great shots as usual everyone. Osirus, i love the shots from the HSBC Arena; cool car shots, GIBro--I've never been to the Auto Show, but Michael-Angelos has had a car show for the last several years, usually on the May 2-4 weekend, and there are some very cool classic cars on display there.

here are a few from today:

That and i should make use of the auto leveler as well, sometimes you just dont realize the minor shift but when you go back to look at your images your like whooooa. Fixable in PP but something to consider. Because of that ive now hot keyed to my fn button.
I typically stick with 800-1600 iso for mostly everything unless it's a sunny day where thats just too much.

Barely any discernible difference in noise between 100 and 1600 iso on the 5d2

Full frame is on my list for one day...

Might have to make use of bonus money one of these days.

In fact, my dream setup will run me about $7k.

I went around and shot until the card was full. 388 shots (average size 19MB). Much better than the 223 count Nikon estimates.

Sidenote: The battery life on this thing is sick.

I unfortunately sold all my gear from college. So starting fresh. Have everything I need now though to get started. Just limited to my 50mm until later in the year.

Well..still waiting on camera...two-three more days!

So, it's been a couple interesting days.

I got my camera yesterday afternoon.

That evening I found out about an event at Ruby Falls where they open the cave up to photographers. No reservation, but managed to get in. No tour, just free reign of the half mile cave for 2 hours. It was awesome. Entire cave with only 7 people in it (Myself, 5 other photographers, and one "guide" to make certain we were out by 10.

Then tonight I got into a private charity Gala, working with the photographer of the event. I wound up doing a lot of the event photography, so he could handle the portraiture. A couple guys from Home Makeover Extreme Edition were there, so lots of shots with them.

So I've had my camera less than 48 hours, and already two pretty awesome chances to shoot. (All the while going "OK, how to I change aperture without the quick menu, got to be a better way. OK, what ISO can I shoot at and get decent quality? Is 1.8 to low of an aperture to still get decent quality from this lens?

All told, over 1100 photos in two days. Of which...well, no idea how many will be kept. Even 1 in 10 would be a lot...Shot a LOT more than needed at the Gala, so that the photographer would have more to work with. (That and having way to much fun playing with the low light. Loving the 50mm lens even if it is the plastic fantastic. LOL)

Photos as I clean them up.

Nice shots A2597, those cropped? Just wondering cause it looks like some of the focusing seemed to have slightly missed, but it could be just related to cropping.

Osirus, very nice, cant wait to see what you think about the differences between the two lenses. I'm thinking about getting a prime but unsure what focal length i want.

i was all excited, i finally got a day off tomorrow after working 6 straight, then working all next week too.
and its supposed to rain all day... eww
going to make a slushy mess as theres about 15cm of snow here right now
can already feel it warming up.

i was planning on going to take some photos somewhere, but if its pouring out..

Osirus, very nice, cant wait to see what you think about the differences between the two lenses. I'm thinking about getting a prime but unsure what focal length i want.
Sadly, not cropped. I've been having trouble hitting the focus right, and not certain why. (Best guess is autofocus + super low light + longer exposure. Had trouble at the gala event Saturday as well, autofocus picking up on the wrong thing repeatedly. Need to work on that.

Edit: Reading up, it's a common problem. Wide open + low light = difficulty auto focusing. Good to know.

From my personal exp; I wouldn't say it being a known problem but more or less this is the issue with low light focusing in general. This is why i usually use single point focus when the subjects are not really moving. That or maybe control the amount of focus points used in AF if possible... lesser points = forces AF to be less jumpy. To have low light AF be effective you need the subject to be as contrast as possible to the background. Better yet, this is another reason to buy a good external flash. The focus assist from them really make things that much better. Lastly, when being hand held dont expect anything to be sharp if youre having the shutter speeds lower than 1/40 or less... unless you have crazy pro VR lenses and pro bodies which make it a little easier.

What I generally do now is use manual focus, but I may hit my auto focus button to "get me close" then fine tune from there. If I'm going to use auto focus, I use the grid focal point selection so I can make sure what is going to be in focus for the scene. I'm not sure what camera you are using, but I would imagine it has something like that (as I think that's pretty standard these days and my camera is old ).

The Fuji Finepix F300 EXR inherits the unique EXR technology introduced in the F200 EXR and extends it with built-in Phase-Detection autofocus right on the imaging sensor for ultra-fast focusing speed in a compact digital camera. The EXR sensor is designed to capture high-resolution, low-noise or high-dynamic-range images, depending on one of its three operating modes. Unlike the 12 megapixels high-resolution mode, the enhanced modes capture 6 megapixels images with up to 800% more dynamic range than normal cameras can in a single exposure.
I wonder if any of its competitors are better.

The Fujifilm FinePix F300EXR is the latest travel-zoom camera, sporting a 15x lens with a versatile focal range of 24-360mm. Taking on the likes of the Panasonic TZ10 and Samsung WB650, the new 12 megapixel F300EXR features a hybrid auto-focus system that switches between traditional contrast AF and a quicker phase detection AF system, as used in DSLR cameras. But can it keep up with its main rivals too? Read our in-depth Fujifilm FinePix F300EXR review to find out...
