OK, I changed my mind.

Such an awesome movie. As far as I'm concerned, the Alien movie franchise ended with Aliens. Everything else is utter garbage.- Alien - Groundbreaking sci-fi horror film. Includes some flaws, especially in the last act, but overall very worthy of it's reputation.
- Aliens - Strongest film in the franchise. Practically perfect sci-fi action. More cohesive overall than it's predecessor.
- Alien 3 - Weakest film in the Quadrilogy. Disappointing follow-up, and not what anyone expected or wanted. Still interesting to watch through many years later though, as it has a distinct tone and flavor, and does some new and interesting things with the alien.
- Alien Resurrection - Much lighter tone, reminds me of the Riddick films. Lots of intrigue and interesting plot twists... I think it's a fun film that doesn't always fit well with the rest of the series.
- Prometheus - Fascinating first half, followed by a last act that devolves into nearly incomprehensible action/horror nonsense. Overall I think it's a good movie and I like it.
- Alien Covenant - Bad movie overall, very little of interest to justify the film's existence. I don't know what Ridley Scott was thinking.
- AVP & AVP2 - Bad films, may offer some dumb fun, but a truly tragic missed opportunity. Somehow they missed the bestest and most obvious AVP treatment that everyone wanted: Just remake Aliens but throw in a Predator, like in the comics.

I think I hold the first movie in a bit higher regard than you though. Could very possibly have nostalgic reasons for that however, and/or maybe it was just a more powerful film back then for the time and hasn't aged quite as well for newcomers. It was my favorite movie for a long time when I was a kid in the 80's. I certainly do not agree with your view of the final act of the movie being flawed. Always found it to be super intense and total edge of your seat excitement. **Spoilers for anyone that somehow hasn't seen this yet** I think it was also one of the first movies I ever saw where the monster came back after thinking it was dead. Was a total shocker to me back then and I still remember it being super scary.
Anyways for me I still struggle deciding which in the series I like the most, the first or second movie. Pretty much resigned to the fact they are ultimately different style films that can't really be compared equally. First one is more of a slow burn sci-fi horror/thriller, while the second is more a faster sci-fi action/thriller.

Don't Look Up. 8/10. Good movie. It doesn't become clear what the film is about until about half-way through, when some very clear political themes get fleshed out... it's very on the nose at that point. Very funny movie, but not necessarily in a laugh-out-loud kind of way. Still very clever and entertaining, great performances from a ton of actors. Maybe you don't want to recommend to any friends or family who like to wear red hats though? They won't find it funny.Originally posted by KACTo be honest I never even found doom 3 to be scary since I have a big dick since birth.

Aliens 10/10. Flawless, a masterpiece of sci-fi action. Takes what worked about the first one and ramps everything up to 11. They keep the aliens scary, while still showing much more than the first film, especially the end battle where you really get to see the queen in all her terrifying glory. Amazing costumes and puppetry too, really sells the aliens.
BTW, we watched the extended special edition, which is significantly better than the theatrical version, so that might explain why some people may disagree whether this one is better than the original Alien.
Also, I recall seeing a tv version once, and I think that one was much shorter, and felt like they skipped major chunks of the movie. Like being surprised that they basically skipped straight from the middle of the film straight to the final battle.Originally posted by KACTo be honest I never even found doom 3 to be scary since I have a big dick since birth.
