Rumor Mill : AMD Secures Exclusive Hynix HBM2 Priority

Okay, huge grain of salt needed with this, like maybe a salt rock or something weighty perhaps as the original source was wccftech, but it was juicy enough for Guru3D to think newsworthy, and I concur. AMD may have snagged a significant victory by locking down priority shipments of HBM2 for the next generation over Nvidia's Pascal. If true, it would be a significant win because HBM2 will be limited in quantity at launch.

Based on a claim from 'sources within AMD' AMD is trying to get their hands on pretty much all HBM2 memory to block Nvidia. Nvidia will be using HBM2 with Pascal GPUs that should be released in 2016.

Typical AMD trying to use unethical practices to gain an advantage. Im so sick of them being allowed to get away with things like this.

Ummmm, yer pointing fingers? Over ETHICS??? In the GPU BUSINESS? You are kidding, right? And certainly not trying to say Nvidia is any more ethical, are you??? That would be ridiculous to assert. Nvidia locking out the competition is one of their most infamous traits.

        Omega in troll mode.
I was banned from P&R because I refer to it as an echo chamber.

Echo Chamber - "an environment in which a person encounters only beliefs or opinions that coincide with their own, so that their existing views are reinforced and alternative ideas are not considered."

This is considered trolling and a personal attack according to Curio. FYI in case you decide to step in there. I wonder if the definition of irony is known...

Meh, trolls will be trolls. But anyway, I don't think this rumor is true, or at least only partially true perhaps at best. But if true, it could be a hella win for AMD to put Pascal on delay with this tactic, and honestly seems like fair pay back for all the dirty tricks Nvidia plays regularly. I hope AMD actually manages to pull this one off, but am not holding my breath... the original source IS wccftech after all...

since amd has been working with Hynix on hbm for 2 years or so, so don't see why it would not be true

my question is why they let nv use it at all

and wccf did get a lot of fury right

Unless AMD produces the memory themselves they can only influence the memory makers so much.

AMD doesn't make the chips so if the manufacturer wants to maximize profits they will sell to everyone and ignoring Nvidia (the leader in sales by a large margin) would be stupid.

It's no different from LG and Samsung making parts for Apple...

How is securing a majority supply of new memory tech(one they helped develop) unethical? I call it smart business.

if it was Nvidia with all the patents on hbm do you honestly think they would let amd have it free or use it at all

and are LG and Samsung using those apple parts or selling them to others

This is obviously sarcasm. But it is an admission that Nvidia does routinely use unethical practices.

Of course not, Nvidia would milk it for all it is worth and then milk it some more.
