What you said in your second paragraph is basically what the doctor told me. If my flu test had come back negative, I would have had to move forward under the assumption that I had COVID-19. Self-isolation, rest, drink plenty of fluids, etc., just as you said in one of your previous posts.
I do live in the United States, and I did ask for a coronavirus test. In fact, I was very clear about wanting one.
From what I understand, the clinic called their hospital (they are both part of one system), and the hospital called the state health department for their approval to have the test run at the state lab. The state health department denied their request. Please note that this was not an insurance denial. It did not even get to that point.I speak my mind! if you can't handle that, you might want to leave, because **** is going to get real!!

Why not something that will actually have a measurable effect on the virus's spread?
We can still book a flight to South Korea and they had a larger outbreak for a longer time.Desktop: Intel Core i7 7770k : 16GB EVGA DDR4 2400 : Gigabyte GTX 1070 Ti Windforce X2 : Gigabyte GA-H270-WIFI : AudioQuest DragonFly DAC : Samsung SM961 NVMe 1TB SSD : Corsair Builder 500W PSU : Samsung 1440p 32" Monitor : Klipsch Promedia 2.1 : Windows 10 Pro x64

But that's only been in the last week. South Korea's outbreak happened weeks ago, is still prevalent (though dramatic efforts to quarantine, notify, and test have been pretty effective), and we can still hop on a cheap flight and fly into or out of there with no issue?
A travel ban isn't a bad measure, a ban targeting Europe specifically really doesn't have any value. If you're still going to let people from the UK in, or from the middle east, or from known hotspots, you're plugging a hole in your boat while it fills with water from the other half of it being missing.
What the US needs now is government lead quarantine and testing efforts. In some limited capacity states and municipalities are doing this, but it would be much easier to implement and much easier to recover from financially (since all this closing is massive loss of business and income) if this was federally mandated and there was federal funding to ameliorate it.
I won't go any further into P&R, but this is a more a matter of epidemiology: quarantines work because people can't be trusted to quarantine themselves when they have symptoms, because people won't always notice or properly attribute symptoms, or because the disease can be communicable without any symptoms showing (I don't know if this is the case with COVID-19). A travel ban isn't really going to do anything with a thousand active cases internally.Desktop: Intel Core i7 7770k : 16GB EVGA DDR4 2400 : Gigabyte GTX 1070 Ti Windforce X2 : Gigabyte GA-H270-WIFI : AudioQuest DragonFly DAC : Samsung SM961 NVMe 1TB SSD : Corsair Builder 500W PSU : Samsung 1440p 32" Monitor : Klipsch Promedia 2.1 : Windows 10 Pro x64

So best forecasts now are settling in at a 0.6% mortality rate, and that somewhere between 40-70% of the population will be infected.
Assuming 50% of the human population gets infected, and 0.6% dies, that's just over 22 million deaths. That's a big number.Originally posted by KACTo be honest I never even found doom 3 to be scary since I have a big dick since birth.

Martial law is a specific thing that has been used to combat this virus but which hasn't been suggested in the US. It would only be necessary if people weren't complying with restrictions or weren't able to comply.
I'm talking CDC level, FEMA level, etc. The federal government has plenty of arms it can stretch to assist states, municipalities, or whoever, and it's not stepping up to the plate. If we want to keep the outbreak's size in the US in the low thousands, banning international travel to one region on flights at only 10% capacity is going to do nearly nothing, while declaring that there was going to be support from a federal level, diverting federal emergency funds, or even just calling on states and municipalities to act and to act decisively. Plenty of them are still waiting, are still hung up on details of how to implement things, or are ignoring it altogether because it hasn't shown up nearby. A little leadership and practical assurance from the top would go a long way to spur on action. Emphasizing hygiene and minimizing gatherings is a start, at least.Desktop: Intel Core i7 7770k : 16GB EVGA DDR4 2400 : Gigabyte GTX 1070 Ti Windforce X2 : Gigabyte GA-H270-WIFI : AudioQuest DragonFly DAC : Samsung SM961 NVMe 1TB SSD : Corsair Builder 500W PSU : Samsung 1440p 32" Monitor : Klipsch Promedia 2.1 : Windows 10 Pro x64

We are a little screwed, this has come at the worst time. Our visas are expiring in October and we found out my wife is pregnant and will be due in October and we need to go back to South Africa to renew our visas but of course we don’t want to fly when she is too far along. We booked our flights for the 22nd of March so getting a little stressed here.“A common mistake people make, when trying to design something completely foolproof, is to underestimate ingenuity of complete fools” - Douglas Adams

Depends on whether or not you believe their official reporting.
I do, at least in this regard. Their quarantine measures were unprecedented scale and speed and were enforced with effectively martial law very soon after they were announced.
Yeah, they were too late to stop the spread to other nations, but they are an example of how decisive quarantining can be effective.
Whether or not you believe their total number of cases and deaths, you can believe the downward trend because stuff in China really is beginning to normalize.Desktop: Intel Core i7 7770k : 16GB EVGA DDR4 2400 : Gigabyte GTX 1070 Ti Windforce X2 : Gigabyte GA-H270-WIFI : AudioQuest DragonFly DAC : Samsung SM961 NVMe 1TB SSD : Corsair Builder 500W PSU : Samsung 1440p 32" Monitor : Klipsch Promedia 2.1 : Windows 10 Pro x64

Any tangible news on the vaccine stuff? So how do people get treatment from this virus? What were being done to the patients that recovered? Most news in the world only talk about the spread and patient numbers.I guess it's the trend nowdays with games; either you are a hardcore PC GAME, or you live long enough to see yourself become a console port

Mortality rate is 3% ~ 4% globally. Not .6%. In Italy it is currently setting at just about 5% mainly due to their older population.
So, 7.7 billion people. 1/2 infected. Mortality rate at 3% is 115.5 million people. Mortality rate at 4% is 154 million people.
In the US with 352 million people at a 1/2 infection rate. Mortality at 3% is 5,280,000. At 4% it is 7,040,000.
Most places are still saying it's right at 3.4% globally. At those numbers with 1/2 becoming infected the mortality number globally is 130,900,000. In the US it would be 5,984,000 people....
The infection rate could be higher than 1/2. I don't think they have a good handle on that number yet. What is bad is that we have never faced this kind of virus before so there are very little natural immunity like we have with the flu. Most of us at one point or another has had the flu. Our bodies remember that and fight it off. That is not the case with covid19. So the infection rate could be much higher than 1/2 of the population. The nice thing is that kids seem to be missed in this whole thing. They can get it and not be very sick from it. The older you go the more likely it is that you have complications from it. Which is why Italy's numbers are so high...

How blood plasma from recovered patients could help treat the new coronavirus
When it comes to creating treatments for Covid-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, the first line of defense may be a century-old technology: purified blood plasma.
Medical literature published during the Spanish flu pandemic of 1918 includes case reports describing how transfusions of blood products obtained from survivors may have contributed to a 50% reduction in death among severely ill patients. In 1934, a measles outbreak at a Pennsylvania boarding school was halted when serum harvested from the first infected student was used to treat 62 fellow students. Only three of the 62 students developed measles — all mild cases.
More recently, plasma-derived therapy was used to treat patients during outbreaks of Ebola and avian flu. And on Wednesday the Japanese drugmaker Takeda Pharmaceutical Co. said it was developing a new coronavirus drug derived from the blood plasma of people who have recovered from Covid-19. Its approach is based on the idea that antibodies developed by recovered patients might strengthen the immune system of new patients.
this may not stop it but may lower the death rate a lot
