I had the flu last week and it sucked. I can't imagine the pain he must have went through. Getting sick to the point of death while Being attacked by his own government and fearing for the well being of his family because he tried to act responsibly and save lives. That is truly depressing to see.

Wuhan is told to round up infected residents for mass quarantine camps.

A senior Chinese official has ordered the authorities in the city of Wuhan to immediately round up all residents who have been infected with the coronavirus and place them in isolation, quarantine or designated hospitals.

Sun Chunlan, a vice premier tasked with leading the central government’s response to the outbreak, said city investigators should go to each home to check the temperatures of every resident and interview infected patients’ close contacts.

“Set up a 24-hour duty system. During these wartime conditions, there must be no deserters, or they will be nailed to the pillar of historical shame forever,” Ms. Sun said.

China isn't the author of that GIS database page. John Hopkins University is. It doesn't seem unreasonable that they would update once a day (maybe twice). Reports from health services would be tallied at the end of the day, not real time.

It was updated three times a day until today when it has not been updated since 9am. I will continue to check it for a few more days, but it will be more than telling if by tomorrow morning it hasn't been updated then it will likely be because there is no further data...

The data sources for that GIS page are coming from 5 different agencies: WHO, CDC, European Center for Disease, and two Chinese Agencies (National Health Commission & DingXiangYuan). If China really clamps down on the info, you'll hear from the first three agencies.

Public airports with other traffic probably make a nasty place to try and quarantine folks. Military airports probably have some space to process/house them as well (even if it's just unused warehouse space or whatnot) and are going to be secure.






Even if put immediately in quarantine, it's probably nice for the people to be out of China and with a realistic timeframe of when they can actually go home.

DOD Statement - Flight Evacuations
Feb. 6, 2020

In support of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Department of Defense is prepared to receive two Department of State chartered evacuation flights from Wuhan, China currently scheduled to arrive on February 7th.

The initial flights have departed China for the United States with approximately 300 passengers on board. One of the aircraft will refuel at Travis Air Force Base and continue on to Omaha, Nebraska via Lackland Air Force Base. The other aircraft is en route to Marine Corps Air Station Miramar via Vancouver, Canada.

As previously announced, these individuals will be subject to a CDC managed 14-day quarantine.

DOD will work closely with our interagency partners and continue to provide support to the situation as requested.

Ideally, there could be several reasons behind the sudden spike. Nuclear plants, garbage, and animal carcass burning or the industrial areas could all be responsible.

But, the elevated levels of almost 1400 ug/m^3 could point towards mass crematoriums running overtime in these areas. For context, 80 ug/m^3 level is usually considered dangerously high.

Next in line was Chongquing, a megacity in southwestern China, with 800 ug/m^3. Coincidentally, Chongquing has also been severely affected by the coronavirus outbreak.

The Chinese government has shut down many major factories, coal-fuelled power plants, and manufacturing to curb the coronavirus outbreak. So there is little chance that they could be responsible for the rising levels.

And if you compare the levels to other parts of the world, where these plants are operational, the stark contrast is apparent.

That article mentions Chongquing as being the 2nd most affected city after Wuhan and yet the GIS page that Clave posted earlier shows Guangdong being second. In fact, Chongquing is number 9 with 473 cases compared to Wuhan's 29,631 cases and Guangdong's 1,159 cases (which is a smaller blip on the SO2 heat map).

Plus the guy doesnt even show previous data for comparison.

The true number of people infected with the deadly Wuhan coronavirus is more than 75,000, according to a scientific model, which claims the official number for those infected is far too low.

Academics at the University of Hong Kong published a paper on Friday in The Lancet, a prestigious medical journal, estimating the rate at which the virus is spreading.

It used official data on the number of infections to calculate what it said was the true extent of the disease — almost 100 times the official figures.

Underpinning the analysis is the idea that the number of international cases is disproportionately high given the number of people who travel from Wuhan to other countries.

The academics used the international figures to reverse-engineer a total for the number of cases among greater Wuhan's population of around 19 million.

They said that, as of January 25, they estimated that the number of cases was 75,815.

According to CNN, the official total on January 25 for the whole of Hubei province, which includes greater Wuhan, was 761, barely 1% of the total projected by the scientists.

The paper is not the first to suggest that the official figures do not adequately capture the scope of the outbreak. A paper from Imperial College London published on January 17 suggested that the figures were too low by a factor of 35.

As part of their model, the Hong Kong academics predicted that the scale of the virus would double every 6.4 days. By that logic, the number of people in greater Wuhan with the virus as of this Friday (January 31) would be 151,630.

The official number of cases on January 31 was less than 10,000. The number increased to around 12,000 as of February 1 local time.

The authors of the study said they had taken into account the effect of the dramatic lockdown imposed on Wuhan and surrounding cities last week.

However, they said that its overall effectiveness would be "negligible" given that a critical mass of cases had already been observed in several other cities.

In a meeting on Thursday, the World Health Organization declared the coronavirus outbreak a global health emergency.

On Friday, the US government announced a ban on any foreigner entering the country within 14 days of being in mainland China. It said US citizens would be allowed to enter but placed in quarantine.

Their model makes more sense than what we are being told. It is important to keep an open mind here folks as the low numbers we are being told just does not make sense. Keep in mind this was back in January.

They have everything to gain by keeping the real numbers out of the public as their economy is already taking a hit just based on what has been released. Simple logic and common sense can go a long way here...

I have 3 mainlanders on my team -- they live in Canada now but all three say 40k is laughable. China is so dense in any city things like this spread like wildfire and it's bad press...so these numbers are ultra conservative.

I agree it may be higher but what Clave isnt telling you is that he believes the death count is already 100k+. The two of us have already discussed this outside of Rage but he is taking any fringe story and giving it more credence than trustworthy agencies.

What I actually said was I believe over 100k are infected but I do believe the actual dead are much higher, but not in the 100k range. Learn to comprehend what you read and not what you think you read.
