Hybrids...illegal to own a full blood wolf. With good reason. They live by the law of tooth and claw. Dominance is everything to them. Fortunately they luv's me.
Sorry no pics I am far to lazy to take a pic, upload it someplace then link it here.Rude, crude and socially unacceptable

Since we're sharing about the pet's we've lost...
The Grand 'Ol Lady, aka "Missy".
She was my first dog. My parents weren't wealthy, so growing up we didn't have a lot of luxuries other kids had. My parents still did the best they could with what they had.
Naturally my siblings and I wanted a dog, but my parents always rented and the landlords were strict about pets, so we never had one.
Well when I was about 8 years old my parents finally bought their first house. Shortly there after they agreed to get us a dog.
My Mom and Dad visited the local animal shelter to pick one out, and they had found one they liked, but they wanted us to have a look at the options and then give them our opinion. My parents had picked out Missy and their logic was simple- all of the dogs were barking and going berserk... except for Missy. She was in the furthest cage at the end of the room, sitting quietly tail slightly wagging. When my parents got about a cage away she let out just a single bark. One simple bark. They looked over at her and knew- she was the one.
Fast forward to a week later when my parents were bringing her home. They let us know that morning before school that by the time we got home our new dog would be waiting for us. They did not tell us which dog they had chosen. Naturally my mind was fixated on which dog they'd choose all day long, and I could not wait to get home. I distinctly remember racing my older brother and older sister home from school (we rode our bikes). They being older than I by a few years beat me of course.
Last one through the gate to our back yard so I could put my bike away my heart is nearly bursting from excitement! I can hear everyone in the back talking excitedly. I kept going down the walk way by the side of the house, and I distinctly remember as I neared the back yard Missy peeked around the corner of the house and looked right at me, then happily turned back around and went out of sight. I put my bike up and raced into the back yard- there my parents and older siblings were gathered in a circle with Missy playfully bounding from one to the other.
She was between 2 and 4 when we got her, folks at the pound weren't sure of her age. Nor her exact breeds. We figured some German Shepherd and... Husky? Collie? Not sure to be honest. But I can say that she proved to be the best dog I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. At her peak she weighed only 65lbs, but that dog was a mountain of love and affection for our family.
She ran a black bear off the property (cub), and multiple times when camping we'd have black bears pay us a visit. Thank God she was chained up at those times cause she had every intention of tearing into those bears. She'd have been little more than a play toy to them, but she was bound and determined to defend her family.
Another time I distinctly remember, and it wrecks me I don't have any pictures or videos to share as this was well before digital cameras and camcorders were popular. Cameras and especially camcorders were big and bulky so we didn't have either. My Dad, a friend of mine from church, and I went back packing... I believe it was into Deadfall Lake. Well we brought Missy as always (she was our campin' pup). I had put her food, leash, toys, water dish, etc in two separate small back packs. Each pack was small enough for a toddler to wear and even combined weren't all that heavy. Yep I strapped them to her so she could be just like us and pack her own things in. And she did! Didn't slow her down in the least. In fact after I got her situated and then turned to put on my own pack next thing I know I hear her barking at us profusely- she was at the trail head waiting for us! She knew the drill. Mind you, she was at the wrong trail head, but she had the right idea.
I believe it was almost two years ago that she passed. I've long since moved out of my parents' house, in fact I'm a good 4 1/2 hours away now. But I recall the night during a Skype call with the folks when they broke the news to me. My Mother had come home from work to see Missy in the front yard, laying in one of her favorite sun spots. Mind you she was old... 18 years old at the youngest, so she had gotten hard of hearing. Well my Mom called to her and Missy didn't respond. Initially my Mom didn't think anything of it, just that maybe Missy was snoozing and hadn't heard my Mother. Well Mom made it through the front gate and that's when she could tell something was off. She got closer and that's when she saw the small puddle of vomit with a slight amount of blood in it. Missy's eyes were open, and she looked happy (or so my Mother said), staring out into the front yard.
We do believe she waited to go. All of her children (my two older siblings, myself, and my little sister) were all grown up on moved out, and nobody was home to see her pass. My Mom said it didn't look like she struggled any, or was in any pain.
I'm 100% positive our pets are going to be waiting for us in Heaven. I know she's up there, being kept company with our Lord. And I know when I near those gates and see Jesus, she'll be at His side.
And I'm officially a sobbing mess right now. They are family, and that's why it hurts so much when they go.

Well, I'll post the other critters of the family, staying true to the thread topic.
The Three Stooges:
Chakeetah is on the bottom, Chica is the smaller one on the left, and Bodacious is the bigger one on the right. Chakeetah is my 2nd favorite dog, ranked just beneath Missy. I'm not one for small dogs, but when little Nanna (Chakeetah) goes I'll be torn up yet again. Bo and Chica my parents got after I moved out so I'm not really attached to them.
Then there's Dixie:
Though it goes against our families Code of Conduct, we did have to give Dixie away. I'm not in a position to have kept her where I'm presently renting, and my parents couldn't keep up with her, fortunately she was still young, and the people we gave her to are taking fantastic care of her.
Now for the big doggies that bark funny...
Here's Dubber- RIP old girl.
Salem-
And his Momma', Kiki (aka "Pop tart Girl", she's on the right in this picture)...
Probably not this year, but hopefully next year I may get back into riding. My pastor has given me permission to use his land (about 8 acres). Gonna' have to clear a lot of brush, down a bunch of trees, build the round pen, build some stalls and a place to keep hay, and section off enough of his land to form a pasture for them to free roam. But I look forward to getting a horse or two. Dubber died probably 5 years ago now, Salem we sold cause he was just a butt head and with me not being home as much got to be too much to handle. Kiki is still there with a new friend, Starfire-
.
Both gals are calm spirited and much easier to maintain. They'll not be in the family much longer though as my parents are selling their house to move up into the mountains where I'm living.
Anyhow, now I'm sad cause I miss Missy, sad cause I don't have any horses at the moment and miss riding... frick where'd I put my beer!?!??

Originally posted by JohnEJohn View PostSad to hear daPhoenix, also it's understandable that you feel that way, you had a strong emotional attachment to your cat, only an animal lover would get that.
Due to his extreme age we had no choice but to take him to the vet, had him cremated afterwards and buried him under his favourite tree.
Worst part is I know the person whose dogs they were, if it had been some completely random person I would've gone there and beat the **** out of them but now I can't do anything - just have to try to get them to fork out money because the whole operation was insanely expensive.:: We are all the sum of our tears.
:: Too little and the ground is not fertile and nothing can grow there.
:: Too much and best of us is washed away.

His particular mix is called a Texas heeler. Blue heeler/Australian shephard mix.
I can't imagine a better dog, he's changed my life for the better in so many ways. /sappiness

Originally posted by .nox View PostGotcha. I want an Akita, also looked at the Shiba Inu. Cool "little" fellas the Akitas
Like other hunting dogs, things would get ugly fast if he doesn't get sufficient obedience training. If you have small pets (rats, rabbits, birds, etc..), don't ever place them next to a Shiba. They'd hurt/eat them as though they were prey. If you're not tolerant of high pitch noises, their signature Shiba scream (a result of no constant attention) would drive you insane. Make sure he acknowledges you as the leader of the pack. If you don't, you're simply asking for trouble. With his rogue-like personality, you WOULD become his slave.
If it wasn't for me who loved him endlessly through these two years (actually had big arguments with my mum just for him), my mother would've put him in a pet kennel and not look back.
With all the negativity out of the way, Mickey is the most loyal/protecting pet I've ever had. Stubborn as he is at times, his way of convincing you do things would certainly make you smile (*hint he is extremely smart). The way he greets me when I go home (biting a toy, wagging his tale, with the most genuine smile you'd ever see); how he says good morning by kissing my cheeks and lay right next to me asking for a belly rub... haha it's priceless. Now I don't know if it's the same for all Shibas, but Mickey is extremely attached to me. No matter where I go, 80% of the time he follows. When I'm out for work, he goes around looking for me. Once he realizes I'm not there, he waits by the main door until I return. Now he does get distracted by food every now and then, but you get the idea.
Now I don't know how Akitas are, but here's a nice simple comparison of both breeds:
https://www.google.com.hk/search?q=a...GQCg&gws_rd=cr
From what I can see, Akita's are shorter lived (10 years compared to 12-15 of the Shiba) and more than 3x as heavy.
Like all bigger breeds, make sure to at least walk him 20-30min a day.
Hope this helps.Last edited by Chuck; Mar 11, 2014, 07:26 PM.
