MSI's 890FXA-GD65 Already Compatible with Bulldozer core 'Zambezi' processors?

MSI's 890FXA-GD65 mainboard featuring the AMD 890FX chipset may be one of the first mainboards to offer drop-in compatibility with upcoming 'Zambezi' desktop CPU's - featuring AMD's new Bulldozer core.

Available now at Newegg for a lean $139.99 with free shipping, the board printing indicates AM3+ CPU support - the new CPU socket compatibility required for the next generation CPU's due in Q2 2011.

Thanks to long-time forum member Qamly for the heads up.

    Memner?
Trying to find out more information for this board, I found this thread on Msi's forum.

According to the tech they spoke with, it just needs a BIOS update ?

    Still trying to verify this.

I don't see anywhere on the links that this board supports BD. It doesn't say AM3+ anywhere plus I thought AMD made it clear BD has to use a AM3+ chipset. Now AMD can be clearer on BD abled chipsets and motherboards.

Edit, never mind, I see it is printed on the board, maybe the image is actually a 900 series chipset board, who knows.

It's printed on the board, and it's an 890FX chipset board - it's on sale now.

AMD said Zambezi will use AM3+ socket, which may require new chipsets. AM3+ is an electrical upgrade for the phases and power states that Zambezi will use. MSI might have designed their board to compatible electrically, so that the processors will work, but that may lack some features because of 890FX chipset limitations. I speculate.

Yes good to know, would be nice to know of any limitations or not. Well a few months will probably not hurt me one way or another even though I have cash ready to burn for an upgrade.

I'll wait for 990FX. But it's still neat to see 890 potentially having BD support.

I wish I saw this a few hours sooner... My newegg order with a new am3 board in it just shipped -.-

It's likely there will be no difference between the 890FX and the 990FX outside of minor tweaks if that but the SB950 should have several upgrades like USB3.0
