i was in the forks of the credit area, then in monocliffs provincial park, the went to stop at the cheltanham badlands.. every single place had like 500 cars lined up both sides of the road, all japanese tourists.
didnt even bother to stop at cheltanham as there was soo many people there.
went off the main trail at monocliff to get aay from the crowds...
heres a few pics
Osirus, yes... there were many! Line ups were huge as well but they seemed to move pretty quick. Awesome pics BTW. We should have our own little R3D photo outting. Grab a bunch of us and trek somewhere while having bewskies and grub!
Tyr, i really like the first one.... tho he looks a little worried for some reason
sounds good GIBRO.
Yeah il have to get the one pic i have of the cheltemham badlands..

put photo down.
smooth out any bubbles and ridges
let dry
spray with spray polyurethane
Did a photo shoot at a local club who was doing a fitness model search. Have too many to load, but these sum up the event. First run with the Tamron 24-70 VC, impressed!!! The bikini shots are from the Sigma 70-200.
How did you get this shot? Hand held? Is it live or dead? I'm having a hard time getting used to my Tokina macro...
Patience and not making fast movements, lol. Shot is handheld (camera in right and flash with diffuser in left.. camera set to commander mode). Shot at 1:1. The yellow jacket is alive. I try to get a shot or two off while they're resting for a moment or cleaning themselves. There's a been a bunch of them hanging around our backyard. They're so preoccupied with gathering food right now that they don't care about you too much. They seem to be going after those little white pellet things which are a sticky sugary substance that a tree in our backyard is pooping all over the place.
I've found settings that work real well for me when shooting macros with the off-camera flash. Camera set to manual, f/16, 1/250th or higher shutter speed depending on how much natural light the subject is bathed in, adjust sensitivity as needed but usually at ISO100. I typically don't use the depth-of-field preview button when shooting full macro with these settings because it's too dark, so I kind of gauge where I want the focal plane to be based on the really shallow f/2.8 aperture (which is usually on the head when shooting bugs). I miss the focus that I want more than I get it right but that's the way it goes, especially if there's any movement from you or the subject.
It's going to take lots of practice to get used to and get the shots you want out of your macro lens. Experimenting and taking lots of shots is the key.
And how do you like your 100-300 f/4 Sigma?
I like it overall. It's not too sharp wide-open at 300mm but stop it down a bit and it's pretty good. It also does fairly well with the Sigma 1.4x TC, but autofocus can get testy. The only thing I really don't like is its performance at the fringe of its abilities (which is what the earlier argument was all about). I guess great performance throughout its range is too much to expect from a $1000 lens in this category though. I've learned to work around it and I've gotten great shots with it. It's not a bad choice if you want the extra reach and don't want to mess with a teleconverter.

What focus mode do you use? I've often found the auto area (solid white square) works really well for macro work, as long as there is not foreground elements
Anything wider than f/3.5 its output is inconsistent. Meaning the pic quality can be soft as it has a white ghost like haze on the edges of your subject. It doesn't happen all the time but often enough that i usually shoot f/4 and tighter. Since going FX it seems to behave better. Other than that, the focus is quick quiet and reliable. I just wish i had VR on mine, since going VR on my other lenses its a dream to use/have in those low light situations. As for quality, i used that lens for most of those bikini shots... so not bad.

Guys, since you hall have new lenses, make sure that the back
element is clean as plastic still cures in the package and will still
give off a sort of haze...
I had a before and after pics of this with my 300 F4, which I cannot find,
but the difference was quite noticeable...

I always shoot manual focus for handheld macro work. Set your magnification and focus by moving the camera forward and backward.

if its Mid 1,xxx that's how much I paid for my 70-200 F2.8 VRI new, I paid $1550 iirc, hopefully its closer to $1,xxx
I'm hoping it's no more than $1500.
I decided that macro photography is not for me. Tokina lens went back. Going to get some sort of telephoto and with the f/4 Nikon coming next month, that may be the one.

I just sold my tamron 90 macro. I thought I'd get in to macro and I just couldn't get in to it.

What would you guys recommend to a noob who does not want to spend too much?
I don't mind going second hand and I would prefer not to spend over £500. Has to have good zoom and macro etc.
Mainly for taking photos on walks etc but will also be used for some very close up shots of wildlife and my partners ceramics which I'm to showcase on a site I have yet to build for her.
Ease of use is also important, I would like the option to manually mess around once I get to grips with everything but an 'auto' mode of some sort would be helpful at first.
OK, so my Wife has an old Nikon D50. Good little camera, but looking to replace it. Main qualms with it are the three focus points, high noise on mid ISO ranges, and an abysmal LCD on the back.
One thing she REALLY likes is the size of it, (she's 4'10", so the mid / large DSLR lineup is hard for her to hold). so looking for a replacement. the D3200 seems like a nice option, but not as familiar with Nikon as I am with Canon. Thoughts?

The 3200 is a great option. Plus she can keep her lens/lenses. FYI if she has any non AF-S Nikon lenses there won't be autofocus with the 3200 (it lacks an AF screwdrive motor which the D50 has).
