Steam patches won't require Valve approval soon

Game patches released through Steam will soon no longer need to be approved by Valve; developers will be able to push patches live as they see fit. What this means for you is more patches and more often, though with at least a slightly higher risk of issues.

The valve approval was useless anyways, just look at dead island, valve approved several patches in a row that completely broke the game.

If nothing else it eliminates the time spent waiting for Valve to click the big red button, which is something.

I imagine Valve has better things to do than approve every developer's patches. Sounds like an ok thing to me.

Good thing is that developers could get patches out sooner. Bad thing is that games with already horrible programming will get an ever ending release of game breaking patches. Look at what happened to Arma and Arma 2.

Excellent! Developers should have control over updating their products.

Did Valve actually do any QA with any of those patches? i imagine it'd simply be impossible as they have thousands of games and there's no way in hell they could check the quality of each patch released.

                          Yeah, that's a good question.

I'm pretty sure it was just that Valve had to push the patches through themselves. They've actually had this capability for a while now I think.

It also lets you patch without needing to download an entire archive.

WHQL does force your drivers to pass certain tests.
