Holy crap you guys hit close 500 000 cases today. France 200k... some others super high counts as well...
You could probably reach 1 million cases a day before Jan at this rate. Downside? Covid. Upside? At this rate its over in a month or 2. Well by 'over' lets just hope its just the technical possibility of anymore cases. At all.I talked to the tree. Thats why they put me away!..." Peter Sellers, The Goon Show

Well, just found out my brother Alex and his wife are sick with COVID. They have their shots, but they got a newborn at home. Fevers around 101 for them, but it looks like they are on the mend. My brother didn't get the booster, they live in Florida.
My Sister-in-Law tested positive on the 26th, so my parents and my other brother Adam and his family are waiting to see if they have symptoms. They all got together for Christmas.
Meanwhile, at home in Virginia, my little one has been sick the last three days, no fever, cold symptoms and now my Father-In-Law who's visiting been sick too. I tested him this morning with a home test and it came out negative.
This pandemic is just so much fun.

Darn, wife just tested positive via PCR test.
As a health care worker, she was boosted but still got it. Her patients are all in their 80s, 90s, and even some in the century mark (she works in the veteran ward of Sunnybrook hospital).
I tested negative via the rapid antigen, but I"m assuming I'm positive (that test is way less sensitive).
She had a mild sore throat and just felt off.
I got my booster last week and maybe my body was already in fight mode.
Anyways, what a way to start the new year.Take what you want...and then pay for it...

Damn, ya'll dropping like flies
I may have gotten it? I'm 2 days in from being near someone that tested positive. I feel completely normal (have not received booster yet), but I will find out in 3 days as I have to get tested at my five day mark. I'm currently in a pseudo-isolation but still operating..Originally posted by curioEat this protein bar, for it is of my body. And drink this creatine shake, for it is my blood.

Omicron might be a small blessing in terms of wildfire spread, but with low(er) impact.....my wife and I are ultimately inconvenienced by the 5 day quarantine, but the thought she could have spread to her patients terrifies her (she's been off on holidays long enough where that is not a concern)...
but my brother's mother-in-law who is a tough as nails 70 year old was very vaccine hesitant and only got her first dose a month ago.... she's got covid now and not getting better...her blood oxygen levels are dropping and she might be soon in the ICU if it gets worse.
covid ain't no jokeTake what you want...and then pay for it...

Went home for Christmas, my mom still hadn't gotten her booster (she originally had J&J, and when it was clear that J&J wasn't dealing with Delta properly I implored her to get a Pfizer or Moderna booster... multiple times.)
She'd blown off appointments other people made for her a couple of times alreadyh. When back for christmas, tried again and this time my wife drive her there and got it done.
Daughter got a stomach bug of some sort there, but no COVID, so that's good. All in all, no one's got it yet, though since we were flying, lets give it a couple of days and see if the travel gave it to us on the way home.A hobbiest foundry and forge in progress, plans, suppliers, showcasing ideas

Half of my friends have it now, and they're all vaxed. All mild cases. It's coming. I expect to get it next week when the kids go back to school. Either bring it then or after MLK weekend.
I don't want to miss my yearly boy's trip to the mountains. None of them have it yet, except for the two that already had it.

So omicron spiking the everliving **** here.
Anyone know how long before it peaks? Seems like omicron will peak quickly then die off much sooner than Delta so any new restrictions dont last as long.
Seeing as it appears to cause less severe and mild covid symptoms.
On the plus side, as fast as this thing is spreading, it seemingly "overwrites" Delta and gives you good protection from it.------Squachbox 2022------

I don't think I got it. I haven't had any symptoms. No booster, was vaccinated w/ 2nd shot in April (Pfizer), so I'd assume my antibodies would be low by now. I was in very close proximity with no masks while working with the person who tested positive for over 16hrs.

Read an article the other day that's encouraging about immune response and makes sense.
Two different immune responses happen from an infection. Antibodies prevent the virus from being able to invade the cells at all by mucking up their latch points. Antibodies are the means by which you get the "90% immune" or "asymptomatic" scenarios... virus can't get a real foothold to replicate quickly. This is similar to (but not the same as) the anti-viral drugs that are coming out in reducing the cell infection rate. Unfortunately, over time the body stops devoting resources to making antibodies if they aren't actively needed. (I'd speculate this is partly responsible for the seasonal nature of the flu too... wave passes, body defenses go complacent over the summer, then we get hit the next winter.)
So that's where the T cells come in... these are the active seek-and-destroy cells which actually kill off virus infections that it comes across. This response is much longer term (original SARs infections still had a T cell defense 10 years later.) T cells also notify the body that the antibodies are needed again and to crank up production.
So, the upshot... if we're perpetually bombarded by Omicron, then Covid antibodies will stay high and it'll have a hard time getting significant footholds. South Africa seems to have turned the corner and cases are now dropping rapidly, at a faster rate than previous infections.
South Africa has lifted overnight curfew rules, with officials saying the country may have passed the peak of its fourth wave of Covid-19 infections.
A government statement said the Omicron variant, while highly transmissible, had seen lower hospitalisation rates than previous waves.
There had been a marginal increase in the number of deaths, it added.A hobbiest foundry and forge in progress, plans, suppliers, showcasing ideas
