It looks like it will “magically disappear” just like someone said it would. Unless, of course, if you work at a hospital.
I'm hoping medical institutions will see this for this for what it is and start making public their own data as well as sending it to the Trump administration.
There are enough folks interested in this that someone would collate that data and having a secondary check would be very useful when the administration undoubtedly tries to twist the data in favor of whatever the dumb agenda of the day ends up being.
For anyone to see this and not be concerned means that they've fully drank the koolaid and are the "sheeple" that they so decree...
Are we adding trigger warnings for those afraid of the truth now? I'm just asking for a friend.....

Have you seen how some people react in P&R?

Walmart and Sam's Club will start requiring masks at stores and clubs nationwide starting Monday, July 20, the company announced Wednesday.
Walmart is going nationwide with the masking regardless if there is a local ordinance. I really hope they're not asking senior citizens to enforce this and their health ambassadors are trained up to deal with unruly customers.
Have you seen how some people react in OT when something doesn't fit their political perspective vs. when someone posts diatribes that do? I have. It makes me chuckle.

To be fair, that goes both ways.

Yeah, they block you and then assume you're butthurt because they did. It's a special crowd.
Just because you had one experience don’t mean you should throw everyone in P&R under the bus. I have 0 people blocked on this forum and never would. It is pointless when you have good moderators like we do. I’d say the majority of posters there act the same as I do. There is plenty of posts I read that I don’t want to see. But, that’s how those types of forums work. I think a more common problem is people that go there and don’t like what they see, opt out and start bashing those that do post there.

You're correct. I by no means mean it's everyone. My reply is in reference to a specific post in a specific thread. Sometimes you just have to sit back and laugh.
Others have already posted about the potential long term effects of COVID. While it is predominantly in the lungs, the ACE2 receptor that COVID targets is found in tissues throughout the body, so it truly is a systemic infection.
But in addition to that, you can't just look at 1% (or whatever) death rate and say that's all that we need to worry about. Our healthcare infrastructure is only designed to handle so many people at once. If the hospitals get overrun they not only can't treat people with COVID, they can't adequately treat people with other problems either. So, the excess death rate (how many more deaths occur than is normal for that time of year) is going to be significantly higher than just the COVID deaths. That alone is why the spread of the virus needs to be controlled.
Also, as far as that goes, maybe some people can look at the percentage in a totally detached way, but I don't think that is how humans in general operate. Those aren't just random statistics, they are mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, husbands, wives, sons, daughters, friends, acquaintances, hell maybe some people you don't like but still don't want to have die. As a species we're just not that dispassionate about people dying.
1% of the world population would also be 780 million people (side note: it's crazy how many people there are in the world). Granted, not everyone will get infected, so it's unlikely that many would die to COVID. It's just an example of how 1% can add up to a very large number. 1% of the U.S. population would also be over 3 million people. Those numbers are why trying to control the virus through "herd immunity" isn't that appealing. Not to mention there are now reports suggesting that you can be reinfected, which means it wouldn't work anyway.
If I had a nickle for every time I've been off by a factor of 10, I'd be a millionaire or maybe have 100k or something
But I see I'm not alone, 1% of world population would be about 78 million (still about the size of Germany wiped off the earth, so yeah lots of people)
ORLANDO, Fla. - After FOX 35 News noticed errors in the state's report on positivity rates, the Florida Department of Health said that some laboratories have not been reporting negative test result data to the state.
Countless labs have reported a 100 percent positivity rate, which means every single person tested was positive. Other labs had very high positivity rates. FOX 35 News found that testing sites like one local Centra Care reported that 83 people were tested and all tested positive. Then, NCF Diagnostics in Alachua reported 88 percent of tests were positive.
How could that be? FOX 35 News investigated these astronomical numbers, contacting every local location mentioned in the report.
The report showed that Orlando Health had a 98 percent positivity rate. However, when FOX 35 News contacted the hospital, they confirmed errors in the report. Orlando Health's positivity rate is only 9.4 percent, not 98 percent as in the report.
The report also showed that the Orlando Veteran’s Medical Center had a positivity rate of 76 percent. A spokesperson for the VA told FOX 35 News on Tuesday that this does not reflect their numbers and that the positivity rate for the center is actually 6 percent.
FOX 35 News went on to speak with the Florida Department of Health on Tuesday. They confirmed that although private and public laboratories are required to report positive and negative results to the state immediately, some have not. Specifically, they said that some smaller, private labs were not reporting negative test result data to the state.
"The Department immediately began working with those labs to ensure that all results were being reported in order to provide comprehensive and transparent data," a spokesperson for the Florida Department of Health said. "As the state continues to receive results from various labs, the Department will continue educating these labs on proper protocol for reporting COVID-19 test results."
Florida is currently experiencing a surge in COVID-19 cases, reporting the state's daily reported cases have gone from about 2,000 a day a month ago to over 12,000. Then, on Tuesday, state health officials reported the largest single-day increase in deaths yet, as 132 more were announced.
Doctors had been predicting that a surge in deaths would follow Florida’s jump in daily reported cases. The growing caseload is partly driven by increased testing, but a larger percentage of tests are coming back positive, jumping from 6 percent a month ago to more than 18 percent.
Almost all people infected with coronavirus survive, but those who do succumb usually die two or more weeks after they are first diagnosed.
While Florida has broken national records for jumps in cases, the state's death toll is nowhere near the national record. When COVID-19 was ravaging New York three months ago, it recorded 799 deaths on April 9 and had a top seven-day average of 763 deaths on April 14. New York now has one of the nation’s lowest death rates per capita, recording 10 per day over the last week.

I only block those who aren’t interested in genuine, honest debate or those who are straight up trolls/a-holes. I may have to deal with those people at work/in life, but I don’t have to here. Life is enough stress to deal with, I don’t need to deal with “second life” BS on the Internet

I've seen this reply a few times by people who invented new mental gymnastics to support their view backed by an also incorrect example. Sometimes you're just wrong and there isn't a comprise to be made.
Interesting, I wonder how many more errors there are in other states hospitals?
The error they are referring to really doesn't change the total number of cases, just the percentage of positive vs negative results, which really is a statistic with worth very little. Cases vs population is more important, along with cases/deaths/hospitalizations.

It's akin to a salesman tactic. You pick a number or a percentage. Whatever sounds better

I’ve seen the opposite, where people cite “facts” and claim to be “right” yet are offering their own opinion, or the opinion of others as “facts.” I’ll happily admit to being wrong if proven so, but throwing snarky insults and “facts” while digging their heads in the sand is not debate.
So, like me and xclave (who I disagree with, and vice versa) have done, agree to disagree. Those unwilling to extend that courtesy - off to ignore land you go.

I agree! I gave up on P&R, they get all butt hurt because they don’t agree with you and notify you that your on ignore and I just laugh
It's actually this attitude that lands people on my ignore list. If I can't at least keep something civil, or agree to disagree like Cyko and xCLAVEx, or get past a speedbump in the conversation that has all of nothing to do with the conversation, there's no point in subjecting myself to that person's posts any more.
The assumption that people who use that function are "butt hurt" is really immature.

Snark doesn't automatically make information factually incorrect. I have no problem admitting I don't always have the best dilevery. The debates often ends because one party feels like they are in to deep on their opinion and to change course would somehow be determental to how they are viewed going forward. Pick a current climate and this is easily demonstrated

Ah ok, sorry but that’s not the way it works in P&R. The name calling there as long as it fits the agenda over there is perfectly ok I find when reading the nonsense there. immature please, thats nothing to what I read in P&R today.

I've been spending quite a bit of time in there lately, and while I don't read every thread I don't see this name calling towards members. Elected officials, people cited in articles yes, but that happens in the public forums as well.
Discussions do get heated at times, but that's the nature of the beast.
All that you need to keep in mind is information is literally correct until it conflicts. Then it's not literal anymore its now just a matter of the amount of incorrect herd usage one can garner support for.

Yeah, my bad. I added an extra zero by mistake. 780 million did seem kind of high.

I wouldn't be surprised if there are a lot of things that are off. The whole COVID mess has been a crash course in trying to get all this stuff up and running fast. Unfortunately, even if the positivity rate is lower than reported, the fact Florida ICUs are full says there's still a problem.

Bingo. While also reporting negatives is important (and something that needs to be remedied), not reporting them does not diminish the absolutely astonishing figures for positive cases. Cases are cases regardless of % of tests.
Cloth masks don't work as well as medical-grade versions, researchers say
“Rates of infection were consistently higher among those in the cloth mask group than in the medical mask and control groups. This finding suggests that risk for infection was higher for those wearing cloth masks,” they added.
“The mask tested was a locally manufactured, double-layered cotton mask. Participants were given five cloth masks for a 4-week study period and were asked to wash the masks daily with soap and water. The poor performance may have been because the masks were not washed frequently enough or because they became moist and contaminated.”
Cloth masks are better than nothing at protecting wearers and the people around them from disease, but they are not equivalent to medical-grade masks and shouldn’t be recommended for health care workers, researchers said Wednesday.

Cases are cases, sure... but the positivity rate in good theory is an indicator of how many are infected and not tested. Consider that the number of test kits in a given region is still finite.

It is up to everyone how they like to deal with it. I personally don’t care enough to go in and block people. But eventually I do start reading less of what they post. I do agree that some people post there with bad intent. It’s usually the same people trolling the same BS. I just ignore that stuff. Outrageous reaction is what they want. You don’t want your ban list to turn into a badge of honor for these trolls. That gives them too much power.
We've had a few at my job too again with things ramping back up. Maybe I'll get my hazard pay again now that everyone started coming back to the office just as we start semi shutting down again 😡
