Fuji XT10 kit. XC 16-50, XC 50-230, and also picked up the XF 35 f2 WR prime.

Stunning results so far!

Didn't really pick it up for wildlife but here's a sample.

Yeah man, it's in my blood. It was killing me only having my cell phone to take photos lol.

This Fuji is probably the best body I shot. The most fun anyways. Might look at the pro body stuff later in the year.

Very nice! My only suggestion would be to use a little slower shutter speed to get a little more blur on the propellers.

Yea, I would have loved to use 1/320 but I also had my son on my shoulders while shooting, pan tracking was a little difficult so I had to go faster

D500 has the best AF in the workd by a significant margin...

Love mine and works really well with older lenses also.

Not yet, just had the camera for a little over a week and just haven't had the time.

I was able to get my free grip, free oem battery and $200(includes lens purchase) in bestbuy reward points for $1796. So really the body cost my $1150. Not a bad deal.
