NVIDIA Has "Absolutely No Plans" to Kill the GeForce GTX 470

The rumor mill doesn't always hit the mark.

. Early this morning, we linked a story that said Nvidia had stopped taking orders for its GeForce GTX 470 graphics card, presumably to make way for a rumored GTX 465 product. We've now just gotten off the phone with Nvidia, and the firm strongly ruled out any such action:
"The GTX 470 is really important for us from a product perspective. It's basically our best price-performance product in the enthusiast line, so we have absolutely no plans of discontinuing that. Actually we are enhancing that part of the product line over the next month or so."

The company went on to talk about a "good, better, best" product arrangement, adding, "We feel that there's some room below [the GTX 470 and GTX 480] for a reasonably priced version of our GF100 [graphics processor]."

So, there you have it. You can probably look forward to three GF100-based graphics card cohabitating in the marketplace before too long—and the GTX 470 doesn't sound likely to vanish from store shelves anytime soon.
