The second a small outbreak, similar to the scope of Italy happens here in the States, people will mildly panic.

This means you will see big events canceled, work from home instituted almost immediately, etc.

Prepare for that and you'll be ok.

Finally got my last shipment of MRE's in. Wife and I now have 4 weeks of MRE's (3 meals a day, can easily extend if we ration them out). 2 month supply of all normal household goods (TP, cleaning supplies, etc.). Water filtration we've always had, so good there.

Last purchases will be boxes of ammo for my pistols and shottie (never know).

Better to have and not need than need and not have.

They are still doing surface studies of the survivability of the virus outside the body and while most hard surfaces seems to have the virus die quickly theres one news bit that said it might survive a lot longer on surfaces like cardboards or clothing.

That could explain the infections of those who never came into known contact with people who had the disease or traveled to infected areas. Think Ill put off more purchases on wish, taobao and alibaba for now...

So the UK got the first case with someone contracting the virus without any contact from anyone overseas or exposed to the virus. He got it homegrown, just like the woman in California.

Just more confirmation that this is out in the wild.

There is also some great reporting from Reuters in Northern Italy. There are towns in that region that have saw 4% of the population contract the disease. According to their estimates, it looks like the RO number is around 2. So two people for every one person infected. Seasonal influenza sticks to around 1.3 people.

My guess is that an infected person, with or without symptoms, touched a counter at a fast food restaurant or coffee shop and dropped off some virus love, which was then picked up by these people. No way to directly connect the carrier to the newly infected person.

You hit the nail on the head though. Given how close everyone usually works if I’v one gets it the likelihood is the rest also will be infected. Maybe if you go full fung shue it’ll ward off the disease

Doctor sounds virus alarm, says kids shouldn’t go to school

A family doctor at Denison’s hospital warned his patients and colleagues to wear masks, to keep children home from school and to stop going to church and hugging people, according to a three-page letter he recently distributed about a new virus that is spreading from China.

“We will have bodies that need to be cremated,” wrote Dr. Todd Woollen, who worked at Crawford County Memorial Hospital (CCMH) for more than 14 years until he resigned last week.

He resigned Feb 14th according to his patients.

This is the letter he had left for them in his office from earlier in the month.
