I bet it will be only show off, something that in real life will not be broadly available to everyone (GTX690 because of its price or GTX670Ti/660 out of stock status - hello TSMC )

I hope I'm wrong cause my next buy will be overpriced 670 or 660 (card that should cost half of it's real price.

                      It's all about bragging rights.

Sell more lower end cards because you can claim to have the fastest (most expensive) card. Even if the lower end card might have a poorer price/performance ratio than the competition.

As much as I want it to be the 690 so I can make the jump. Itd be a bad move to not get something in the mid range first.

Well Chevy had Corvettes, Dodge/Chrysler had the Viper and Ford had the Mustang Cobra/Saleen and GT40s or just Ford GTs so yeah it sure as hell works to brag or boast that you have the fastest or most expensive and then sell economy parts by the butt load.

Both ATI/AMD and Nvidia have done it in the past but holy crap...
