6328 new cases in Oklahoma over the weekend.

        Average of 3164 a day.

Oklahoma City School System opened up today. The school systems can't mandate masks. So it looks like a lot of fun will be going on here in the next few days..

Tents in place: Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital ICU is full, Harris Health says

The tents aren't operational yet but not a good sign. KHOU is also saying elective surgeries are being cancelled but that article refs politicos so not going to link.

Unvaccinated parents should be forced to place their kids in remote learning this semester.

Why should responsible parents have to put our young children at risk because of ignorant assholes?

Well, to be sure, some shots can/do contain chips. Not this one though.

We can eradicate this disease from the planet if everyone gets vaccinated and wears a mask for a moderate period of time.

It can and has happened many many times before. Because of Vaccines you don't have to worry about Polio for instance in most of the world today. It will take years to combat this one especially though because of how infectious it is.

Dude, this delta variant is breaking the vaccine. Sure it's typically a milder infection, but kids in school. They're going to get it. Mine go back in two weeks, and both are vaccinated. I fully expect to be exposed in a few weeks. We have no mask mandate in schools, so it's optional, aka useless.

Not being vaccinated is no longer a point of contention for me. Those that aren't can take their chances, but we can all get it now.

mRNA vaccines are still efficient against the delta variant:
The vast majority of infections are still in unvaccinated people, says Liz Rogawski McQuade, an infectious-disease researcher at the University of Virginia. According to reporting from the Kaiser Family Foundation, US states that are tracking vaccination status of cases are finding that between 94% and 99.9% of cases are in unvaccinated people. And out of everyone who has been vaccinated, between 0.01% and 0.54% have experienced a breakthrough case.
It looks like vaccinated people can spread infections. We answer five questions about delta, what makes it more contagious, and why it’s complicated.

My friend who's a fully-vaccinated dermatologist recently got infected and these were his exact words:
We are good now, it was annoying. I couldn't shake the headache.
They must have give my the placebo vaccine lol

The CDC is only tracking vaccinated breakthrough on people admitted to the hospital. The number of breakthrough cases is MUCH higher. The good news is we typically have much less severe cases.

Washington, Aug 8 (EFE).- The United States has set a new record of 1,450 children hospitalized for Covid-19, the director of the National Institutes of Health, Francis Collins, reported on Sunday.

In an interview with ABC’s “This Week,” Collins said that the country never should have gotten to this point amid the resurgence of coronavirus cases being caused by the so-called Delta variant.

“How did we get here? Why is it that a mandate about a vaccine or wearing a mask suddenly becomes a statement of your political party? “We never should have let that happen. And come on, America. We can separate these, can’t we?” said Collins.

“This is not a political statement or an invasion of your liberties,” Collins said. “This is a lifesaving medical device. And asking kids to wear a mask is uncomfortable, but you know kids are pretty resilient.”

“We know that kids under 12 are likely to get infected and if we don’t have masks in schools, this virus will spread more widely,” he continued. “It will probably result in outbreaks in schools and kids will have to go back to remote learning, which is the one thing we really want to prevent.”

Collins added that the US is paying a “terrible price” given the rapid rise in case numbers, especially among unvaccinated people.

He said that almost all the deaths from Covid these days are among unvaccinated people, adding that these people are generally younger than during earlier waves of the virus and include children.

He said that the US is experiencing its largest number of children hospitalized with Covid since the pandemic began – 1,450 patients, and many of them are younger than age 12 and so are not yet eligible to be vaccinated.

Collins said that health authorities do not yet have any rigorous data showing that the Delta variant is more serious for young people, but he added that he is listening to doctors who are worried that the new spike in infections includes more children and they are becoming more seriously ill.

Meanwhile, the president of the American Federation of Teachers, Randi Weingarten, said on NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday that 90 percent of the teachers in that union have been vaccinated and admitted that the organization is evaluating whether to reconsider its policy, announced in October 2020, about voluntary vaccination of its members.

She said that she thinks the circumstances have “changed” and that vaccination is a “responsibility” of the community, adding that it greatly concerns her that children under age 12 cannot yet be vaccinated.

She added that there are significant religious and medical objections and exemptions to being vaccinated but said that she feels it is important to take them into account when crafting the organization’s policy on the vaccines, and she gave as an example the decision of President Joe Biden that people may elect to either get themselves immunized or to take regular Covid-19 tests to ensure they are not asymptomatic carriers of the virus.

“As a matter of personal conscience we need to be working with employers on vaccine mandates,” Weingarten said, adding that the combination of vaccines and masks will protect the youngest US children, adding that it is important to work with parents to ensure that they recognize that and follow through on it.

On the same television program, the US government’s top epidemiologist, Dr. Anthony Fauci, reiterated that there will be no federal mandate obligating everyone to get vaccinated against Covid.

However, he said that the US Food and Drug Administration is going to fully approved the vaccines that are currently authorized for emergency use, something that he said could occur in the coming weeks. In the meantime, many companies and private entities could be announcing that they will require their employees to be vaccinated.

This is what I cannot understand, how does a parent not want their child to be safe and protected?

According to some I see on the local news, keeping them safe means not making them wear a mask all day, or get micro chipped by taking the vaccine. This would be funny if it wasn't actually crap they say.

In all honesty, the reason why we're suffering during this pandemic is because of politics.

It's impossible for it not to be a part of the discussion.

In a normal world, we would all be sitting here, discussing how we need more N95 masks and passing links on deals.

We wouldn't be discussing anything else.

That could happen if approached correctly. We aren’t dealing with an ideology that is getting people intubated, we’re dealing with an actual organism.

If this thing isn’t dealt with we’re going to lose a lot more people across the next few or more mutations.

                                                          Florida ...

Was there last week, for work conferences. Took my family along and spent a few days doing the tourist thing. It was ... a little overwhelming.

We are fully vaccinated, including my recently turned 12yr old son. Looking forward to the vacation, we enjoyed the happiness and relief that came with being vaccinated. Then delta hit. Instead of feeling carefree, I was right back to our pre-vaccine days of worrying about infection and being "militant dad" with mask and distancing enforcement. And despite wearing a mask throughout, I still went in and got a covid test yesterday before going back to work, just in case. Why? Because of scenes like this:

My conferences were televised as well, and the camera crew all went home the second day after testing positive, despite wearing masks (I don't know about their vaccine status, probably doubtful). Despite this, despite delta, and despite announcements and signs around the convention hall directing unvaccinated people to mask up, I'd say that 95% of the attendees continued to go mask free. Loony. And I regret being there.

Honestly Lupine, I blame the CDC on this one. We started seeing in Israel (568+ people) a month ago who were fully vaxxed could still get sick and transmit the virus.

They should have jumped on that and reinstituted the mask mandate.

Even now, the Administration has got to get the word out, that hey, it's still a slim possibility, but if your vaccinated you need to mask up.

I see everyone walking around without masks, especially with young kids in tow and it pisses me off.

Education and keeping the public informed is everything. Also, on a side note, why the hell haven't we got our Madea vaccine PSA's commercials yet?

I can see it now. A few years from now on daytime TV... "Did you or a loved one suffer from covid? Call 1-800-FUC-HINA".

The politicians are worrying more about elections than public safety. Even our democratic governor here in Oregon is leaving it up to individual counties to take the public hit that will almost certainly come with implementing (necessary) mask mandates. That means rural counties like mine, that are among the worst in the state, will almost certainly not implement these very necessary steps. Putting the burden on individual companies to deal with implementing and enforcing masks and distancing.

Its putting everyone in a terrible position. My board will not support me requiring indoor masks and distancing again, not if the state or county isn't requiring them. I'm going to take a huge hit on this.

But, the teachers are having such a fit over the mask mandate they're planning on not showing up. And urging parents not to send their children to school until the Governor lifts it.

People tend to only focus on the national stuff when they should be paying attention to state and local politics MUCH more.

In Florida, Desantis is still very competitive in polling, despite how bad things are there now.

I'm afraid we've reached the point where facts literally do not matter anymore, because people will simply choose not to believe them if they are inconvenient.

Thousands travel there daily, so I'm not really surprised to see them getting hammered. The guy that I went to the mountains with, who ended up having covid while we were there, is in FL with his family now. The pictures he sent, show hundreds on the beach, and in restaurants. None are wearing masks.
