Just ran the numbers and the current mortality rate for the official count of infected is 3.9%! That is VERY, VERY high."Ok to lose to opponent, must not lose to fear!"

Exactly how deadly COVID-19 is remains up in the air. Limited testing and undetected cases — people with no symptoms or ones so mild they don’t seek medical attention — make it hard to pin down how many are infected. And that number is crucial for calculating the ratio of people who may die from COVID-19.
Enter the Diamond Princess cruise ship. Quarantined at sea off Japan after a passenger tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, the ship became a natural data lab where nearly everyone was tested and few cases of infection were missed.
Infections and deaths onboard suggest that the disease’s true fatality ratio in China is about 0.5 percent, though that number may vary from place to place, researchers report March 9 in a paper posted at MedRxiv.org.
That 0.5 percent is far less than the 3.4 percent of confirmed cases that end in death cited by the World Health Organization, but troubling nonetheless. The WHO’s number has come under fire because the true number of people infected with the virus worldwide is not known.

Well the lockdown has really gotten underway here in the Bay area. Everything is closed now, except grocery stores and a few other things. Apparently you can now be arrested for non-essential traveling, although I doubt that will be enforced.Originally posted by KACTo be honest I never even found doom 3 to be scary since I have a big dick since birth.

Doesn't the CDC page about the virus even say exactly what to do and not to contact medical help unless you have trouble breathing or other major issues? There's probably tons of people not showing much in symptoms or just not bad enough to go in and riding it out at home. They aren't even counted at all.

Well, think of it like this... the people are wanting to buy enough so that they don't have to go into your potentially covid-infested store again for another couple of months. It doesn't have to be "panic" to make them want a lot of goods.
That said, all it takes is a single government order to make it impossible to go to the store at all... in that respect, I can't say I blame them.A hobbiest foundry and forge in progress, plans, suppliers, showcasing ideas

The panic buying is really self-reinforcing. People that are relatively calm see that toilet paper (and other stuff) is out of stock all the time. So they make it their mission to buy it whenever it is available because they can't be sure it will be there when they try again.
But also people are stocking up for 2-4 weeks of food so they don't have to go as often, which is smart. So many people doing this all at once is bound to create supply issues. I started buying a few extra things a few weeks before it got crazy down here.

Have a friend who I haven't seen for a while. Him and his family rarely get sick. All 3 of them became sick a few days ago. They went to the doctor today.. supposably all 3 have upper respiratory infections all getting it at the same time? Where they tested for the coronavirus.. nope.. told they can all go back to work tomorrow unless they get a fever.I speak my mind! if you can't handle that, you might want to leave, because **** is going to get real!!

Good job Taiwan
Basically the virus hit the wrong demo in SK and the right demo in Italy. Oh and all that testing helped. Oh only less than 5% of women smoke in SK where the smokers are more even between the sexes in Italy, there's a lot in the article to unpack so have at it.

Def Taiwan was proactive and got out in front with testing and quarantine of those sick whereas both US and Canada are about 6-8 weeks behind Taiwans efforts so now mitigation will have to follow a different probably more draconian route.
We found out NB here has about 400 respirators for the entire province and the company that sells them says they are still waiting for orders. NS next door ordered an extra 140. To about 600 but still way too little for what is expected.

Iran people better get serious
If Iranians cooperate with government guidelines now, 12,000 are likely to die.
If they cooperate in a limited way, 110,000 are likely to die.
If there is no cooperation the outbreak is likely to peak in June and cause 3.5 million deaths.

The Outer Banks have been closed off. My parents have a trip planned there for the end of April (been booked for months since last year). Hopefully it opens back up before then.
