Just finished Shrinking season 1 on Apple TV. It was quite enjoyable... one of those rare shows I'd actually be looking forward to every week. The entire cast (Harrison Ford, Jason Seigel, Christa Miller and others) work well together.

    I watched The Peripheral.

It was just okay. I think it was Amazon, so for sci-fi at least it had a bit of budget behind it.

It wasn't really boring, and it had sort of an interesting concept behind it. It did suffer a little bit from sci-fi mumbo-jumbo where they make things a bit futuristic, but almost pointlessly. Like they keep doing this thing where they rub their fingers together to make things happen, which just sort of has the veneer of cool sci-fi stuff, but doesn't add anything to the plot.

The issue was that it just didn't do a whole lot with it. Each episode was close to an hour long. And even with that long run time, it felt like the story never really went anywhere. I watched two episodes per week (8 episodes total) and finished it last weekend, and I can't even remember now what the major plot points were. And each time I came back a week later I had to quickly skim through the previous episode to remember what happened. I usually don't need to do that. Something about the plot just wasn't very memorable.

They've set up a next season, so maybe this was just early world building in the first season.

Finished The Last of Us. Great show, feels very fresh & different, definitely finds it's own path in contrast to the Walking Dead and other similar zombie media. Actually I'm kindof surprised how little zombie action was in the show. But definitely has a more intimate feel, with a much smaller cast of starring characters. It also helps that the story has a bit more structure than other zombie shows, with the main characters making their way out west to try to accomplish something. It keeps the story moving... the fact that the characters never stay in the same state for more than 1-2 episodes... this show avoids alot of the boring monotony that Walking Dead regularly suffered from.

I've played through the first few hours of the game, but never finished it. However, from what I know about the game, this show seems to stick astonishingly close to the game in terms of story, tone, & design. HBO was smart to not change things that already worked. I do intend to take another stab at the game now.

Finished M. Night Shamylan's Servant on AppleTV (4 seasons.) It was an enjoyable "horror" story.

Partway through History of the World, Part II on Hulu. Amazing the number of stars that wanted to be in it. Last chance to work with Mel Brooks I suppose, he's 98! It's hit and miss, but overall enjoyable if you enjoy silly sketch comedy and running gags.

i'm almost done with season 1..i have to force myself to watch this show. i can't get into the cheesy storylines and situations ..i probably would 've enjoyed watching it if it came out in the early 2000s or something.

I finished the season. I think I'll stay along for S2. I think Bella Ramsey got so much positive reactions to her character in GoT (rightfully so) that she tries to play a similar person, but the situations dont lend themselves to the same execution. Just some really weird acting choices for her character. Pascal does a good job. I thought the preacher was pretty good as well.

I'm recovering from hip replacement surgery and wifey is a school nurse on spring break. Today we binged the whole first season of The Tudors on Showtime.

Wifey is the binger of the household; I rarely go beyond 3-4 eps. Ten eps is prolly a record for me.

Solid for the most part, but nothing earth shattering. Pedro's daughter's acting in the first episode is 100x better imo.

Finished TLoU. Probably the best TV adaption of a video game outside of Arcane (and that one was animated). Loved that they got the game's original voice actors involved in cameos (and fairly lengthy cameos at that) and how well the two leads worked out despite misgivings early on. Folk on the Discord says game 2 has enough content to be split out into 2 seasons which given how well they able to pad out season 1 makes me feel better about them over milking it but we'll see.

Finished Santa Clarita Diet. Overall i'd give it a VERY generous 6/10. The ending was kinda strange. Dead to me was easily a 8/10

Not sure if i should watch Narco - Saints. It got very mixed reviews. Or i could start watching House of Cards, it's been sitting in my watchlist forever....

White Lotus season 2 - Didn't find this one as compelling as the first season, dunno why it seemed to get so much press. Even strongly hinted that there would be another season.

Wondering if I should binge the last season of His Dark Materials before my sub runs out or save it for another sub. Last ep of TLoU is tonight!

I finally finished re-watching BSG. What a show!

I also decided to re-watch the David Simon-produced Generation Kill, the HBO mini-series about the lead recon units for the Iraqi invasion of aught-three. It usually strikes me a little weird when movies and shows become closer in time to the events they are depicting than whenever you're watching. E.g., Generation Kill was aired 15 years ago about events that only transpired five years before its airing.

With BSG, that's not an issue-- it depicts events that happened 150,000 years ago.

I started watching Daisy Jones and the Six. I had low expectations, but it is actually pretty good. The two leads are decent actors and singers. The girl playing Daisy is actually Elvis Presley's granddaughter. The 1970s vibe of rock and roll in LA is pretty well done too. I'll keep watching.

You may like Made For Love on HBO. Woman more or less kidnapped by an obsessed te h billionaire.. (Musk.) Kinda has a similar semi-funny tone.

Just finished Poker Face season 1. Ended strong.

Started season 3 of the Mandalorian. Episode 1 was a huge WTF? The supporting cast that showed up are all now completed bored and boring. The rest of the episode the Mandalorian talks to himself while Grogu stares at things and makes funny faces.

Finished House of the Dragon in between episodes of TLoU. Yeah the time skips were a bit much, even a reviewer that read the book said so but understandable as the book itself is meant to be a history book of what happened before the main series so like any history book there will be jumps in time. Wished the dedicated thread didn't turn into blank posts so I got see you guys real time critiques again but oh well.
