Godzilla vs Kong. 7.5/10, fun action movie.
Very different tone than the previous films in the series. WAAAY less grounded to reality, with alot more fun, light-hearted action. It's alot of jumping the shark, having the humans fly in anti-gravity ships, building Mecha-Godzilla, etc. And Godzilla and Kong are both personified perhaps a bit too much... in the other movies they were more like forces of nature, rather than pro-wrestlers. Not necessarily a bad thing to make it a bit more fun, but there's definitely trade-offs there.
I don't really get the complaints about the human plots, as I thought they were mostly fine, and pretty well integrated into the story. The one problem I see is that Millie Bobby Brown & crew are trying to find a way to sever Mecha-Godzilla's wifi connection, and fail... it leaves their storyline dangling a bit. I feel like there must have been a deleted scene in there somewhere.Originally posted by KACTo be honest I never even found doom 3 to be scary since I have a big dick since birth.

I kindof love that type of fantasy story, btw. TMNT stories are often like that, where the turtles live in a totally grounded world around them, and contrasts the ridiculousness of the turtles against that backdrop... really pushes the theme of them as outcasts who don't belong. Actually the long TMNT arcs usually start that way, and then gradually introduce more fantasy elements and characters, until eventually the turtles are the one grounded element among a universe of crazy ridiculous stuff. Think Cuddly the Cowlick, transporting the turtles across the universe to fight the Triceritons, etc.
Back on topic, I think that jumping the shark actually works for Godzilla vs Kong, as that's what happened with the old movies. They started out grounded, and eventually got cheesy and stupid... this movie seems to pay homage to that trend. If they do a sequel, it should push the cartoonishness even farther, imo.Originally posted by KACTo be honest I never even found doom 3 to be scary since I have a big dick since birth.

Kevin Smith: Silent But Deadly . . . 7.5/10
This is really a long stand-up set, ~ 1:30 runtime. Smith can carry it off because he's such a good storyteller. It's a pretty good mix of personal stuff and celeb stuff. imDb has this as a documentary and it's long-ish, so I thought movie rather than TV thread.
Oh yeah, it's funny. When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.

Playing catch up
Kong: Skull Island - Loved it. The "fun" of the beginning of the movie completely turns on it's head the moment the tree takes out the first helicopter. Great film, awesome location, the island was it's own character.
Godzilla: King of the Monsters - Good. Not great. They kind of go back on some of their own lore. Mutos were parasites, but all of a sudden there's another one and it's showing submission to Godzilla at the end? I don't know. Decent throughout, really kind of enjoy the world building, (Titans, ancient civilizations, etc etc. ) Mothra was a freaking bad ass and wish had more screen time.
Godzilla vs Kong - ****... I don't know what to say. The whole thing felt forced just to have them fight. Did not feel organic in the slightest. Skull Island pretty much being destroyed in a storm killing all the inhabitants? And all you get is a throwaway line about it? There's just so much more I could go on about. Ultimately disappointing and I loved the direction the new movies were taking. Maybe I'll give it another go. I did mainline Skull Island, King of the Monsters, and then this one all in one day, so maybe I was fatigued.
If I had to rank them all it would probably be in order of appearance. Godzilla > Kong > King of Monsters >>>>> Godzilla vs Kong.
And since this was another movie I watched recently.
Baahubali: The Beginning - Watched this one a couple weeks ago. Musical numbers were like weird surreal straight up music videos in this one. That combined with the over the top stuff had me enjoying it quite a bit. Had a real fun time with it up until they were fighting an invading army made up entirely of people in black face. Which... was something. Oof... I want to watch the second one, but after that, I don't know.“On a lonely planet spinning its way toward damnation amid
the fear and despair of a broken human race, who is left to fight for all
that is good and pure and gets you smashed for under a fiver? Yes, it’s
the surprising adventures of me, Sir Digby Chicken-Caesar!”

So, after rewatching the first/original Child's Play few days ago, I rewatched Child's Play 2 (1990). The ending part that takes place in the toy factory is still awesome.

Damn, I'm still getting disappointed when I think about it. Like at the end of King of Monsters that the "eco terrorists" got the head, and then somehow sold it to the "humans are the best" tech bro? Why does the lore of a ****ing Godzilla movie annoy me this much.... ARGH!“On a lonely planet spinning its way toward damnation amid
