The region I work in has moved all food production workers into Phase 2, so I should get my first shot (or only depending on which vaccine is available) in the next 3-5 weeks. Maybe. If nothing goes wrong and there are no delays getting more.

That's actually not a bad timetable for the region - I'm 48 this year and in reasonably good health, all things considered, so otherwise I'd be last in line. Where I live they are still working on getting people ages 70+ vaccinated.

According to reports the US surge is usually a few weeks behind the overseas surge, although in my state it has already started. Over 8k new cases reported on Saturday. Going after the young-ins now with the latest variant's.

TORONTO -- Top doctors in Toronto, Peel Region and Ottawa are calling on the Ontario government to issue a provincewide stay-at-home order in an effort to control the surge of COVID-19 variants.

In the letter to Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, which is dated April 4, the doctors say that while they welcome the provincial shutdown, stronger measures are required to reverse the surge of infections.

I think the variants haven't taken root as much in the U.S. yet. It's sort of a race at this point between vaccination and the more contagious variants.

Other places in the world already are dealing with the more contagious variants being dominant, and they're also doing worse on the vaccine front.

On a side note, I feel bad for the poorer countries in the world, because they are going to be last in line to get the vaccine, and they'll also lack the resources to easily distribute it. I'm afraid for them the end is still a long way off.

That is also bad because it means there will be a continued population where the virus can continue to spread and potentially mutate into a form that evades the vaccines.

The best thing we can do world wide is to shut down air travel to those poor nations, until we can get them vaccinated as well. In the age of the internet there is no need for business travel to those areas, and if you want to visit family, well go for it. Can't come back until they're all clear. Sucks, but that's what it's going to take.

If your vaccinated it sounds like your pretty safe to resume your life based on reports that you also don't carry the virus after being vaccinated.

The risk that*you’ll*develop COVID-19 is low if you are vaccinated and attend a gathering indoors with others who are not vaccinated. However, please be aware that you can potentially*spread*the virus to others. Vaccination does not completely shield you from becoming infected with the virus; it just lessens symptoms and severity of disease. So, it’s possible that you could have no symptoms or only very mild symptoms, and still pass the virus to your family and friends who are not yet vaccinated.
Sounds like people thinking they're invincible can still spread it to everyone else not fully vaccinated, so I still say stay the hell home.

Still believe its fine as long as you are vaccinated, really doesn't matter though, people are still doing whatever the hell they want. Vacations are starting to happen again and a former coworker who did get COVID was traveling in the height of it, so I believe the no travel is out.

Also recently I have been hearing that you don't carry the virus if your vaccinated. Is this an old story or new?

Neighbor notified that the local Kroger was doing a walk-in covid vaccine this morning. No one called me back from the various wait lists I'm on so I checked it out for grins. There was only one pharmacist doing the shots so the whole process took 3 hours. 1st shot of Pfizer down, I get the impression 2nd will also be sorta walk-in as well though they have my info anyways. Only been 2 hours though I don't expect to feel anything since it is the first shot.

This isn't true unless your "potentially" is also compared with the prevention number. You'll also "potentially" still get infected as well... just at a low enough rate to not be overly concerned. New CDC report basically says that exposure after vaccinated results in very low numbers of asymptomatic infections also.

The results show strong evidence that the vaccines work against preventing all infections, including asymptomatic and pre-symptomatic infections..,,

The study looked at 3,950 health care personnel, first responders and other essential workers and required them to self-collect nasal swabs each week for PCR lab testing for 13 straight weeks, regardless of whether they had developed symptoms of illness.

It was 2-3 hours for me before a mild headache and weird, not quite right but nothing really noteworthy hit. It passed pretty quickly too.

This is exactly what I hope to avoid and is why I'm going to wait a little while longer before I take the plunge. That, and I suspect I did get re-infected again but because I had full blown covid before, my symptoms were very mild and I recovered in just a few days. It all happened so fast I wasn't even sure if I was truly sick or not, but I seem to be at low risk now.

I didn't even test positive so what I felt must have been the body reacting before the virus could take hold again, but some of the symptoms were the same as before and the same thing happened to my g/f around the same time. It would appear once you have had the virus that if you do get re-infected that you recover very quickly, at least in our cases.

Well this was first come first serve. No appointments, so I expected a longer wait if I could get a shot at all if they ran out while I was in line. The 15 min wait afterwards was totally on the honor system though. I stuck around just in case but nobody broke out or had any issues while I was there. Store manager was giving out free chips and water near the end of the window as people continued to wait.

Payn3d's post makes me want to feel something bad, I haven't had a vaccine in a while so I wouldn't know if I got air. Yeah if you read the article further there wasn't even saline, just air! I felt a pinch and that was it, 4 hours later and nothing.

Yeah, the 15 minute thing is pretty much just a precaution. The likelihood of having an adverse reaction if you haven't in the past had allergic reactions to vaccines is extremely low, like a few people out of a million. Overall it doesn't hurt to stick around just in case you start having a problem though.

Before bed it was sore. This morning I woke up and it was still sore so definitely got something. It's not major, forgot about it while making breakfast and catching up here but if I think about it and start moving it around, definitely feel it.

For reference, India just passed 100k cases a day for the first time a couple of days ago. That means the U.S and India, a country of over 1.3 billion people, are the only two nations in the world to cross that 'milestone.' We also did it with a quarter of their population...

We need not get complacent. We need not fly in on a military jet and prematurely declare "Mission Accomplished!" There is good vaccine news, there is a lot more light at the end of the tunnel, but... we just have to stick it out a bit longer so even more people needn't needlessly die or get sick.

Sadly, with how many people were here in Orlando for their pandemic vacations throwing all precautions to the wind, I don't think we've really seen the uptick from Spring Break / Easter travel unfold yet...
