Not horribly impressed with my New Tamron 17-50 2.8
Couple of my better shots from it.

I've got a RMA for an exchange.
I had bad lighting but you can see how soft and out of whack this lens is.

I returned the tamron 17-50 and decided to exchange it for a Sigma 30 1.4. I think I'm more of a prime guy anyways.Justin

you know, im about to do the same... meaning dumping my mid range zoom, for now anyways. Rearranging my gear and i just dont find myself using it all that often, least used lens of mine. BUT its awesome (nik 17-55)... but i just love what primes do!
Tried that 30 1.4 the other day, was pretty impressed with it. I just cant decide if i want the Nik 85 1.8, sig 85 1.4 or spend a litte more and get a used nik 85 1.4. From what ive seen, i dont think the extra $$$$ is worth it tho (performance).

What I have/want...
Sigma 10-20(have)
Sigma 30 1.4(have/ordered)
Tamron 90 2.8(have, may sell in favor of a N-85 1.4 and if im not doing much macro)
Nikon 85 1.4(want)
Nikkor 180 2.8(want)
Nikkor 300 f/4 a-fs(want)
Tamron 70-300VC(have, will sell when I get the 180 and 300f/4)
Nikon 1.4x tele(want)\
I ship out my 300 f/4 if-ed af today. Makes me sadlol. It's just to slow AF'ing and the minimum focusing distance is to far.
Cost on the 85 1.4 may stop that purchase though. I'm not sure I'd sell the tamron 90 for the 85 1.8. Everything I've read the tammy gives the 85 1.8 a run for its money and the tammy actually has better OOF and bokeh. So the only logical step is the 85 1.4.
I'd like to maybe have the 70-200 VRII over the 180 but I just don't want to shell out that kind of money if I'm not making money from this hobby.Last edited by Tyr-Sog; Aug 23, 2012, 04:29 AM.Justin

I couldn't wait for the shippingback/return process of the tamron 17-50 and went ahead and bought the Sigma 30 1.4 locally!
All I'd beat online is the tax and to tell you the truth, I feel more confident buying locally anyways. At least when buying this kind of gear.
Now I just need to go out and use itJustin

The Sigma 30mm 1.4 feels incredible on the D7000. It's built like a tank and just screams quality. Focus is quick, much quicker then the nikkor 35 1.8 and it's also more quite then the nikkor was. At 2.5 times the cost of the nikkor I guess it should though lol
First shot only edit is a minor contrast tweak and crop.
AF is dead on(on the right eyebrow).

Couple shots from Cos & Effect 2012. All the Fullmetal Alchemist people did a little photoshoot. Most of mine didn't turn out all that well, but here are some of the better shots
I don't normally shoot people. The results really made me want a new Camera, this A75's screen is so damn tiny-Trunks0

I'm trying out LR4 for the first time and with only 1 day under my belt I feel like there's bit of a learning curve.
Here's my first edit with LR4. The second edit is with CNX2
IMO the LR4 edit works better for this photo but I can't seem to get the detail that I can with CNX2. I'm certain that I'm just missing something with LR4. Also I know that CNX2 has the advantage of in camera settings.

I like CNX2 but lets be honest and it's still a powerful RAW editing tool but it's future is bleak. NIK is more then likely done with it(no plug in support) and I need to start looking for software that is supported.

Yea, I'm starting to get the hang of LR. I still feel at this point the CNX2 is the more powerful of the two and has the edge in IQ. But with Nikon contracting NIK to write Nikons software I guess it's to be expected. LR4 is the overall package though. Great UI(a bit steep on learning tho), lots of tools, organization aspects, etc.
I spent a lot of hours on one photo trying to get it to emulate my CNX2 edits but just couldn't get it there. I think it all stems to the sharpness. My LR4 edits seem to be softer overall no matter the amount of sharpening added. I think LR4(and from researching it seems to be a complaint) sharpening is a bit weak and it seems many get the NIK sharpening plug in to complement LR4.Justin
