First try at night sky photography
I wanted to get more out of the milkyway. This was at 10:30pm so there was still some sunset in the low sky.

What do you use for a tracker? I have a half-built barn-door tracker but I need a good tripod before I even consider finishing it. I put it on my cheapy sunpak and it was all floppity flop.

That shot is great! Does nikon have a camera for astrophotography? the new 60Da is supposed to be pretty nice since it has a more night-sky focused IR filter on the sensor.

I didn't track here. Just a 30-second stationary exposure on my manfrotto. I just edited with CNX2.

I'm seriously looking at that Meade lx80 mount. Mount alone sells from $1000. With a 8" Schmidt–Cassegrain it's like $1600. I'd piggy back on the 8" for some wide sky shots and use the 8" for some deep space.. I may just start with the mount for now though.

Bought a new P&S to replace my aging Panny TZ5. It's another Panasonic , the ZS19/ZS20/TZ30, and for the technical capabilities, it's not bad. No match against my DSLR or any for that matter, but it works in a pinch.

Messing around with some product photo type shots. Came out pretty decent considering my archaic lightbox, crappy lights, and limited workspace.

Could have smoothed the base out on the headphone rack a little where the cloth was rumpled up, but it was too late.

Im really liking the bokeh on the 60mm, from what ive seen so far it appears to be the creamiest of all my lenses (35, 50, 17-55, 70-200). Yeah the wasps are going crazy today, more so than usual. I dont know if its because its one of the fresher days we've had in a while, or everything just seems to be blooming at the right time. Their stances changed when i got closer, so that kind of made me stop The 105 would be prime in these cases.

What would be the best accessory to help close in (increase focal length)?

Its been a few years since I've been there.. The Detroit Zoological Society took control of the Zoo from the City a few years back (06) After our great city council voted to shut it down. The Zoological Society has made drastic changes to the overall quality and I would have no issues recommending the Zoo to anyone that visits the Detroit area.

                                              Some info:

The Detroit Zoo is one of Michigan’s largest family attractions, hosting more than 1.1 million visitors annually. [15] [16] Situated on 125 acres of naturalistic exhibits, it provides a natural habitat for more than 3,300 animals representing 280 species.[17] Opened in 1928, the Detroit Zoo was the first zoo in the United States to use barless exhibits extensively.

Accredited by the Association of Zoos & Aquariums,[3] the Detroit Zoo features many award-winning exhibits including the Wildlife Interpretive Gallery, National Amphibian Conservation Center, Great Apes of Harambee and Arctic Ring of Life, [18] which was named the number-two best zoo exhibit in the U.S. by the Intrepid Traveler’s guide to “America’s Best Zoos”.

The Wildlife Interpretive Gallery is home to the Butterfly Garden, a tropical indoor habitat featuring hundreds of butterflies from Central and South America. Adjacent to the Free-flight Aviary, the facility also features a 90-seat theater and showcases the Zoo’s permanent fine art collection.[19]

The National Amphibian Conservation Center is a $7 million, 12,000-square-foot facility situated on a two-acre Michigan wetland area and pond called “Amphibiville”. The exhibit boasts a spectacular diversity of frogs, toads, salamanders, newts and caecilians. The Wall Street Journal dubbed the attraction “Disneyland for toads”. [20]

The Great Apes of Harambee is a four-acre indoor/outdoor habitat which houses chimpanzees, Western lowland gorillas and drills. The animals spend their days foraging, grooming and playing just as they would in their native African environment. [21]

The Arctic Ring of Life is North America’s largest polar bear exhibit. The $14 million four-acre interactive facility features the Frederick and Barbara Erb Polar Passage, where visitors walk through a 70-foot-long clear underwater tunnel as polar bears and seals swim around them. [22]

Among other highlights at the Detroit Zoo are the expansive Australian Outback Adventure featuring a walk-through with kangaroos and wallabies, the Giraffe Encounter where guests can feed the Zoo’s tallest creatures, the Penguinarium (the first facility of its kind created specifically for penguins), the iconic Horace H. Rackham Memorial Fountain, the Tauber Family Railroad, the Carousel, and the Ford Education Center which houses the Wild Adventure Ride and the Wild Adventure 3-D/4-D Theater.[23]

The Wild Adventure Ride is an educational, action-packed thrill ride which offers an exciting you-are-there experience from the comfort of a specially equipped motion-simulated big-screen theater seat. The 126-seat Wild Adventure 3-D/4-D Theater, the only theater of its kind at any Michigan zoo, delivers a high-definition viewing experience in 3-D with 7.1 digital audio surround sound, enhanced with full-sensory 4-D special effects such as blasts of wind, mist and scents. Which is odd because on Monday it was the most crowed I've ever seen it.. parking structure was full, mini lot just outside of it full and the 10mile lot packed as far as I could see..

My 3 year old son starts soccer soon and I'd like the faster AF. Plus the closer focusing range would be a huge bonus for me.

Other then that it has served me well and is an excellent lens in EX+ condition.

Right now im firing the strobes via body with the pop up flash being 1/128. If i try to use the strobes with the speedlights it fires a pre flash regardless if i use ttl or not, so the strobes misfire and i get a dark picture. So im just looking for a decent method of combining everything that wont be a wallet breaker.

So im just looking for a decent method of combining everything that wont be a wallet breaker.
I use PocketWizards FlexTT5's as well as PlusIII(put on lights I don't need to adjust output). That said, non wallet breaker, would be hard wire the strobes, or save up for plusIII's (nothing else i've used comes close to their reliablilty and ease of use, cybersyncs are cheaper option)

I've never had good luck with optical and only marginal success with CLS

                                                                            Comment
