Wow. I just came on here to say I've been hitting my elliptical every other day for 25 mins. with varying resistance for nearly two months now. I haven't lost much weight but I've gained a belt buckle or two back and I just feel better.

I'm just happy not to be a total tired fat-fock but some of you guys are outright studly.

When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.

              Ice,

Every time you post in this thread I have to put the beer down and go spend a couple hours in the garage you bastard.

Out of curiosity what're you doing for those shoulders? It looks like you're smuggling grapefruits.

I get through my workouts just to be able to sit and relax with a drink 😄

My workouts are pretty basic though. Until recently when I switched up my reps/sets for more of a bodybuilding approach, it was always a 5x5 for shoulder press and then I did 3x12 for DB shoulder press and finished it off with 3x12 side lateral raises which I supersetted with front lateral raises (also 3x12). That's really all I've never done, I think I just have good deltoid genetics.

Some of you guys are very ripped, impressive.

I've been doing basic routines for a couple of months now, but I started very minimally because I was out of shape and it hurt. Now I'm doing approx 5x30 mins a week of a mix of weights and additional cardio and trying to hit multiple muscle groups. Feels good to have more definition in my arms less flab around other places.

My current goal is about 15% body fat and that might be achievable by Oct at my current rate. I will probably step it up slowly and start running when it gets into spring here.

At a guess I’d say you’re 10-12% in your photo here?

That’s some mad discipline. It’s doable nutcrackr, but from experience it hurts. I maintained about 12% for a while years and years ago. I never had the mass that Java has, but even so, it was rough. I don’t think I want to do that again. Love my food too much.

I think I was 12% in that pic, but I've gotten a few lbs leaner since and I think I'm currently at 10%

What I'm doing to stay lean is not sustainable; I'm only pushing myself to look good on the beach then once I'm back from vacation I can take it easy for a bit.

Thanks, I actually prefer not having a person spot me for bench when I have the spotter arms, that way I can go all or nothing. The spotter arms can withstand a bar loaded with 500+ lbs being dropped on it from the top. If i was at a local gym though, then yeah I would definitely need a spotter.

For chest clearance I just gotta make sure I don't overboard on Five Guy burgers Though it is adjustable if I need to lower/raise it in small increments. Once the bar is rolled down enough it's like sliding easily in/out of the dukes of hazzard car

I don’t/can’t bench nearly (not even close) what you do, but still use spotter bars….it’s just the angle of the video. Makes it so a viewer can’t see the clearance between you and the bar, so I cringed a little at your last rep.

Gotta say though you’re looking strong. What did you say your age was…40ish? Beastly

When I hit another milestone I'll try posting at a different angle. My goal is just to hit 405lb bench again, which I've actually done in the past about 10 years ago. I was going to say 5-6 because that's what i had in my mind, but when I checked my last day at LA Fitness it was actually 10 years ago...man time flies when you're old

47 now, I was at my strongest at 38. Now I'm just trying to hold on to whatever strength I can muster, eat a balanced diet and burn enough calories to get reasonably lean as my age/body will allow, and see how long I can keep this up each year before everything starts breaking down .

My goal is just to hit 405lb bench again, which I've actually done in the past about 10 years ago. I was going to say 5-6 because that's what i had in my mind, but when I checked my last day at LA Fitness it was actually 10 years ago...man time flies when you're old

47 now, I was at my strongest at 38. 10 years isn’t that long …..but it does fly by. You’re in great shape, so I bet you hit that goal. Everyone is different, so you may go longer than me as far as breaking down…I hit 50 doing really well, and at 60 things began to go downhill. I’m still doing ok for mid 60s, but man….I would rather be 47 again lol.

Thanks, I hope "body memory" will keep me in decent shape for another decade or so since i've been working out since 18 (went from 105 lbs in 12th grade to 220 lbs highest to 187lbs now). Can't predict the future though so I'll enjoy what I can do now and hope it lasts forever.

As for yourself even at 65 I bet you can whip yourself into great muscular shape if you have the time. Just use light weights and train really close to failure and ensure you get enough protein. If T levels are low you can always get TRT from your doctor if needed to ensure you have a good base level of testosterone. I think it's the 70's where everything starts to really break down and there's nothing you can do about it (just look at Arnold now . Though to be fair, Arnold is still in pretty good shape for a 75 year old. )

No TRT needed yet thankfully, but it’s an option for later lol. I do pretty good really, it’s just the joints that have had surgery in the past are complaining again, so I’m trying to be careful. I can’t complain really. Genetics has been good to me in spite of the abuse my body has taken. I’ll start getting really concerned when I can’t get out from under the grandkid dog pile

Ah yes, the joints, I keep forgetting about that...until my joints start to hurt.

Joints and tendons are finicky. Doesn't matter if the muscles are capable of lifting heavy, if the joints aren't gonna cooperate, it ain't gonna happen lol. Not much I can recommend on that other than lots of fish oil.

Like bench where my goal is to get back 405+ lb bench press, my goal in squat is get back and perhaps exceed my PR squat of 515lbs. If the back cooperates of course. If it doesn't, well so be it. But first, gotta put in the hypertrophy training to get these 47 year old muscles to wake up

                                                                  1st set 315 x 5

5th set 365 x 1 (just a feeler rep. Next week I'll start feeling out 405+ lbs on the last set)

Only first 2 hypertrophy sets shown to keep the video from becoming repetitive

I don't eat anything with refined sugar, also no white bread, white rice (Brown Rice instead), pasta(whole wheat instead) or potatoes (Baked only). Eat a **** ton of red meat (bison and beef). I have ridden an exercise bike (over a year) and just invested in a rowing machine. I also finally cleaned and set up my weight bench. Just need clearance and guidance from my doc about my massive hernia (it needs surgery) about a possible belt that I can use while lifting, If i can get to 250lb then they will operate, hence the reason for training. Also I was just tired of being tired all the time.....

Unfortunately I've let life get the better of me the last year, and I've gotten up to 300lbs myself. I've just started back on my diet, and should get down to 280 or so pretty quick. Really need to get down under 250 so I can start running and skateboarding again. Heck I'd love to get down lower, but I've been heavy much of my adult life, despite being healthy & active, so it seems pretty tough.

Traditionally I've still run even at 260, 270, 280, but 300 is tough for running, and now that I'm in my 40s my knees have been telling me not to. Maybe I need to buy a bike?
