I have long covid. My sense of smell has not been the same since I recovered. Things still smell like burnt eggs frequently and many meat items have a similar taste. I've gotten used to it by now, but I still notice it.

Dude that's terrible. I hope it eventually goes away.

The vaccine has been known to correct long covid issues so make sure to get it. Many who have had the infection think they dont need the vaccine but it can still be quite beneficial.

That's odd food tastes bland to me after Covid. Nothing and I mean nothing has any taste. Or it could just be me getting older. They say you lose your sense of taste as you age. Whatever it is it sucks!

I got the vaccine months ago.

As more people get vaccinated against COVID-19, a surprise discovery has been that vaccines seem to provide some relief for some patients with what’s being called “long COVID.” A prominent Yale researcher is working with colleagues to launch what she predicts will be a large collaborative study to learn more.
What about the impact of vaccines in people who already have long COVID? A UK survey of more than 800 people with long COVID, which has not been peer reviewed, reported in May that 57% saw an overall improvement in their symptoms, 24% no change and 19% a deterioration after their first dose of vaccine12. In April, Akrami’s team launched a systematic survey to shed more light. “People need to get vaccinated to come out of the pandemic, but we need to first address their concern of whether the vaccine is going to help, or not harm, or [be] harmful.”
Not a silver bullet but if I had long covid Id give it a shot pun intended...

Part of the study discusses the information in the title about antibody levels. But there were some interesting parts about transmission and vaccination:
Importantly, in all cases for which there were relevant data, the source of the breakthrough infection was thought to be an unvaccinated person. In fact, more than half of those who developed a breakthrough infection appeared to have become infected from an unvaccinated member of their own household.
Other cases were suspected to arise from exposure to an unvaccinated coworker or patient. Contact tracing found no evidence that any of the 39 health care workers with a breakthrough infection passed it on to anyone else.
I don't think the vaccine can help you with that small pen0s, sorry.
Bah, didn't even notice the auto correct when I typed that on my phone wtf. Been pulling 14 hours, then 12 hour shift, then half day on Saturday, then another 11 hours, then 10 hours, and who knows how long I'll be at the office today.
I need rest.

well i have had two shots of pfizer vaccine in April and then had the Chipotle Delta covid in August with a side Monoclonal antibodies at that time
they will have to show me good proof and not just some mouthpiece tv doctors word i need more shots before i rush out for more
Between the vaccine and your own anti-bodies, you're about as protected as protected can be. Especially against future variants.
I'm telling you guys watch the science on this change in the coming months where they tell folks to get the vaccine to save your life, then go out and contract COVID.
The best defense against future variants is to get the disease and produce antigens for the other 27 proteins that the vaccine doesn't cover.
What would be even more interesting if there's new guidance about Vitamin D and those folks with darker skin that suffer from that production. Like my Wife, who was just diagnosed with low vitamin D and is taking prescribed supplement now.

Some vaccines may cover more proteins than others they said moderna has a leg up in some ways but didnt say how as thats probably a secret ip. Also Id expect reformulated vaccines that targets more recent variants next year. Better that than catching it if your vulnerable.

I was under the assumption that all current RNA vaccines target only the spike protein?

Yea not sure we can find out if both MRNA vaccines target the same spike protein and it maybe due to the fact Moderna went with a higher dose than Pfizer, 100 micrograms vs 30.
How three Covid-19 vaccines — from Pfizer, Moderna, and J&J — stack up against one another.
The primary series of both the Moderna and the Pfizer vaccines is two shots: a priming dose, followed by a booster shot. The interval between Moderna doses is 28 days; for the Pfizer vaccine, it’s 21 days.
Each dose of Pfizer’s contains 30 micrograms of vaccine. Moderna went with a much larger dose of vaccine, 100 micrograms. It means the company is using a little more than three times as much vaccine per person as Pfizer is. While Moderna’s initial results didn’t seem to justify the much larger dose, data suggest the protection the company’s vaccine generates is declining at a slower rate than Pfizer’s is; some experts believe the higher dose may be at least partially responsible.

Unvaccinated people who had survived a previous COVID-19 infection were more than five times more likely to be reinfected with the virus compared to those who were fully vaccinated with the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, according to a new study published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
That's very interesting as I was under the impression natural immunity is better and lasts longer!
Background Reports of waning vaccine-induced immunity against COVID-19 have begun to surface. With that, the comparable long-term protection conferred by previous infection with SARS-CoV-2 remains unclear.
Methods We conducted a retrospective observational study comparing three groups: (1)SARS-CoV-2-naïve individuals who received a two-dose regimen of the BioNTech/Pfizer mRNA BNT162b2 vaccine, (2)previously infected individuals who have not been vaccinated, and (3)previously infected and single dose vaccinated individuals. Three multivariate logistic regression models were applied. In all models we evaluated four outcomes: SARS-CoV-2 infection, symptomatic disease, COVID-19-related hospitalization and death. The follow-up period of June 1 to August 14, 2021, when the Delta variant was dominant in Israel.
Results SARS-CoV-2-naïve vaccinees had a 13.06-fold (95% CI, 8.08 to 21.11) increased risk for breakthrough infection with the Delta variant compared to those previously infected, when the first event (infection or vaccination) occurred during January and February of 2021. The increased risk was significant ( P <0.001) for symptomatic disease as well. When allowing the infection to occur at any time before vaccination (from March 2020 to February 2021), evidence of waning natural immunity was demonstrated, though SARS-CoV-2 naïve vaccinees had a 5.96-fold (95% CI, 4.85 to 7.33) increased risk for breakthrough infection and a 7.13-fold (95% CI, 5.51 to 9.21) increased risk for symptomatic disease. SARS-CoV-2-naïve vaccinees were also at a greater risk for COVID-19-related-hospitalizations compared to those that were previously infected.
Conclusions This study demonstrated that natural immunity confers longer lasting and stronger protection against infection, symptomatic disease and hospitalization caused by the Delta variant of SARS-CoV-2, compared to the BNT162b2 two-dose vaccine-induced immunity. Individuals who were both previously infected with SARS-CoV-2 and given a single dose of the vaccine gained additional protection against the Delta variant.

sorry i think any more the CDC only says what they are told to say by the politicos
true or not and they have contradicted themselves too many times
]So which source do you prefer to get your facts from[/B]? I think I already know, but I would like you to come out and say it, just to have it on record.
Scientists and medical experts change their minds based on new evidence. This is not a sign of weakness or politicization; it is how rational people operate when new information is discovered. Little was known about SARS‐CoV‐2 at the outset of the pandemic, so the recommendations of health authorities have changed as they have gained new knowledge about means of infection and spread. This aspect of changing public health recommendations based on new evidence is a feature, not a bug...
My world is a world of concepts and principles, not a battlefield - "war" is simply the wrong metaphor for where I'm coming from.
The last few posts are a great example of why I rarely bother to enter these discussions any more.
First we dealt with astonishment that people could actually take facebook and YouTube random posts as “truth” over medical experts.
We got, and still get angry over people who refuse to simply inform themselves and take advantage of a life saving vaccine.
Now, apparently, we have someone who, like many, has been through COVID-19 hell, is reading research papers and listening to his doctor, and keyboard warriors who are not doctors themselves attack for doing what they said he should be doing all along.
I don’t always agree with 12bass, but he’s 100% correct here. We’re (the professionals) are still figuring this out, and taking into account new information as it becomes available. And Fauci may or may not be an ass, but he is a highly educated, extremely experienced ass with the weight of the pandemic and public opinion, often uninformed, on his shoulders.
So, kudos to 12bass and anyone else who is at least posting coherent, legitimate points to consider. Everyone else who gets a kick out of singling people out so you can feel smart, not so much.
