I'm so glad you did that. I was pondering an office reference.

"Every minute he was denied an ICU bed, he was dying." Bellville mom sheds light on non-COVID patients who are also suffering.

"[The doctor] said, 'We know what we need to do, and how to do it. We just have to get him to a facility to get it done,' and they couldn't do that," Puget said.

Puget said the staff called hospitals across Texas, Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas and Oklahoma. Due to the COVID-19 surge dominated by the delta variant and overwhelmed hospitals, there were no ICU beds available for Wilkinson, who was a non-COVID patient.
They need to officially change the triage protocols so this doesn't happen! Guy was a vet so had more access to treatment and still didn't get it.

I don't think population is really the issue. The U.S. threw enough money at the problem to get enough vaccine available. We could easily be up to 75% by now if we didn't have 40% of the our population refusing to cooperate.

I really think it should be stressed more how people who refuse to get the vaccine that they're just setting things back for everyone. Don't we all want to be rid of the pandemic? Well, if everyone would get the vaccine we'd be pretty damn close, even if it never fully goes away.

Instead we still have ICUs overflowing primarily with the non-vaccinated, which as the above linked article indicates also puts everyone else at risk if they happen to have an acute medical problem.

I read about this one as well, cancer patient needed emergency treatment and was turned away due to there being no beds available.

Hospitals are full, and now Ida is about to wreck the south. I thought 2021 was supposed to be better than 2020. Seems 2020 was just the opening act.

Been hearing they actually have beds available in multiple hospitals in our area, problem is they don't have enough staff (particularly nurses) to deal with the influx so they are limiting who they can handle.

                                          ……..
my dad may get out again today or tomorrow he was back in for pneumonia and afib most likely brought on by covid
but they say he covid free now after a little over two weeks and two time in the hospital

VA says I should be ok 10 days after my positive test and I got the antibodies at the same time 8 days ago
I will give it a extra week or so before I go in any customers houses and only if I have to and stay masked for a week or two after that everywhere

I'm not getting the 3rd shot till I know more about how it mixes with the antibodies I got and having it already no one seem to want to say
I should be good for 3 to 9 months I think

For what it's worth, if you genuinely feel your family has a shot and money doesn't concern you. Ask about ECMO
Concern is because when it works it's very cost efficient. It it drags out its side effects vs money vs survival rate. The results have been significant though.

The problem is that ECMO is something that is in VERY short supply and is a highly limited resource as well. So if marginal cases get it then it prevents the people that actually need it from benefiting.

Yes, but this is where we have arrived. In most critical cases this is the only real option outside of feel good measures because they waited to long.

Well, I'm officially in the group of people who know someone who died of Covid today. Wasn't someone I spoke to often but we had to see her at least once a year regarding my Special Needs child's yearly education. I don't know the specifics of her choices but she waited too late to get vaccinated. I hate that I live in a hotspot of idiots who still refuse to get the vaccine or wear masks, etc.

She was featured and interviewed by the local newspaper just this week from the Covid Unit at one of the hospitals.

Update on my mom and brother: Mom was released from the hospital a couple days ago. She is now on oxygen at home. This may be temporary, or it may be the new normal for her. She looked great for a 75 year old before she got COVID. She lost nearly 40 pounds in the 3 1/2 weeks, and looks like she has aged 20 years. She is still weak, but getting better every day, and at least she is home now.

My brother isn't doing well. He has made some smalls steps forward, and then big steps backwards. The vent/oxygen are at their highest levels now, his lungs are not taking oxygen like they are supposed to, and they recommending a tracheotomy when his body is able to be on his back more than 8 hours a day. He also is now septic, and has a bad case of COVID pneumonia, that all the antibiotics are doing is keeping it from getting worse, but not making it better. The doctor's haven't straight out said he isn't going to make it, but they have said he is really really sick, and death is a possibility. Each day it's harder and harder to fight the fear/sickening feeling he isn't going to make it. It's a Misérables feeling, and each day gets harder and harder to stay positive.

My dad and I, have come to the realization and talked about, that IF he makes it, he may not be the same person mentally, and have other serious complications. As we don't know how long he was low on oxygen from the time he really became unresponsive sometime during the night, and the morning when his wife tried to wake him on the 12th. (He's been incubated and on the Vent 3 weeks now come this Thursday). He has never been awake to even know what has happened to him as far as being in the hospital, incubated, and on a vent.

So once again, If you are on the fence about vaccines, masks, or you are one of the people who are against them, please reconsider your position and get vaccinated, wear masks. It's not just your life, but those around you. I don't wish this on anyone, As I have already lost one brother to this, and may very well lose my other brother as well.

To those that have brought up family members who are fighting COVID, have friends who are fighting COVID, and/or who have lost someone to COVID, my deepest sympathy to you all.
