Boris Johnson is allegedly not on a ventilator, but I have a feeling that that is a lie. Unless I am missing something, being moved to the ICU as a "precaution" does not pass the sniff test. Perhaps someone with medical or hospital experience could weigh in?

U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson is in intensive care in a London hospital with COVID-19, officials said on Monday, one day after Johnson was admitted to the hospital with persistent symptoms of the coronavirus.

Johnson was the first world leader to test positive for the coronavirus on March 27.

“Over the course of this afternoon, the condition of the prime minister has worsened and, on the advice of his medical team, he has been moved to the intensive care unit at the hospital,” a spokesperson said.

The Prime Minister is reportedly conscious and the decision was taken as a precaution in case he needs ventilation.

While Johnson continues to lead the government, Monday’s cabinet meeting was headed up by Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab, who Johnson has nominated to deputize for him “where necessary,” a spokesperson said. Raab is also reportedly Johnson’s “designated survivor,” and would take over the Prime Minister’s duties if Johnson is incapacitated.

The Dutch health ministry said last week it had to recall 600,000 masks shipped from China on March 21 because they were faulty.

China even required Italy, which is one of the countries hardest hit by the pandemic, to buy back a supply of protective clothing it gave China in the early days of the outbreak.

Specifically, the Rutgers Cancer scientists are researching if the combination of the two, azithromycin combined with hydroxychloroquine, is better for covid-19 than simply hydroxychloroquine alone.

The clinical trial started this past Friday, April 3. It will enroll 160 covid-19 patients currently being treated at Rutgers Cancer Institute, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, and University Hospital in Newark.

I read that blue shop towels actually work pretty well. Especially when combined with the fabric masks. I've got an N95, but she doesn't like to wear it.

I had to go to lowes today to get a part for our toilet. Stupid flapper broke. Almost everyone there had on something which was good to see. One dude just had a bandanna over his face bank robbery style.

Most of the articles about this points to the same source. The authors wrote it like it's a matter of fact but without any kind of source from whomever is affected. The impression I get is the authors didn't do any leg work and just parroting someone else. Look at the NYtimes quote for an example, It just says "Many in Itay". I can't help but ask what kind of people? Government officials, health officials/ Hospital workers, Italian citizen, what? It so vague where the complaint is coming from. Not one of the articles gave an explanation of who represent the complainant.

IMO any report or article that cites unnamed sources should be completely ignored. To me, "sources say", "someone who doesn't want to be named says" or "experts say" is code for "I pulled this quote out of my ass, based on my own biases". That probably disqualifies a huge % of news reports, but color me jaded.

Fair enough. In which case we will wait and see if more reports begin to surface given time, though I could see Italian news sources to be reluctant to bite the hand that is feeding them (even if they are being price gouged) at the moment...assuming any reporters over there aren't currently sick.

Was at Home Depot to pick up some BR40 bulbs as the last one in the kitchen burnt out leaving us no choice. Less people there were wearing masks compared to Kroger's that's only a block away. These cheap light changing sticks suck, half your turns end up undoing the stick. Ended up collapsing the thing all they way and taping it up so nothing twists and getting up on a ladder.

One report I saw said theres basically only a 20% chance of survival if you need a respirator. While those odds are pretty bad it is saving 20% of those who require this.

Russia seems to be in the growth phase, 19% more cases today. Seems like it might be a few more days of that too given lockdown dates.

Good news: Spain, Italy, Germany are all showing sustained drop in daily cases. Only Germany is showing a rise in deaths, which may be related to them taking patients from other countries (do they count them?). Spain and Italy have a drop in daily deaths.

France's cases/deaths are all over the place, but they may be slowing too.

There are some positive signs but I suspect there will be a few peaks to this outbreak as other regions get infected (e.g. Africa / India). Possibly sustained levels for a few weeks.

FYI: The reason you're hearing the U.S. President promote hydroxychloroquine over the objections and recommendations against this by healthcare professionals is because he has a financial interest in the manufacturer of this drug. Same with several key White House administration officials, who coordinate political messaging with Faux News.

Basically, yes this is straying into P&R but the President won't stop hyping up this drug. Whether it's political or not is irrelevant because this is a public health crisis. Be aware that the only reason this drug treatment keeps being pushed by administration officials in the U.S. is due to profit motives.

As of last year, Mr. Trump reported that his three family trusts each had investments in a Dodge & Cox mutual fund, whose largest holding was in Sanofi.

Ashleigh Koss, a Sanofi spokeswoman, said the company no longer sells or distributes Plaquenil in the United States, although it does sell it internationally.

Several generic drugmakers are gearing up to produce hydroxychloroquine pills, including Amneal Pharmaceuticals, whose co-founder Chirag Patel is a member of Trump National Golf Course Bedminster in New Jersey and has golfed with Mr. Trump at least twice since he became president, according to a person who saw them.

It may turn out that this drug does prove to be a successful treatment for Covid-19, but we should wait for health experts to confirm this and recommend it as a treatment. Not a President and White House administration that is motivated by profit over saving lives.

Why not let the people who are badly sick try this and see if it works? There is technically only anecdotal evidence so far, but there is a MOUNTAIN of it piling up. Studies take years and many of the sick don't have that long, what have they got to lose at this point if it's available?
