Z4M, yeah tracking in the dark is tough, my success rate is **** so I end up shooting a lot.
1/125 or 1/160 for most of the stuff at 2.8 and 3200 iso. exposure meter flashing at me in the -3 range most of the time, do what I can and then adjust them in lightroom, it's amazing how much detail is still hidden in the RAW data even when underexposed.
I found 1/125 or 1/160 is the sweetspot for auto racing, it gives just the right amount of blur while still being able to keep most of the car in focus at moderate speeds.
If you look at my raceday stuff from a few years back you'll see I shot much higher shutter speeds and you get a nice clear photo but it just doesn't have the same amount of presence. The blur adds a lot to the photos.
I'll never forget when I came across M13 for the first time by accident. I was using a Meade ETX 90 and was just scanning the sky when it entered my view. It was pretty amazing and well defined even in the 90mm scope..

I was listening to some instrumental music while working, and a track from Tracey Chattaway called "Starlights" came up. Of course the subject of the song resonated with me (actually the whole album), and made me want to put my photos on with it. So I asked permission and here it is. Good, bad, or ugly like I say. Hope you DO actually like it though.

Thanks! I realized after posting that the "You all have been wondering..." intro was intended for my friends and family who have had to suffer more from my pictures on Facebook and this was a significant deviation from my normal life. I doubt you have all been wondering...

I'm starting to think 65% of the hobby for myself is the appeal of gear lol. I love trying out different stuff. Fortunately for me there's no loss(most of the time) on buying used and very little on new lenses(most of the time). So it essentially rental fees at the end of the day(and they do add up tho). Bodies can take a bigger hit on a loss but sometimes not if it's a quick turn around or bought during a fire sale.
The af on the 7D2 is pretty awesome and despite what DXO(I've learned their scores are useless in real life) claims, it has IQ to back it up. It's not known for it's LS abilities but I've been pleasantly surprised.

Ha, there's a guy at MY work who owns one of those and flies around the airstrip near my house...looks fun.
Not much to image lately for my setup, pretty rainy. I got bored and reedited my Orion widefield with some subframes from other shots. Shifted some colors for intensity. Thought it turned out cool; hope you like it.

The cell phone picture is definitely good for a cell phone and perfectly fine. BUT, and I'm not trying to be an ass or anything, just pointing out some differences between a cell phone and dedicated camera:
1) The noise is higher in the shade areas, check the lower left silver car door panels.
2) Interpolation is quite different between high contrast areas, check the roof lines.
3) CA is more apparent, which shows up as like on the right side with the white downspouts against the sky.
Again, this is NOT slamming the cell phone because it's perfectly fine, but this just shows why you get a truly dedicated camera with larger sensor, better lens and processing.

Tyr-Sog, realized I forgot to mention I loved your set of images. I've learned to stop listening to DXO as well because I see so many great images from the 7D2, and even my 70D. Uh, I guess it helps your images are so well composed!
As stated before, I've been improving my processing to pull up some darker nebulous areas. I really like the effects; here is the North America/Pelican Nebula area that picked up quite a bit from the last go at the data.
