Was doing some research as your post got me curious- would it be possible to get your fingers in there and break the dog's jaw? Obviously no real answers, but I really think that'd be my first reaction. Why? If I succeed then I win. Dog cannot bit, my dog is safe and the other dog is out of commission. And I imagine if it is realistically doable it'd happen pretty quickly so it'd bring the whole situation to an abrupt end before any other damage could happen.
One suggest was to get a stick and wedge it into the aggressive dogs mouth, as close to the hinge of its jaw as you can. Didn't really say what to do after that though.
Another suggestion, and Oz may like this one as well, grab the dog's balls. I'm 100% certain this one would work. It's effectiveness increases the harder you squeeze 'em. I don't think I could do this though. 
I dunno' man you're probably right about the dog not noticing if you started beating it. Then again I have to believe survival instinct would have to kick in at some point- convince the dog that you WILL kill it and I think it'd have to turn its attention towards you or attempt to run from you. That would be what I'd try and get it to do- fear for it's very freaking life.
But I'm being an armchair quarterback. I hope I'm never in that position man, and again props for handling it so level headed.

Choking it out by compressing its carotid artery would've worked yesterday and I was in a perfect position to do it and was trying to. I just had no idea how to do it properly.
I like the pepper spray idea most though. Much less risk all around. On another note, no incidents at the dog park today. Now I don't get to tell any more cool stories and can go back to being boring.
