    So my PC crashed

I have no idea what caused it, though I reckon letting it fold 24/7 wasn't a good idea afterall, I don't even know what failed (yet, I got it pinned down to memory/mb/cpu, though I doubt it's the memory and someone told me if there are no beeps then the mb is dead) As I was planning on buying a new PC anyway I went ahead and orderred my stuff, only thing that's crap about it is the graphics card, I don't want a new graphics card just yet (Originally I was going to go R520 but then R580 would come along and then it's only a bit till R600 ... yes I have a lot of patience when it comes to hardware lol ) So I'll be gaming on an Radeon 300SE for some months to come ... Well it'll be change of setting from my trusty 9700 pro
I am wondering if I'll continue folding, not saying it is some destructive program (that steals your megahurtzzz ), but I think of it in this way: hardware isn't perfect, there are bound to be imperfections, folding will merely bring up the imperfections sooner than "normal". I'm wondering if I want that, I'm paying for this myself (not relying on mommy and daddy) so I want it to last as long as possible.

The most common reason that folding would cause damage to a compy is if there were heat issues, which would have burned out whatever was the problem to begin with eventually, especially if you're doing any gaming. Have any dust bunnies copulating in your computer?

His PC realized what it was about to do and got scared.
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in a pretty, pristine body but rather to come sliding in sideways, all used up and exclaiming, "Wow, what a ride!"

Oh my yes, dust is/was a serious problem with my PC. The new case I'll have should reduce it a lot as it has a filter and according to what I've read air should only be able to pass through the filter. I've removed F@H on my sister her PC now too, that's a real dusty case, I openned it up and flocks of dust came out! And she cleans her room regularly
Anyway the question is if the filter is any good, if it is I might continue folding with just my new PC. (It's an antec P150 if anybody has that case)

            Meh I wouldn't worry, with my 3800+ X2 I'll never attaign the same ppd as I had with my 2.66GHz P4 & 450 pointers + 3GHz P4 & 2 instances of F@H

It really doesn't matter hom clean a place is, dust will collect in the computer over time. I said it before in another thread, the few bucks you invest in a can of compressed air is invaluable vs the lifespan of your computer. Just make sure to do in in a dirty place/outside to begin with if it's really bad.

Hmm is it me or is 45°C a bit on the low end for an X2 folding 100% with stock cooling? (room temperature = 20°C) I wonder if the temp sensor is correct. Anyway I'll probably start up folding again when I get my front intake fans, a new heatsink and a replacement PSU (the one I got was borked so now I'm using a friend his PSU)

I don't know if it's right, but if it is, good for you.
And i'm glad to see that you want to keep folding.

                    Good news!

I posted this thread about X2 temps that might be helpful.

What games do you run and do you have the latest bios for the board.

If you rig is stable and temps are good Folding will not have anything to do with a crash.

This is about supporting Rage3D. You might even save a family member, close friend or yourself.
We can all make a difference one CPU at a time. It dosnt
HAVE to be on all the time, though that does help alot. Rage3D Folding@Home Forum

                        36 degrees C running 2 instances of FAH with a Zalman 9500 on an Opty 175 (2x 2.2GHz, 1M per core, 1.35V - equivalent of X2 4400+). That's what I get.
