I guess the new VR system is their excuse for not including the tripod collar. The price of the collar is outrageous, but that's pretty par for the course with Nikon accessories.AMD Ryzen 7 5800X | Fractal Design Celsius S24 AIO | Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite | 2 x 16GB G.SKILL Ripjaws V DDR4-3200 (14-14-14-34) B-Die | MSI 3080 VENTUS 3X OC 10G | Creative Sound Blaster Z | Samsung 970 EVO 500GB M.2 NVMe SSD | WD Black SN750 1TB M.2 NVMe SSD | Samusng 850 Evo 500GB SSD | Seagate Barracuda 2TB | WD 640GB Black | Asus BW-12B1ST 12X Blu-ray Burner | Fractal Design Define R5 case | EVGA SuperNOVA 750 G2 PSU | Win 10 Pro | 4K w/Hisense 55" U8H Mini LED Quantum ULED 4K TV

this is an extreme crop out of the center of the frame from the day i noticed the lens was screwed.
look to the left, see the blurriness there, almost the whole frame is like that.

But looking into it more so the weight of this new lens (850g) is half of the 2.8, so it may not need one after all as the weight may not be punishing on the mount.

Plus I'm sure 3rd party collars will be much cheaper.
The price is just right for this! I'll have it next year though.
Can't wait for my D800 to get here tomorrow! Came with a free 32GB Sandisk 60mb/s CF (thank goodness, because my 8GB cards will probably only hold 100 images each), free additional battery (off-brand) and a free bag (which I probably won't use).
edit: I have the f/1.8G prime trinity. Looks like Nikon is advertising their f/4 zoom trinity now at the bottom of the page. http://www.nikonusa.com/en/Nikon-Pro...F4G-ED-VR.html

have a contact held down by a grain of salt or something.
You can use a cotton swap with lens cleaner on it to wipe
the contacts with them pointing down.
If you do have crap in the contacts, the swap will stick it on...
Happened to myself as well...
Fortunately, the design of the contact makes it so that crap will
fall out if you push it in.

I like to shoot around f/9, and around 100-200iso on sunny days, usually gets the shutter speed down around 1/125-1/200 or so. Adds a big sense of action. It also requires a lot more work on your part as that's pretty slow for fast moving cars.
Most of my stuff from mosport earlier this year was set like that, it came out a lot more exciting than a my shots from last year and the year before.[tR3d]lmpreza

I'm almost tempted to take the collar off my 2.8 and put it away, I found myself not using it at all really, except for my camera sling. beyond that with IS, a bajillion ISO, the times I am using this particular lens, it's not necessary.
dusk and later though I would find it useful.[tR3d]lmpreza

Testing out the D800.
201210260071 by dharrisphotog, on Flickr
Another high ISO shot, this time at ISO 4000. I'm not hesitant to use the full normal ISO range on the D800.
201210260108 by dharrisphotog, on Flickr
At ISO 5600, I'd say the high ISO works very well. About a stop better performance than my old D700.
This started out as a full resolution photo, but I went with a vertical crop at 2770x4150. Again, the extra pixels give lots of room for editing.

The detail is amazing. This is the best 35mm digital camera ever produced.
