    Me too Good news indeed.

On the family disconnects, my wife's entire family that lives locally, and 3 of them in TX all had it. The family here is clamouring for vaccines, the family in TX are first responders and refused theirs. They are now officially prohibited from my property and immediate family when they come to visit.

Yes, it's a fracture in the family, but I'll take that over seeing my wife/daughters/grandkids get covid.

went to a gas station yesterday, 10 people already filling up their tanks, not a single one wearing a mask but me. People are dumb and selfish. You can't cure dumb, you can't argue, it's sad and infuriating at the same time.

That's so sad. But it's a reminder that not only the old and already sick ones are in danger, something most people tend to "forget".

Cases of the south african strain in SC. None of them had traveled there, so it's more widespread than we think. Oh, and apparently our vaccines are only around 50% effective against that one. This is going to go on for a while folks.

It is possible that a new strain could appear that would require tweaks to vaccine. Fauci said in a recent press conference that the current strains aren't an issue. But, if a problem does arise the tweaks necessary are usually minor. Worst case is people would require an additional booster shot.

Not sure how gas stations over there are, but here in the U.S. cars/people are spaced about 10-15 feet apart as it is. Not wearing a mask while filling your car up is no biggy. Now if they walk into the store to buy a drink/pay for gas and have no mask that is different.

Always a possibility, but as usual, the faster everyone, or at least enough of a majority to stymie community spread, can get vaccinated, the lower the chance a new and potentially dangerous strain mutates. And that's not a countrywide thing, it's a worldwide one. We'll definitely have more strains than currently identified, each new one is a roll of the dice as to whether it is more resistant to existing vaccinations, so we just need to roll that dice as few times as possible.

Can you list the "too many times" he has lied? As far as I can tell MAGAs hate him with a passion for not falling in line with the rest of the Trump cult.

Ok, I made the rounds of right-wing "news" outlets to collect Fauci's lies and here's what I found:
Back in March 2020 he said that healthy people shouldn't go around wearing masks in public only to backtrack in April when CDC gained a better understanding of the virus.
He recently made a guess that herd immunity can be achieved when 75% of the population gets vaccinated only to move the goal post to 80% later.
For a brief moment he was caught maskless watching a baseball game with two family members in the summer of 2020.

I changed my mind, hang the guy and make an example out of him...

it was avery small gas station, cars almost bumper to bumper, so no, not 10 feet away.

This is a typical gas station layout in my city.

As you can see, it's not a big deal here to not have a mask on while pumping gas. But the way you describe your station, yes I can see it as an issue.

I have many weird memories of German fuel stations. Inside, buffet station with bean salad being the primary entree. Paying for using the restroom. Oldish, portly lady cleaning the restroom stops me from leaving and (in German) says "Go ahead." and points to the urinals. I felt strangely comfortable peeing with that lady behind me, mopping the floor. Finally, full frontal nudity porn magazines right at eye level for any 6 year old.

Good times. Thanks for the memories, Silent-Runner.

That layout is really common around where I am on the east coast. Lots of the other too though.

My state is through the roof with cases right now, but the upside is that I rarely see anyone without a mask on. I haven't checked numbers for a few days, but i think the news said the deaths are dropping recently.

I guess it’s possible that some people might value Comedy Central more than the advice of a expert in the field for more than 30 years. Honestly, I wish these sort of people glowed in the dark so I could triple my normal social distance around them.

Yes, the one near me has a card machine only active once the place is closed for the night.

Fortunately the one close to my work ONLY has a card machine, so I can be anti-social more so .

Germany isn't exactly fast at adopting certain technologies, but at least contactless payments are nearly everywhere now, so can use the phone to pay.

Oh, and apparently our vaccines are only around 50% effective against that one. This is going to go on for a while folks.

Unless we restrict travel much more severely there's no way to stop these strains from jumping borders.
