Have watched Elf, Die Hard, National Lampoon Christmas Vacation, and tried to watch Christmas with the Kranks today. Have never seen the Kranks movie, and didn't even make it 45 minutes in. Didn't enjoy it.

The rest are Christmas standards in this household.

      No Time To Die

It was fine. But way too long. And they had some continuity to the other Daniel Craig Bond movies. I vaguely remembered some of the stuff. But I don't follow Bond movies closely that I was going to pick up on all the stuff from movies that I watched like 10 years ago. I didn't really feel like I missed out on anything, but at the same time I didn't know if I was supposed to know more from the previous movies.

And not enough Ana de Armas.

Don't look up. Well, that was a very strange movie. Still not sure if it was meant to be funny or a drama, maybe a dramedy?

Don’t Look Up - 3/10 - terrible - about the only funny scenes were the last 2 during the credits.

I heard lots of complaining about this film, so I went in with pretty low expectations, but actually I really liked this one. Sure there were a couple of questionable story beats, and I'm still pondering on whether the ending really fits the series, but for the most part I did like the story, characters, etc. Also thought this treatment went a long way toward fixing the problems with the previous film.

                                  The Nowhere In . . . 6/10

The St. Vincent mockumentary on Hulu. Also with Carrie Brownstein, and of course Annie Clark. Sortova mind-bender for this genre.

KAC will enjoy the playtime lingerie scene with Clark and Dakota Johnson (and little else)

It was a good Bond film in general, but there were things I didn't quite like:

                                      1) Lowering the risk of certain action scenes after Daniel Craig got injured

                                      2) Possibly the first Bond movie I've seen where he isn't a playboy... which catering to leftist ideals aside, takes away part of the charm of the character

                                      3) Hottest bond girl is all action, and no booty

                                      4) Last scene where he slumped into the pool where he got infected... REALLY?

All in all a good movie with plenty of action, but I've certainly seen better Craig Bond films.

I have to disagree with you there, everything about Manhunter is better than Red Dragon. Petersen out acts Norton by a mile and Mann's touch is fabulous as is the entire cast.

Red Dragon was a cheap money grab to cash in on Hopkins as Lecter.

Red Dragon was a cheap money grab to cash in on Hopkins as Lecter.

Wife bought me the Quadrilogy for christmas. She's only seen the 2nd one, so this was a first for her.

I have mixed feelings on this one. The first 2/3 of the film is mostly excellent. Great atmosphere, lots of intrigue, nearly perfect pacing, stellar performances from the entire cast, especially Sigourney Weaver. The last act devolves a good bit into incomprehensible horror nonsense... it's just not as tightly constructed as I would have liked.

Ridley Scott has a tendency to do that in his alien films. They start off intriguing, and last half of the film always goes off the rails, in a bad way. Raised by Wolves was similar. Too bad, 'cause I can think of lots of other Ridley Scott films that are nearly flawless all the way to the end. Somehow he likes this formula for alien films though.

One big gripe I have is when the alien goes from being tiny to man-sized, within just a few minutes, without any explanation. Maybe they should have had a scene where the crew discovers that the alien has gotten into the food stash, and being surprised that it has eaten everything. I saw Ridley Scott explain once that the instant-growth twist was done deliberately, to surprise the audience, to make it more mysterious how the creature can defy the laws of physics a bit. I think that's lame and dumb. To me, horror always works better when it's well grounded, follows established rules... otherwise I end up tuning-out a bit in horror films where anything can happen for no reason at any moment.

Luckily the last 5 minutes of the film is strong, so it goes out on a high-note.

Looking forward to watching Aliens next. It's my favorite of the series, by a very large margin..
