In 9 days we get our new family member. She is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and is officially known as Kariann from Barnim. I can not express how much I am looking forward to the girl dog.

I used to have a blenheim one like that but I lost that to my ex.
I have a tri-color one now. It's a really good breed.

I'm surprised that there are so many fans of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniels on this board. My mother also had one (blenheim) and because of that I always loved them. We were thinking about getting a dog for allmost a year now. It could obviously only be a Cavalier. Now there are only a few days left until we have one. Yeha!

The Cavies are great little dogs. You have to make sure they come from a breeder who is actively trying to reduce the prevalence of MVD though (Mitral Valve disease. Causes heart murmurs, shortened life.)

Thanks for the tips, Ozzy. The breeder couple are veterinarians and breeding nearly 30 years Cavaliere. They have per breeding pair not more than 1 - max. 2 litters a year and pay close attention to the vulnerabilities of the dogs.

At first I tried to give an old Cavalier still a good home. My idea was: Why breed a puppy when there are enough older doggies who are looking for a new owner? But after a long search I had to see that not many people are given away an older Cavalier. And so we came back to the breeder of my mother's dog. Precisely that Vet couple. Now we get on Friday (17:07.) our little Kariann.

Woke up, noticed he was licking an area and was missing fur there. Realized it was an abscess and was going necrotic, brought him to vet for overnight surgery. He was outside for a few hours last week when I was making food and didnt realize he slipped out, the vet thinks he got bit in that time frame.

The bill was a spooky $666

Dogs don't stay with us long enough.

I expected I'd be really sad when he would pass away but I didn't expect it to be this devastating. It actually feels worse than when my grandma died three a months ago (I actually took that photo during her funeral).

My wife's little dude doing his best to look dignified after a brutal hour of fetch. He's starting to get up in years, closing on 10 pretty fast. Funny thing, I don't care for small dogs normally, but I'm going to have a tough time when this guy goes.
