Avatar- Way of Water [3D]* . . . 8/10

Well, I'll be hornschwoggled-- it came back here in 3D! [Shrugs] iunno, of course this didn't have the sfx "shock-and-awe" value of the first one, and I agree it went on too long, and it's not Shakespeare, but I still liked it a lot. Both movies are so beautiful and I also agree that moving to the ocean setting was a good move.

The Menu - 6/10. Some good performances and writing but a ludicrous premise. It’s built to be attractive to bored/self-loathing rich people. Which is why it probably gets so much acclaim with Hollywood critics. If you watched White Lotus and wished more justice in the ending for all those characters, you’d like this. My biggest problem with it is that the key elements that hold the plot together are completely flimsy and ridiculous. A lot of the pacing and writing was good. But there was so much that required you to suspend logic that I couldn’t enjoy it. The idea and main theme is good. The execution needed to be a lot more nuanced and believable to get a higher rating from me. The only thing that kept me watching to the end was the performance by Anna Taylor-Joy. She is, of course beautiful, but as an actress she does a great job with emotional expression. One of the few actors out there that feels like she is looking right into the soul of the scene and setting all the emotional pacing without even saying a word. Ralph Fiennes was fine but his role was to be emotionless. Only in the very end does he show anything. It’s the way the character was written. So, no knock on him. He definitely pulled it off and a lesser actor could have easily made the entire movie unwatchable.

Strange World. 7/10. Disney animated film. There's some fun to be found here, but some parts of the story don't make much sense and this movie works WAAAAAY too hard to check ALL of the woke boxes. There's a conservation message included, but ends in sortof a "everyone's lifestyle needs to decline dramatically in the future and we should all be happy about it" kind of way.

Lots of interesting & creative environment & creature designs. The film pulls some elements from How to Train Your Dragon & Journey to the Center of the Earth, with some Dr. Seuss aesthetics. Not a bad movie overall.

Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio 7/10

Sort of a sucker for stop motion animation. I dunno, while I appreciated this version's less than fairy tale re-telling I can't really give it the high marks it seems to be getting elsewhere. Definitely deserved to get nommed for best animation though.

Quantum of Solace. Just realized how many physical stunts Craig did for these movies. It is much more intense than any movies before it. 6/10.

Skyfall. I always found this one ridiculous to watch. It was too much of a personal story and whole movie was designed to kill of Dench. 6.5/10.

Two movies left. Probably my favorites. I especially love No time to die and have watched it 3 times already.

nicely acted movie , loses points in the end . i have disdain for movies that want you to use your "imagination" after the final scene is shown. some movies like inception did it well, but a lot can't pull it off. (imo)

Just watched Tar and I have to go off on a rant. I am literally sick of these self-loathing films coming out of Hollywood lately. Do they think we really give a **** what tortures souls they are? Tar is basically the story of a megalomaniac bitch that is cruel to everyone around her and in the end loses everything. We could have easily taken a video cam and followed Kate Blanchard around for a week and made the exact same movie. Except for one difference, she probably never suffers any consequence from all the people she steps on. I think her acting was decent. But I doubt it was a reach for her. The rest of the story is so trite and predictable. Super lame out of 10. I am really disappointed in what Hollywood considers good these days. Critics live in some sort of ludicrous bubble praising anything that placates their inferiority complex as a person. Someone PLEASE make a movie that the actual living and breathing audience can relate to!!

I didn’t finish it yet. Got bored. No idea what all the wokeness complaining is about. But, either way it can’t make or break the boredom coming from the MCU lately. I think the problem they always have is they try and make the movies so big and extravagant such that the story and characters get lost in the mess. May never finish/10 for me.

They def had the cold hard cash printing magic of Avatar in mind when they made this one.
