not sure what to think of that, she manages to put some surprising power into that song, granted. Let's say it's an interesting cover

I like how they panned the sound of the acoustic on the left and that other small guitar - what is that? - on the right. I really need to buy a better headphone, mine is a really cheap one, the sound is cracking on the right ear :/ This pandemic increased the prices so much, it is ridiculous.

yep. They did some really cool covers. Also you seem to be a big fan of Nightwish. I loved their older stuff. I'm not a big fan of their newer stuff though.

I actually only started listening to Nightwish in this pandemic. For some weird reason youtube decided to recommend me a song from them to listen and I clicked (Ghost Love Score. I wasn't even listening to any music back then). Of course, everything started with the Wacken 2013 concert. I'm taking my time listening to some of their earlier work (Nemo and Wishmaster with Tarja, Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean with Floor, Storytime with Anette), but I'm just impressed by this last album they released (Human Nature). And Floor just sounds so amazing live. Tarja voice is really powerful, but there is just something in Floor's voice tone/color that bewitches me. And when she harmonizes with Marco is just perfect.

Amy Lee's voice is something else too. I really like Evanescence.

Lyrics for the song above.
To look up into the night's sky, to see the stars they are changed
To know a thousand years or more have passed, and I am the same
This mountain hollow that keeps me in a suffocating embrace
A prison and a safe haven, it's always been this way
Lo, a new master calls me to awakening, I know this one brings the end
Far out beyond the darkness I've been living in it's true, a whole new world awaits
Stellar constellations rise, lighting my way in the night
Once again revitalized, to roam; to never die
My path begins with the new dawn; a voice is calling my name
It always starts as whispering then manifests to a scream
I'm drawn to the creature that wakes me, bound to them by the curse
My soul exists only to serve, a covenant of birth
Fear not the task ahead there's no escaping it, there's no good nor evil here
Stellar constellations rise, lighting my way in the night
Once again revitalized, to roam; to never die
Come to me, awakening
Follow my voice, come to me
Fear not the task ahead there's no escaping it, there's no good nor evil here
Stellar constellations rise, lighting my way in the night
Once again revitalized, to roam; to never
Lighting my way in the night
To roam; to never die

I know when it comes to Nightwish everyone fights over the vocalists. But, I think part of it is more the style of music. The older stuff just wasn't as big.
The newer albums just have so much orchestrations and all that stuff. And they've had a few more thematic albums too. And for some reason, to me, it makes it somehow end up being a little more bland and have less character. It's hard to describe, but the last few albums I feel like most of the songs sound the same.

"Dark Passion Play" was one of their best albums so far, of course "Once" too. As for the lead singer, yeah, that's still something people are fighting over. Personally i think that both Tarja and Floor have their very own style, both fit very well into the style of the band.

Was not expecting such a high pitched voice from this singer when he appearedNice song, I just didn't like the use of the synth towards the end of the music, it felt out of place. Maybe I'm just not used to it.
---------------
Speaking of growling/screaming, I know it can add some elements to the music. Most of the time I have a really hard time trying to understand what most of the singers are saying, besides for a full song it sounds too aggressive, it bothers me. An example of growling I can actually understand and doesn't bother me so much, Tatiana from Jinjer has a really nice voice when she is not growling.

Or even Courtney from Spiritbox

I would really like for them to not scream at me
Devin I can understand sometimes too.Last edited by Taturana; Aug 27, 2020, 04:34 PM.

The lead singer from Beast in Black, Yannis Papadopoulos, has an unbelievable vocal range. I really like most of his stuff.

As for the growling, well, i'm not a big fan of it when it's used too often. As you've pointed out, i'd like a lot bands way more if they'd use the growling a little less.
In the end it's, as usual, personal preference.

A lot of grit in her voice. What is the song about?
I Am The Night Wind
I'm the one who brushes through your hair,
Who gently touches your shoulder,
The one who's familiar to you and yet so strange,
The one who furiously combs your part crooked
I am the night wind.
The one who makes flames dance for you
And plays a shadow game for you,
Who kisses rainbow puddles,
And pours mist on your skin.
The one who lifts up the bear-black forest,
Who sticks leaves to the panes,
Who softly whispers a dream
And plays with your skirt hem.
I am the night wind.
Refrain:
I am the night wind
And know no sunlight.
You feel me on your skin,
But you don't see me.
I'm just the night wind,
The one who touches you gently,
Who loses himself in dance with you.
I drive a dark cloud in front of the moon,
Which towers high in the sky for you.
I blow window sashes back and forth,
I sweep all the streets empty for you.
I make the embers glow brightly for you,
I strangely play my melodies.
I gently brush over your face
I blow out the candlelight for you.

and yes, she has a lot of grit, definitely

Nice message. One thing that I didn't really like in the song itself was the key change. It didn't have any link from the sound before, it was weird.
-----------
Turn on the subtitles in english, since this a a Mongolian band.

I don't think they (The Hu) are wrong in doing colabs. It gives them a better exposure in markets that would not even have heard of them. They are the first Mongolia band I have ever heard in my life (not because of the colabs, I found out from one of the reactors in youtube I follow). For this particular version of Wolf Totem, I think the drums are actually hurting the melody. It is not bad, since you can just feel the head bobbing almost instantaneously. But if you listen to the original version, the drums sound are there, but those big Mongolian drums, not a traditional drum kit, the sound is much bigger.
This Falling in Reverse song has a nice use of synth being used to fill the spaces between the drums and guitar, clever. I didn't like much when the melody got heavier (after 2:30), I think the song could exist without it.
------------
The bass tone is just perfect for me.
