I don't mind going second hand and I would prefer not to spend over £500. Has to have good zoom and macro etc.

Mainly for taking photos on walks etc but will also be used for some very close up shots of wildlife and my partners ceramics which I'm to showcase on a site I have yet to build for her.

Ease of use is also important, I would like the option to manually mess around once I get to grips with everything but an 'auto' mode of some sort would be helpful at first.

    Cheers

Something along the lines of this maybe.

Officially announced, looks tempting. This might be a worth while upgrade for me. My Sigma HSMII (non OS) is good but its really soft under f/4 so its kind of useless. Then again i hardly shoot under f/4 anyway, so if i can ditch it for a decent price i can see this new nikon being a great upgrade. Id get VR (new VR system up to 5 stops) + nikon superior glass = WIN. Problem is, i dont think it comes with a tripod collar, getting one is about $240

I guess the new VR system is their excuse for not including the tripod collar. The price of the collar is outrageous, but that's pretty par for the course with Nikon accessories.

This isnt the best example, but the only photo i can access right now, as im not on my desktop

this is an extreme crop out of the center of the frame from the day i noticed the lens was screwed.
look to the left, see the blurriness there, almost the whole frame is like that.

Yeah when i seen the price for it i was like, ohrly!!
But looking into it more so the weight of this new lens (850g) is half of the 2.8, so it may not need one after all as the weight may not be punishing on the mount.

yeah this is the reason, the equivalent canon doesn't have a tripod collar either, they are much lighter than the 2.8's

Plus I'm sure 3rd party collars will be much cheaper.

The price is just right for this! I'll have it next year though.

Can't wait for my D800 to get here tomorrow! Came with a free 32GB Sandisk 60mb/s CF (thank goodness, because my 8GB cards will probably only hold 100 images each), free additional battery (off-brand) and a free bag (which I probably won't use).

edit: I have the f/1.8G prime trinity. Looks like Nikon is advertising their f/4 zoom trinity now at the bottom of the page. http://www.nikonusa.com/en/Nikon-Pro...F4G-ED-VR.html

Carefully look at the contacts on the lens and make sure you do not
have a contact held down by a grain of salt or something.

You can use a cotton swap with lens cleaner on it to wipe
the contacts with them pointing down.

If you do have crap in the contacts, the swap will stick it on...

                    Happened to myself as well...

Fortunately, the design of the contact makes it so that crap will
fall out if you push it in.

Looks like a fun day! Those look at lot like my early stuff.

I like to shoot around f/9, and around 100-200iso on sunny days, usually gets the shutter speed down around 1/125-1/200 or so. Adds a big sense of action. It also requires a lot more work on your part as that's pretty slow for fast moving cars.

Most of my stuff from mosport earlier this year was set like that, it came out a lot more exciting than a my shots from last year and the year before.

                        i'd guess that'll hold like 450-500. my 32's hold about 850 22mp raws.

I'm almost tempted to take the collar off my 2.8 and put it away, I found myself not using it at all really, except for my camera sling. beyond that with IS, a bajillion ISO, the times I am using this particular lens, it's not necessary.

dusk and later though I would find it useful.

I agree, I was shooting with the shutter a little too fast for the pictures to be all that interesting (motorsports needs a little motion). I used a slower shutter for some others but I don't care for too much blur so I doubt I would go down to 1/125.

Nah (but people always say I speak fast, like my natives do), my mother does a bit (due to her being in the Air Force for 23 years). My grandmother heck of a lot of course.

It's an off-Irish accent btw (due to the history of the Brits and the Irish).

                                                      yep its working now....

Took some photos at a shitty ass bar, but the music good... its a blacklight bar, so it was super dark and bars don't have stage lights, so I had to use flashes...

Since they liked these, sounds like i'm hired for some promo shots...

Well I wanted to get some sort of "black light" effect since it was a blacklight bar, however shooting at iso 6400 and a 30th of a second wasn't going go do it.... so, threw 2 flashes up with blue gels on my flextt5's behind the band, put the sb800 on camera, with a rogue flash bender (love this thing, as goofey as it looks, it works great, same thing I used for the Hip-Hop show I posted images earlier)

FlexTT5's are lifesavers when you don't have much time to test lighting. Altho I do bust out the plus 3's from time to time
