    About those Sea Islands...

A slide has appeared, which purports to show that the next generation series of cards, currently under the name Sea Islands, but we're pretty sure is Canary Islands, has a card called Tenerife. It's a GCN v2.0 4.5TFLOP monster.

Thanks to forum member jam2k for the link.

With CEBIT and GDC coming up this month, this could be a real slide from a 'teaser' presentation. Or it could be completely made up.

GCN 2.0 shaders... probably marketing, but curious about such changes. is the 20% improvement due to shader tweaks or high clocks?

So these are the dual GPU cards right?? I mean they just released the 7970 or are they resurrecting the XT or Pro names?

I don't know but seems a bit fishy..

Spelling.. Grammar, lack of HDMI, 4.5 TFlop (SP) is very attainable today using an OCed Tahiti.. only thing on there that seems plausible is the GCN 2.0 (which iirc) was slated to appear late 2012/early 2013.
Fermi Paradox*: "The apparent size and age of Fermi die suggests that many technologically advanced GPUs ought to exist.
However, this hypothesis seems inconsistent with the lack of observational evidence to support it."

The GPU coming out in late this year early next year will have a lot more than 20% more compute power.
This is clearly an extension. Like 9800 from 9700, x850 from x800, x1900 from x1800. We just have never seen this since literally the x1900.

Well I am somehow thinking that the 28nm process is really capable of much more but AMD is being conservative since Nvidia has not released anything yet, that is pretty obvious and predictable I guess specially if its released one week or the same day as the high end Kepler or they just wait until the end of the year which seems more plausible like you said.

Then again I don't think they are really going to try any price wars but lets see what happens.

maybe Im getting old but weren't the 9800 and x850 merely clock increases (from 9700 and x800 respectively) where as the x1900 had actual architectural differences ?
