As long as we have too many unvaccinated who havent caught covid then any version of covid can make a comeback. If we get another breather its just another lucky, very lucky this time, opportunity to get the shot.

Else there will be more waves. Not sure we can use SA as a good example of what will happen here. They are going into their summer and while they have a large population thats unvaxxed Im not sure we can test sufficiently to know whats going on.

Anyone know how long before it peaks? Seems like omicron will peak quickly then die off much sooner than Delta so any new restrictions dont last as long.

Seeing as it appears to cause less severe and mild covid symptoms.

On the plus side, as fast as this thing is spreading, it seemingly "overwrites" Delta and gives you good protection from it.

I'll prob get it next week when the kids go back to school. Gimmie now or wait until after MLK weekend. I don't want to miss the yearly boy's trip.

I'm boosted, so if it kills me. It was my time.

Wife tested positive. She is triple vaccinated. Now getting ourselves tested.

I have a runny nose (not stuffy, I can breathe fine) and slightly scratchy throat; could be a cold or Omicron...

Seems the new flu virus is also being marked up in PCR tests.

Apparently I've picked up Covid on my vacation to visit family. Wife and daughter are testing negative, and three of the people I visited with are negative also. So, I'm the lucky one.

Currently just sniffles and a slight headache and minor cough. Without the test, I'd assume a normal cold.

just remember PCR test is the only way to know for sure.
I"m certain me and my son got covid from my wife, but we keep testing negative on the rapid antigen tests.

We've got a family trip to Hawaii scheduled for late January. I'm really concerned that we may have to cancel the trip, in the case that someone gets sick this month... our trip is scheduled at the projected peak of the outbreak.

So far nobody's sick, but kids start school again this week. Is it wrong for me to consider keeping my kids out of school for 3 weeks, so we don't spoil our travel plans?

We're all vaccinated in my family. I got my booster last week, and my wife's booster is scheduled for later this week. I don't think kids have been approved for boosters yet. I'm still very nervous about someone getting sick before we travel. I kindof wish we could all get omicron right now, so we'd be recovered before traveling. If everyone's going to get it eventually, I wish we could just get it over with.

Seems a bit extreme to me. Not sure how their schools are but if my 7th grader son was out 3 weeks he'd miss a ton of work and be very far behind.

How are you feeling? I've heard some folks just had a runny nose, then others have said it was 3-4 days of feeling like crap.

If we have to cancel the trip, I suppose my wife and I could probably go another time, but I doubt we'd be able to take the kids. In many ways, this trip feels like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. We're going with my in-laws, who are both 70+, and we really are getting to the last part of their life where they'll be able to do something like this.

Also, I don't really put much stock in early education . I was a very smart kid, had terrible grades in middle school and high school. It's questionable whether I even graduated, and my parents were very worried about my future prospects. Fast-forward a few years, I completed an advanced degree at a top-rated university (Carnegie Mellon, if you're wondering), and my career has turned out just fine (or better). The only real problems I had with my academic performance early on were caused by unnecessary pressure from my teachers and parents who kept telling me I'd never amount to anything if I didn't get good grades. My life experiences factor strongly into how I prioritize (or not) my kids' education at school. There's alot more to life than what they're going to learn in the next 3 weeks of school and assignments.

I do agree that its a bit extreme to consider taking my kids out of school just to avoid cancelling a vacation, or at least a bit unconventional thinking. The main reason I'm even thinking about it, is that projections for Omicron really do seem to suggest that the majority of the population may be getting sick at the exact time that we're traveling... there's an incredibly strong probability that at least one of my 3 kids is going to pick it up in school. Honestly I think it's a stronger than 50% chance that we'll have to cancel vacation.

Some schools are delaying the return to in-person classes to limit the spread of Omicron. Omicron is everywhere, so I understand the desire to keep isolated before traveling to avoid infection. That said, Omicron is in Hawaii too, so there's a decent chance you could get it there, possibly being unable to fly back home on schedule. My parents are gone now, but they also wanted to have the whole family join them in Hawaii, but were too frail to make it happen before they died, so I get the once-in-a-lifetime idea....

My state's info is saying a 36% daily positivity rate in testing, and PCR tests are backed up a week or more for results.

On Tuesday I noticed my sense of taste was dulled, and I went and canceled things and took an at home antigen test. Test was negative, subsequent test was negative, but PCR wasn't available until after the isolation period anyways. Haven't had any symptoms since, and none of the people I was with in the two days before have it, so while I had to cancel a bunch of plans, if I actually had it, it was as mild a case as could be hoped.

One of the reasons this is spreading so fast, is because vaccinated folks may not even know they have it. There's no tests available at least around here. So people don't even know they should quarantine for five days. Probably for the best though. Herd immunity will be a thing soon.

And there is the also fact that most of the country is doing nothing to prevent spread. Could you imagine this happening last year?

Hopefully Omicron is as mild as people expect for those that have natural or vaccinated immunity. Those that don’t have either are the red meat that will fuel hospitalizations. Hopefully the numbers will be small enough not to overwhelm the system.

I can’t beg borrow or steal a test around here. 100+ fever, head and muscle joint aches since yesterday afternoon.

We’re seeing spikes in covid around here, and they just shut down one of the largest testing sites yesterday with no explanation. The other major site here told me they only test asymptomatic people, which just confuses the heck out of me.

Appointments at local pharmacy type stores are all a 1 week wait, but hopefully I’ll be able to score at least a rapid test by Wednesday, or so I’m being told.

we're seeing Omicron spikes already, although not that massive as in the states.

Hope you're scoring a test or two, my friend. Also hope you're back on yer feet in no time. Take care.

By the time you can get a test here, you'll be over it. People that won't get vaccinated, and are required to take regular tests for work are begging for them online.

I think my favorite reply to one of those posts was, "There's no wait to get vaccinated."

So essentially sites are just saying go to the hospital or just ride it out, then get tested after symptoms are gone.

                                                              Okay then.

Even in Switzerland there was no 24 hour drive through Covid testing center. It really amazes me how much UAE has progressed and how simple things are here.

I hope you get your testing done. But the antigen/rapid tests don’t have the authenticity of a full PCR. And given the recent event with my wife I am also a bit surprised on how she tested positive and I tested negative even though we were next to each other all day long and only difference is my sample was taken 24 hours after hers.

Best of luck to everyone. Covid is terrible and I hope none of us or anyone on this planet gets this anymore. I am ready for pandemic to be over.

There's no tests available at least around here. So people don't even know they should quarantine for five days. Probably for the best though. Herd immunity will be a thing soon.

The baby so far is fine. Kid came out of his Momma like a mini Thor. Kids like 12lbs in his second week.

My son is fine, had a cough for a few days and my Father-In-Law while he was here tested negative twice on the home kit.

Crazy thing is, the COVID App on my Wife's phone alerted her that she had been in contact with someone with COVID four days prior when she was at the mall. That App hasn't said a peep to us in two years. Now in one week, she got two hits.
