    newbie questions. what is WU?

hi, I joined Team Rage3D today, and installed the graphic console version.
What is the definition of WU(working unit)?
How is the score calculated? How is the result submitted?
To, what extent does it use video card's processing power?
What is the grphic i'm seeing in the console?
Does it represent the actual work in progress?
Can someone briefly describe what the graphic I'm seeing represents?

I do have a degree in Biochemistry, LOL...but i'm just too lazy to search for answers...since I don't have much knowledeg in programming/software and so on...

In the graphical version, the WU (x/100) represents a frame out of one total WU. Therefore once 100/100 frames have been completed, 1 WU is complete. You'll need an internet connection for the results to be uploaded to the statistics page. The graphics card won't be doing much (usually more for using the graphical interface/screensaver).

My best bet to you is to run the console version, since I have had better luck with it.
    الله أكبر!

      let me see

nope, can't even think it out....but anyway> what you're seeing is a protein folding in super slowmotion, depending on the speed of your system and the size of the protein being folded, using my p3-800 and a proteinA for example> the 800 took 48hrs to complete the fold which in realtime = 1NS [nanosecond]

me too, back to my wine

... and how is a score calculated anyway?
I just noticed that I had 15 wu this morning and all day long I now have 17. is this normal for a 1.5 gig rig? seems a little lacking.

Different work units are worth different amounts of points, depending on how big they are (how long they take to complete). Some are worth less than one point, and finish pretty quickly. Then, there are the big boys that take forever, but are worth 5 points.

ok, then what is the meaning of frames in Folding@home software? Do I I interpet it in same line as frame rates when playing games?

They're just divided into frames, usually 100. The advantage of this to you is that once a frame is completed and written to the disk, you won't have to do that frame again if your quit the program or your crash or something.

I wanted to mention that the graphical displayed proteins are probably not related to the work you're doing, just a bunch of balls on the screen. The reason I think this is that it will display that before doing any work, like while downloading the core_65 right after installing, or while uploading work.
