Structurally it's a mess, there's so many missed opportunities, very little setup or payoff. It's not the AvP movie anyone wanted, but maybe it's the AvP movie we deserved?

The French Dispatch . . . 7.5/10
Wes Anderson's 2021 film. I can go either way with his stuff. I do not like The Royal Tannenbaums or the Grand Budapest Hotel, nor did I like Steve Zissou: The Life Aquatic at first (for one thing the title is too facking long). I liked Moonrise Kingdom and the animated stuff. You just sort of give in to the uber-stylization sometimes. Plus he usually has Bill Murray, so he's got that going for him.
This is broken up into 3-4 distinct stories which include Timothy Chalamet and Frances McDormand being a couple, and Léa Seydoux as an unusual nude model. When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.

The Batman. 9/10, surprisingly great. Dark, gritty, and grounded, but sufficiently differentiated from any other vision of Batman on film, despite re-treading some of the same themes. Nice to see them focus more on the detective themes, and matching that with the Riddler works great. Lots of surprises, especially in the final act.
Is it the best Batman film? Nah, the Chris Nolan ones still edge this one out. But this is surprisingly good, and I'm looking forward to the sequel.Originally posted by KACTo be honest I never even found doom 3 to be scary since I have a big dick since birth.

The batman. I think it's my favorite interpretation of the characters. Batman actually seems human and not perfect. His dismount from the rooftop was not part of the plan. A little fear, and didn't stick the landing... Refreshing. The villains aren't charactures.
and his failure to solve the final riddle in time was also unexpected in a batman film. The tie in with antisocial media for the riddler is a pretty deft move I thought.
Kinda the Netflix daredevil/punisher treatment. I enjoyed it.Last edited by koralis; Mar 19, 2022, 04:29 PM.A hobbiest foundry and forge in progress, plans, suppliers, showcasing ideas

Gravity 8.5/10 needed something to justify HBO sub for the month, remember watching this originally in IMAX 3D at the theater and thought it made the best use of 3D outside of Avatar. Well no 3D on HBO but the sound was definitely dynamic going from soft to loud back and forth depending on if there was air in the scene.
Movie is 9 years old now and both Hubble and ISS are still up there doing their things and looks like they'll continue for around another 9 years. Pretty sure when the ISS finally comes down this movie will be brought up to anyone who's still around 9 years from now. Amazing that both have been up there so long that to an entire generation they have always been up there. Not even JWST is planned to last as long as these two have already been up in space.

Just finished up Eternals. Good lord, I haven't been that bored with a movie in a long time. I also haven't seen a movie that visually dark in a while. Hard to tell what was going on since every scene seemed to be either at night or twilight.“On a lonely planet spinning its way toward damnation amid
the fear and despair of a broken human race, who is left to fight for all
that is good and pure and gets you smashed for under a fiver? Yes, it’s
the surprising adventures of me, Sir Digby Chicken-Caesar!”
