About 24 hrs. Guy that gave it said I would start feeling it after 10 if anything.

But it may not be the shot after all. Felling better after getting some dinner in me. Lets hope it continues.

Oh, this was your 2nd. My bad. I thought you meant the actual 3rd booster they're giving out now.

No that's right... Third shot. Have some underlying conditions that would make a Respiratory problem very bad.

Southeast is clearing up while the rest of the country begins to deal with a more contained-looking outbreak (except Alaska).

Still, spots seem to be following state borders in several areas and I think I've figured out why. It's likely different types of tests are prevalent in a given state, some less accurate than others. Hospitalizations don't seem to be contained in state borders, but this is probably difficult to map due to the nature of where hospitals are.

It’s rural areas with lower population. Delta is a POS. It will hunt out unvaccinated people wherever they live and infect the crap out of them. It just takes longer to take hold when the population is less dense. It makes sense that Alaska, being remote and lower population densities, getting it last. The only good news from this map is it seems like Delta has made it’s course through all 50 states now.

And that seems to back up natural immunity taking hold, otherwise once it was In an area it wouldn't wane. So, maybe that prediction of a post Thanksgiving turning point holds water

Throughout the month of August, unvaccinated adults were 11 times more likely to die from Covid-19 than fully vaccinated adults, according to new data released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The CDC also found that unvaccinated adults faced a six times as likely to contract the virus than fully vaccinated adults. The data marks the first time the CDC has released information about how Covid-19 risks can differ depending on vaccination status.

Currently, according to the CDC, nearly 77 percent of people in the U.S. age 12 or older have received at least one shot of the vaccine, while 66.5 percent are fully vaccinated.

Colin Powell, former secretary of state, has died from COVID-19 complications
Powell’s family says he died of complications from COVID-19. He was 84.

WASHINGTON — Colin Powell, former Joint Chiefs chairman and secretary of state, has died from COVID-19 complications, his family said Monday. He was 84.

In 1989 Powell became the first Black chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. In that role he oversaw the U.S. invasion of Panama and later the U.S. invasion of Kuwait to oust the Iraqi army in 1991.

But his reputation suffered a painful setback when, in 2003, Powell went before the U.N. Security Council and made the case for U.S. war against Iraq. He cited faulty information claiming Saddam Hussein had secretly stashed away weapons of mass destruction. Iraq’s claims that it had not represented “a web of lies,” he told the world body.

In an announcement on social media, the family said Powell had been fully vaccinated.

“We have lost a remarkable and loving husband, father and grandfather and a great American,” the family said.

Former President George W. Bush said he and former first lady Laura Bush were “deeply saddened” by Powell’s death.

“He was a great public servant” and “widely respected at home and abroad,” Bush said. “And most important, Colin was a family man and a friend. Laura and I send Alma and their children our sincere condolences as they remember the life of a great man.”

People should keep an eye out for booster availability. We are seeing significant hospitalization and death rates here (mind you they are much lower than for the unvaccinated) even for those with 2 shots 6 months or longer after their last shot and or if they have underlying conditions or are 60+ or have significant risks of exposure like working in certain settings. Healthcare workers here just got notified of upcoming boosters.

Im getting my booster by the end of the month.

I have my doubts too. I listen to a weekly segment here on the local Public Broadcasting affiliate, where they talk with the Jackson County, Oregon Medical Director, Dr. Jim Shames. He's very pro vaccine, but continues to equate "natural immunity" via infection with vaccinations. Basically in my hearing equating the two. To me that just feeds into some of the misinformation I hear all too often, presenting infection as a reasonable goal since it offers same or better protection.

The other aspects of covid aside (risk, long term effects, transmissibility, length of immunity if it exists), my own anecdotal evidence puts this assertion in question.

I have a cousin who works as a medical missionary in Guam. He caught covid last year, and didn't get too terribly sick. The information at the time pointed to prior infection as offering immunity, so while the rest of his family all got vaccinated he chose not to do so. He continued to take the virus seriously, and followed masking protocols etc.

Flash forward to a couple months ago, and he caught covid-19 again, and was hit HARD. He was in the hospital for several weeks, intubated, and wasn't expected to make it. He did, and has been home for some time now, but is still on oxygen as of at least a couple weeks ago. Healthy, fit, low 50s. Not at risk.

So yes, anecdotal, but this suggestion that infection = immune is imho helping feed the anti-vax movement.

Covid variants are getting tougher and people that caught the initial virus and got off easy now face a stronger form of it and get very sick.

Well, I heard it again at work today, in a meeting with my executive committee. Our state (reasonably) requires companies to have a COVID-19 policy, and I was introducing it to my board. It didn't go well.

Any inclusion of the word vaccination was criticized. Any requirement to see your doctor / health department / whatever if exposed or symptomatic before coming back to work ... no go. Any prescreening questions, not a chance. And then a long discussion on why natural immunity isn't recognized.

I'm not generally one to make rash decisions, but am going to look at my employment options. I like my job, but this isn't going to get any easier. There WILL (and IMHO should) be distinctions made between vaccinated and unvaccinated people, and tying employers hands chanting "but freedom!!!" is untenable. I work in a religious organization, and cannot get my mind around the fact that "love thy neighbor" isn't the guiding principle.

Right. Acquired immunity to Alpha doesn't necessarily help much vs Delta. Acquired immunity to Delta may or may not help against Lambda, but put you in a pretty good place vs Delta.

The mRNA vaccines target a site that is fairly consistent against all variants (so far) so provides better future-proofing.

If Covid more or less stagnates, then survival of Delta is probably fine. You can't really make public policy assuming that is true though.

numbers are still rising, although slowly. With the colder weather we'll see much higher numbers.

4rth wave drop is leveling off probably prepping the 5th early. We are seeing pretty high serious illness and death rates of 10-15% for vulnerable groups in such as lvl 3-4 nursing homes here.

Viral load during initial exposure is probably overwhelming acquired immunity in some people. Boosters may help but we need reformulated vaccines and soon.

And they also hint that, in some cases, treatments that "calm down" the immune system may help resolve psychiatric symptoms of COVID-19, she told Live Science in an email.
                                                                              ...

It may be that other immune-related factors, apart from the antibodies, drive the emergence of these symptoms.

"These autoantibodies may be most clinically meaningful as markers of immune dysregulation, but we haven’t found evidence that they are actually causing the patients’ symptoms. There’s certainly more work to be done in this area," co-first author Dr. Christopher Bartley, an adjunct instructor in psychiatry at the UCSF Weill Institute for Neurosciences, said in a statement.

Together, the countries are neither in a position to end the corona pandemic in the near future, nor to prevent a similar pandemic, write the independent experts of the World Health Organization (WHO) committee for monitoring preparedness planning. They presented their report at the “World Health Summit” in Berlin. "Covid-19 has exposed a broken world that is unjust, unaccountable and divided," it says.

While the corona pandemic cost hundreds of thousands of lives worldwide, the countries were not able to find a common solution. Whether someone has the chance to be vaccinated against the coronavirus does not depend on need, but on whether the home country can pay for the vaccine.

According to the report, there is a fundamental misunderstanding that solidarity has something to do with benevolence and help for the weaker. It is much more about fair treatment and the common interests of the people on earth. "Rich countries donate medical funds instead of promoting the development of manufacturing capacities, sharing technology and accepting fairer patent protection requirements," the report criticizes.

The WHO has long complained that rich countries used the corona vaccines first and are already offering booster vaccinations, while in many countries even health workers are still desperately waiting for the chance of a first vaccination dose. The WHO launched the Covax vaccination project based on solidarity with the support of rich countries in 2020. It should pool research funds for vaccines and then ensure that they are distributed fairly around the world. But rich countries left the country and concluded supply contracts with manufacturing companies at the same time. As a result, Covax couldn't buy enough doses of vaccine to serve poorer countries.

The committee recommends, among other things, an international treaty with which the countries commit themselves specifically to prepare for future pandemics and a fair global response to them. It also believes that a financing mechanism is necessary to ensure that sufficient money is available quickly and flexibly in an emergency.

Things still smell like burnt eggs frequently and many meat items have a similar taste. I've gotten used to it by now, but I still notice it.
