The last few pages has some fantastic shots!!!! Just wonderful!!!!
Just some more random ones around the house. Yesterday morning had some nice weather, cold but the sun was at least out, but when i got around to actually leaving the house the clouds rolled in and it started to snow again. Man, it was perfect... thankfully i took a few test shots from my yard.
Some more high iso samples (3200)

What's going on here gentlemen? This is happening on both my lenses (85 & 50). Referring to the fringing going on in the tree branches in the background.
Never mind the shot is overexposed but I like the way she looks in this one:

Not sure about the branches, is this file untouched or was there some PP done on it? Whats your sharpening setting, default or did you bump it up?
Havent really had the time to look into the details of you your photo yet, but I think the light behind her is the culprit as its blowing everything out. The camera did a decent job in preserving the shadow detail and exposure on her body which is what you were probably metering. Again i havent really done your type of shots with the d7000, but from what ive seen so far i believe the different types of focusing methods have an impact on the cameras metering. I just need to figure it out a bit more by playing around with it. I think flash would have been ideal in this situation, that or maybe a higher shutter speed. Not sure, maybe some of the experts can shed some more light ( hehe) on these types of shots.

I only applied some sharpening in LR3 and turned down the clarity setting to give her face a softer look. The purple fringing in the trees is before and after the PP and I haven't been able to get rid of it. I have the lens correction feature turned on in LR3 as well.
Looks like I did spot metering too. I thought I had in on matrix metering, so that's probably the issue (and why the highlights are blown). Also, I've been reading that shooting in direct sunlight (like I did here) wasn't the wisest of choices and this is what happens.
I guess I'll chalk this up to learning the camera+lens and NOT shoot with the sunlight directly behind my subject (at least with thin lines like tree branches in the background)Laptop: Dell XPS 15 9560 | Core i7 Kaby Lake 2.8GHz | 16GB DDR4 RAM | Geforce 1050M | 1TB Samsung 960 EVO

True, thats what i learned when i went to Greece. I noticed better images when the sun was at my back. Not sure if matrix metering would have helped with the sun right at yeah, it can be a bitch at times. I guess this is why they say the golden hrs of photography is either sun rise or sun set, much softer/warmer light as the suns rays are filtered through the atmosphere rather than hitting directly during noon hr which causes harsh shadows. Fill flash might be the only option when traveling light and having the need to shoot directly into the sun.
Hmmmm, it appears its not liking the clarity and or sharpening. I think ive seen that happen when i played around too much with those settings too, so i usually dont bother with them unless really needed. Chronic abbreviations might also be more apparent with such blown out highlights, i guess one problem placed more emphasis on another.

Depends on what you intend to do with the video.
Main benefit of T3i is swivel screen and manual gain control. With MagicLantern firmware, you can get manual gain controll on the t2i, so I'd say go with that.

Indoor low light shot - making do without a D7000.

Canon 60D - was planning on T2i, but after much reading, decided that it was worth the small pricejump for my purpose. (Which I intend to do much video with this. Also, my P&S had a swivel screen, so will want that. Better weather proofing, etc).
As for lenses, I broke the cardnal rule in purchasing DSLR (Cheap body, expencive glass) and went with a the thrifty fifty ( 50mm 1.8). I'll primarily be doing landscape and portraiture which...well...hello 50mm. I'll add more lenses to the bag later, as I can afford them. Will want a macro lens and a zoom lens at some point. Looking at Sigma for the zoom, and undecided on the macro.Last edited by A2597; Feb 15, 2011, 12:05 PM.

does anyone know if a good lens can go bad? ie, my 50mm f1/8 lens is front and back focusing on my T1i, whereas it used to be very sharp on my ancient XT. i don't know if it's the camera, since all my other lenses work just fine, or the lens, which is cheaply constructed anyway. if it can malfunction .... i wouldn't mind replacing it with the 50mm f1/4!Flickr
