Team Rage3D: Welcome & Quick Start Guide

Welcome to Rage3D's [email protected] team! [email protected] ([email protected]) is a program designed by Stanford that uses your otherwise wasted idle CPU cycles to help scientists understand the mysteries of protein folding. More information about this fascinating science can be found at the official [email protected] site, but luckily, you don't need to know anything to run the program and help humanity. By simply installing a program on your computer, you join Rage3D and thousands of others in the search to cure diseases like Alzheimer's and some types of cancer, all with virtually zero impact on your computer's performance. Besides that, it's also a lot of fun to compete against other teams and individually amongst the members of our team.

There really isn't any excuse for you not to fold, so let's get going!

    Team Rage3D - Team 64

The first step is to download the [email protected] client:
Believe it or not, that's it! You're now contributing to what could be one of the most valuable scientific projects in existence. After you complete your first work unit (usually after 100 frames), you'll be ready to start watching for yourself in the stats.

And remember to set up as many computers as you can (with permission of course). Tell all your friends; every little bit helps. You can put them all under your name and Team 64 and watch as your name shoots up the team rankings. I'll see you at the top, kid.

Last but certainly not least Check In and Introduce Yourself to the Team!

I'm so sane, it's driving me crazy.

    [email protected] PS3 FAQ
How do I get a copy of [email protected] for the PS3?

If you have PS3 system version 1.6 or later, you will see a [email protected] icon in the Network column of the XMB (PS3 menu). Just click on the icon and that's it. If you don't have 1.6 or later, please perform a system upgrade.

Can I change the donator name and team number?

Press triangle while in the visual client to change your username and team number.

What is the power consumption of the PS3 running the FAH client?

The original PS3 model will use about 200 Watts while running [email protected]. A later model PS3 (with a 40 GB hard drive) will use about 115 Watts.

Is it safe to run the PS3 24x7?

Yes. We have several PS3's running in our lab, running [email protected] 24/7 and have had good results so far. Sony developed the client to run on the PS3, and supports it completely.

How does the PS3 client's visualization compare to other FAH clients?

The PS3 client supports advanced visualization features. While the Cell microprocessor does most of the calculation processing of the simulation, the graphic chip of the PLAYSTATION 3 system (the RSX) displays the actual folding process in real-time using new technologies such as HDR and ISO surface rendering. It is possible to navigate the 3D space of the molecule using the interactive controller of the PS3, allowing us to look at the protein from different angles in real-time.
