Midway. 7.5/10. Good film, I really enjoyed it. I think you'll enjoy it especially if you already know alot about the events of Pearl Harbor -> Midway. If you're not up to speed with your history, there's alot that may be less meaningful, lots of characters and events that aren't fully fleshed-out. Movie feels a bit like random smatterings of scenes, sortof a 2 hour Midway-montage.

Great performances by tons of great actors. Reasonably well-done special effects, many scenes really give you a sense of the kind of space and tactics that air & sea battles take place.

This could have worked better as a streaming mini-series though. Lots of parts of the story could have been fleshed out better. For example, they make a big deal about the Yorktown being repaired in record time from Pearl Harbor, but they don't really circle back and emphasize it's major role in the battle(s) at Midway, or the fact that it gets destroyed like 5 times and keeps on going. This kind of setup and payoff could have been really great in a longer format. There's lots of story beats that feel like missed-opportunities like that.

My biggest gripe was that their explanation of not participating in previous conflicts was that they were not allowed to and then routinely you see them interfering with humans in multiple times during the 7000 year history.

Anyways I will finish it for sure today maybe but didn’t get off to a good start lol.

Karate Kid 3. 6.7/10. First time viewing, had to watch since Cobra Kai ties into it. Very interesting to see how crazy Terry Silver's character was. Actually I think this movie is well worth watching AFTER Cobra Kai. By itself it's not a good movie. Danny Larusso is insufferable and obnoxious, Mr. Miagi's behavior doesn't make any sense, and the way the film handles the final battle at the tournament was terrible.

Peter Jackson's WWI documentary. Really was amazing. Trench warfare was absolutely brutal, and I could not believe we had so much video footage of it. I would say this film is a must watch for any human.

This. Not sure it deserves all the hate, but yeah it wasn't really a hit either. The last act was pretty messy... seemed like the monster guy got killed too easily, pretty anti-climactic. The giant robot stuff didn't really make much sense either. Actually the whole ending was pretty incohesive and incomprehensible.

Lots of things to like though. I love the idea of making a superhero team out of all the mythic heroes from around the world. Lots of smart character ideas. I loved the relationship between Gilgamesh and Thena, for example.

I don't really get how this works into the rest of the Marvel universe. Guardians of the Galaxy has a part where there's a planet that's the severed head of an ancient celesial being... is that the same as the celestials in this movie? And is that the same as Ego the living planet? Also, how does Thanos have a brother who's also an eternal? And how were there these monsters living on earth that nobody knew about?

Overall, definitely one of the weakest marvel films. Here's my personal ranking of the MCU.

Cosmic darwinism in a struggle pitting superhero eternals protecting humans vs malthusian gods and their genocidal 'deviants'... humans win... the gods are dicks... and the social messaging is overboard on this one... and the story doesnt make a whole lot of sense, I mean why kill humans via deviants if you need their intelligence to feed the new god while its in utero? Ill see the sequel just to see how they kill some more 'gods'

I've readjusted my rating scale for movies as a "good" movie these days would probably be considered as pure trash 15 or so years ago. I don't know if Hollywood has forgotten what makes a good movie or if they're purposefully just not even trying to make a good movie for whatever reason.

Shang Chi and the Legend of the 10 Rings -8/10 surprisingly enjoyable, watched it on the plane, will definitely see it again on a larger screen.

Matrix Resurrections - 5/10. Way to kill a franchise. Fight scenes were terrible, no engaging new visuals... Such a shame. I'll go watch Iron Fist again to watch Jessica Hemwick fight better.
