On Her Magesty's Secret Service. 7/10. Movie is an average old Bond movie. Lead actor doesn't have as much personality as Sean Connery, and the twist at the end is stupid.

“Are you at all concerned, as Trump said, that we cannot let the cure be worse than the problem itself?” Haines asked.

Biden noted in his reply that the COVID-19 cure “will make the problem worse, no matter what.”

Diamonds Are Forever. Another highly-watchable popcorn flick. Some continuity issues with the previous films, though. (Spoiler tag for the 1 or 2 people on the planet who haven't seen all the Bond films.) No mention of Bond's wife who was killed at the end of the previous film. Just a vague mention of Bond having time off, then a continuation of the hunt for Blofeld. There is also no continuity across the 3 films of what Blofeld looked like. In You Only Live Twice, Blofeld is bald and has a hug scar on his face & right eye. In Her Majesty's Secret Service, he's bald but has no scar. In Diamonds Are Forever, he has hair. 3 different actors, but no explanation for why he looks completely different. Also, in Her Majesty's Secret Service, Blofeld doesn't recognize Bond, yet they met in the previous film.

For me this is the weakest of the Connery Bond films. But Jill St. John makes it all so much better....

Fun little detail in the George Lazenby film. At the beginning, when he rescues Tracy and she doesn't immediately fall for him (but runs away instead), he turns to the camera and says "That never happened to the other guy", referring to Sean Connery's Bond.

                              High Fidelity . . . 7/10

I just love the new Zoe Kravitz reboot on Hulu, so I re-watched the original John Cusack/ Jack Black film from 2000. The TV show drew more from the movie/book than I realized.

Top 1 reason for not rating it higher: there's virtually zero ending.

Yup, we did the same thing. Wife had never seen the movie before, so it was fascinating for her to see all the similarities.

I think they squandered a huge opportunity though, in making her mom a white lady. They could have dangled out that her mom might be played by Lisa Bonet, and that Zoe Kravitz may have purchased the record shop from John Cusack. I was really hoping to see some continuity there, but ah well.

Live and Let Die. 5/10. As we've been surveying our way through the old Bond movies, this is definitely the worst so far. I hope the other Roger Moore movies are better. Only redeeming value is Jane Seymore, who has a surprisingly nice rack.

So Far we've watched Goldfinger, On Her Magesty's Secret Service, and Live and Let Die... and all the Brosnan films. Next up is License to Kill.

We decided to survey one movie from each actor (except Brosnan and Craig who we're already very familiar with), and then we'll decide whether to keep going after that.

For choosing which movie for each actor to watch, i just googled around a bit to try to find the best representative example... although I think my results are suspect, especially since Live and Let Die sucked so bad.

Try The Spy Who Loved Me for Moore. Personally I think its one of his best.

For Dalton I think Living Daylights is better but both are OK.

For Dalton I think Living Daylights is better but both are OK.
Yeah, I think we'll prolly end up watching both Dalton movies, since there's only 2 anyway, and I'm told that they both stand up well.

Mostly we're trying to avoid starting with the truly aweful 007 movies, as that would definitely deter us. I doubt we'll make it through the whole franchise, but it'd be nice to feel like we've watched all the good films.

Live And Let Die. A decent first romp for Roger Moore. And HOLY COW Jane Seymour was/still is freakin gorgeous.
Oh and best Bond intro song in the whole series. Paul McCartney & Wings.

We're watching them all in order of release. Though, there are plenty of continuity issues with the older films so you can't go into it expecting a coherent saga.

I think they squandered a huge opportunity though, in making her mom a white lady. They could have dangled out that her mom might be played by Lisa Bonet, and that Zoe Kravitz may have purchased the record shop from John Cusack. I was really hoping to see some continuity there, but ah well.
I'm drawing a big 0 on the white mom character. Whereabouts would I find a scene with her? Neat-0 idea, btw.

It's fun watching the green-screen and miniature effects evolve over time. They were terrible in the earlier films, but overall pretty good here. I had forgotten just how much I liked Roger Moore as Bond.

It's fun watching the green-screen and miniature effects evolve over time. They were terrible in the earlier films, but overall pretty good here. I had forgotten just how much I liked Roger Moore as Bond.

I suppose they could still work it in somehow, like maybe that's actually her step mom, adopted mom, etc., and bring Lisa Bonet in later on... 'doesn't seem like that's where they want to take the story though.

Without the hype of a theater release, I've much less love for the franchise. "Yeah yeah you're gonna blow up a thing and you're torn between light and dark yada yada". Of course, it's not my first viewing, so I wonder if the experience will be different with Ep9, where I'll actually have to pay attention again.

sure TFA wasn't so bad.... it played it safe and was a retread of things we saw before but left us with a solid starting point for this new trilogy then disney showed us there was absolutely zero plan by letting another director go on a taco bell and chipotle binge for a week then have explosive diarrhea on a rough outline of a story that was likely written by someone who was hit in the head with a brick 5 minutes into writing and told to keep going

the prequels had shitty dialogue and some lazy directing and could have used some people telling lucas an idea was stupid... the sequels were a high quality fan film, Ed from Ed, Edd, and Eddy running around going "i make a star war", then Edd and Eddy trying to clean up Ed's mess
